There already is, but it isn't linked to CON scripting as of yet. Try messing with the r_pr_fov cvar (it's in build angle).

Perhaps I spoke too soon...?

Maybe it's a sign, that last night I had a dream of playing a demo of WGR2. It was just one level, a level with the purple sky we've seen in some WGR2 images/videos and lots of mountains. I remember being slightly disappointed: the boss was just a mini-Overlord and there was no story. (The latter fact was pointed to me by my mother who, for some reason, was watching me play as was DeeperThought.)

Your mother has a point there about the lack of story. The boss was obviously a trick, though: the real boss must have been removed from the beta as spoiler protection.

WGR2 will have at least a minimal story. A minimal story is one that establishes the setting and explains the action, but does little else, as opposed to a full story, which would have lots of NPC dialogue and a complex plot. Here is my current idea about the story, which is subject to change:

Duke has hijacked an experimental alien space shuttle as part of a secret mission for the EDF. While attempting to pilot it back into Earth's solar system, he is ambushed by a fleet of alien vessels. It is clear they intend to destroy the shuttle rather than allow it to fall into enemy hands. Thinking fast, Duke activates the experimental warp drive. Unfortunately, a massive power surge caused by damage to the shuttle overloads the warp core just as it is engaged, sending Duke to an alternative universe.

Duke arrives inside of a quasi-medieval styled temple, in a teleportation chamber designed by an old guy named Axon who is the chief advisor to the local king. The kingdom is in trouble, because the neighboring rival kingdom is run by an evil wizard who likes to make monsters and take over the world. This is a world where both magic and technology are possible, and can even work in combination. The evil wizard specializes in monster magic, and only uses tech when he can steal it, while Axon in the "good" kingdom is a technological wizard who dabbles in energy magic. Axon has made a set of weapons that can kill the monsters, but unfortunately there aren't enough copies of the weapons to equip more than a few people, and he has no factory to mass produce them. Worse, the weapons have been looted from the dead heroes who tried to use them and placed in locked chests which have been scattered around in various monster strongholds.

As a last ditch effort, Axon built a teleportation chamber for summoning a hero from another dimension, and he got Duke Nukem. Axon has also made portals which lead to various monster strongholds where weapons can be retrieved and monster chiefs can be eliminated. Duke agrees to help the kingdom because it is his only hope of surviving, let alone getting home (the teleportation chamber is busted). So Duke sets out to retrieve Axon's weapons, kill monsters and collect magical artifacts.

It's a start, anyway.

I lol'd at the concept "an evil wizard who likes to take over the world"

If nothing else, it's funny!

Technological Wizard... Sounds strange but interesting in it's own way. What do you plan to have the design like ? I could suggest the Tech Priest in Warhamer 40k Dawn of War. I also need to point out that you write better stories than I do xD

Nice. I really like that story, cheesy and short although it may be.

The story sounds good. I had no plans for any story, but that fits perfectly. I guess we can work at building something about it into the HUB.

That story is just a pointless (well, it has a point which is providing an excuse for the actual game part to exist but you know what I mean) throw-away backstory, I doubt the "Technological Wizard" is going to exist in the game

I don't know Warhammer 40k. When I wrote that I just meant he was a great inventor, but I suppose it could be something more mysterious and sort of magical, like the Sparks in Girl Genius. For the purposes of the game it doesn't matter much. I don't know if we would even have him in the game at all for the first release.

@Sang: It would be good to have a few NPCs in the game, even if they only appear in the hub and don't do much.

TechPriest

Scroll down to Cult Mechanicus, the first image you see below that title is a TechPriest. Sure you don't need the extra mechanical limbs  but other than that, could be suitable.

Yeah, "get in line" I'd say.

But it's a cool story, a perfectly working excuse for mindless killing.

Since WGR2 borrows so many elements from Doom, maybe a brief textual interlude between episodes (or maps if it fits) could provide the story so that the player wouldn't have to bother himself with the story while playing the maps? I always thought this worked perfectly in Doom 2.

Sorry. But waiting is one thing I'm bad at.

You don't have to post everytime you are impatient... Do you? (If so, go see a doctor or something... seriously)

No. I just don't like seeing this thread idle for too long.

That has absolutely no affect on the project's progress; stop being impatient.

He doesn't have proper incentives. To change this, WG could impose a penalty by delaying the project by, say, two weeks per each unnecessary post by KillerBudgie.

You must be a comedian! Waiting for it is bad enough. Having it being delayed is even worse!

I've been adding an NPC (the helpful tech wizard I mentioned earlier). So there's your update.

I know the art needs some fixing up (mainly the green pixels in the folds of his cloak on his chest).

I sure hope that obviously bad texture alignment on the bookcase is going to be fixed!

That shot is very underwhelming. Also, Budgie, you are retarded. Why would you QUOTE a post that is RIGHT above you and you're obviously directly replying to.

I guess people are used to seeing really polished looking shots in this thread. I was posting something very rough just to show what I was working on.

I reckon the wizard is gonna need more than have a few green pixels removed. He looks really out of place.

I would say it's from Daggerfall isn't it? The thing is, he doesn't look "techy" as it's name suggests... Just a typical mage.

From now on all of the screenshots posted will look like crap. We need to lower expectations so that people will be pleasantly surprised when WGR2 is released.
