btw
about comp we enter,
Trash data means the comp has unimportant information and it serve no useful purpose..
Most comp are useful tho.
Idea of the computer thing comes from the SNES game Shadowrun.
Is inspired by this great SNES classic.
When Jake enters the computer.
Door color is minda a metroid idea.
Blue door opens.
Yellow has some restrictions.
red is high security,
white (grey and or dark-grey) door only opens when bosses dies or an emergency or others,.
PS
V2 will have fixes and 2 extra levels, 2 levels will be alternate routes

Another thing is some "clipping errors". I've tried polymost, polymer and classic mode, but sometimes I can see through walls, floors etc. Too complex stuff?
Also, inside these big buildings with a lot of rooms, sometimes enemies are yelling even I don't see them. I guess they see me, through walls, ceiling/floor, or somehow. It's kinda strange.
Otherwise I like it. I don't normally play mods with new art and stuff, but I like this one. It's so strange and odd, that it's actually nice. And some interesting technical stuff to see.
Only thing I don't really like, is lack of quick kick. I guess it's supposed to be like that, since kick is actually somekind of scratching with hand? And you can't do that if you have weapon in your hand.
btw, musics rules. Did you compose those by yourself?
#244 Posted 23 September 2017 - 01:47 PM
Polymer it will cause some errors etc.
8bit mode it wont work. will have missing textures etc.
If you go near a window outside building, monsters will see you,
Sprite-made floor, mobs will detect you.
TROR holes or mask(grid, mesh etc) and windows /transparent floors, mob will see you through it.

weapon 0 is the claw.
Claw does more damage than 1st weap, can kill a normal liztroop in one blow.

Time to get started for real with my feedback with the first level ^^
Arctic National Wildlife Refuge :
------------------------------------------
For starters I always liked snow themed levels, or at least when they're nicely done and this one is definitely one of the bests. Great visuals, nice ambiance in the forest, nice sprites, all topped by a music that is surprisingly super fitting IMO. The fact we have 3 trails to follow right off the bat is kinda harsh but at least you get a sort of guidance since you are forbidden access to areas until you found things, it's especially nice to have a wolverine tell you to find the yellow card beforehand because I noticed that if we had been able to proceed without it we could have been stuck perpetually in the room where you use it. Once we get inside that sort of outpost we get back into known territory as far as Zaxtor's mapping is concerned, not going to go into the details but EVERYTHING shouts Zaxtor's name, detailing of rooms, progression, architecture ...... Always nice to find Supplies and Armory rooms even though you're given quite a lot of ammo for weapons you don't have yet ... When inside the building I'd say there's nothing much else to say apart from that. Once you reach the top it's nice to have the OC say he will blow up the shield generator because it would have potentially been elusive otherwise, especially for forgetful minds. Finding the Elevator Key is already a small introduction to the new special item system with objects that show up on the left side of your screen, and I like that elevator with its fancy glass, reflecting button panel. Then we're led back outside and if you didn't reach the exit beforehand then Hurray you will have a well optimized journey otherwise no big deal. So now you get the next keycard, and go to the last shield that had turned off, fall in the last cave and exit. I would say that the end of the level is kinda abrupt but since it's a starting level I guess it's best to keep it from dragging on for too long. In overall the map is a very good (re)introduction to Zaxtor's mapping style and to the game's mechanics, ambiance, graphics and everything.
Now there are side things I have to say. First the fact it takes place in a thick forest induces a small problem/nuisance and it's the fact that trees tend to get in the way, and as unluck would have it, they're the kind that blocks bullet but let projectiles go so basically lasers go through (enemy attacks) but not hitscans (your attacks), I guess you can have it work kinda to your advantage though since it blocks enemy movement and there are hitscan enemies as well ... However on my end the forest is so thick that the small drop of FPS is enough to impede me out of turning the nuisance to my advantage ... Also it's a good thing that the level gives you 2 crates of PipeBombs because only one might not be enough to find the secret exit and YES that's also a thing that I consider kinda harsh : hiding a secret level right in the first level, I consider that a bit harsh because I believe nobody would expect to have a secret exit in a starting level. Also a quick mention of the ice blocks with items in them ... It's a nice idea and nicely done, especially since you can see what item it contains before breaking it and there's absolutely no bad surprise while there could have been. However the only thing that I can complain about is the fact that using ammo to break them is kind of a waste even though Zaxtor is always SUPER GENEROUS on shotgun ammo and using the claw is good and fast but IF you happen to play with the weapon pick-up automatic switching enabled then using the claw on those becomes VERY tedious since you'll automatically switch to a weapon and want to switch back to the claw.
I would want to say more but I realize that the level isn't that long and so I can hardly say more without being redundant >_>
Conclusion : Great level, excellent way to start the game, excellent use of the snow theme, excellent music choice and excellent introduction to all of Zaxtor's specialties in mapping and level mechanics. Clearly once of my favorite levels of the game ! And compared to Oblivion's first level I'd say that this level by it's "kinda easy" difficulty makes for a start that clearly incites you to carry on, because knowing Oblivion a lot, I feared that some sort of bad influence would come in and make the first level kind of a selector as in it would sort things out between those to whom the mod is destined and those who will not like it and I will say that those who are not familiar to Zaxtor's mapping will have a happier time with this level and the next one than in Oblivion's first levels.

Secret to secret level is not too hard to spot.
it shows quite a bit.
Also another hint incase we miss it if we play the mod again etc.

Well to tell you the truth I found the first 2 secret levels by actually loading the maps themselves with usermap menu and see where it was, that's how I understood for the first one and got an idea for the second one ^^
Third one was by a mixture of accident and curiosity >_>

You collect stuff, activate the computer and you know open secret.

I know don't worry, for my ultimate playthrough (which I use for the feedback) I have reached it for the second time ^^
However for the third one the feedback (which I haven't done yet) will be based only on a "One Time playthrough" memory because that level is so insane there's no way I'm doing it again x_x

No the 3rd secret level, you know the one in a weird and all twisted up place ... with freaking mazes and a funny though mind-bending music ...
I managed to beat that level once, and I'm still feeling the pain for how insane it was x_x

I can't find any of the destructible things around (like the previous times you had to do it in this level). However, there is a door nearby that requires the yellow access card to enter, but I don't have it. I suppose that's where you have to go first to disable these tripmines? I only have the red key (which was blue btw, as someone else reported in this topic before). Were you supposed to have the yellow key before lowering the water and jumping through that vent?

The thing to disable the tripmines is actually at the very end of the corridor, on the other side of the gate of your picture, you just have to shoot it from there and use your Night Vision to confirm it's disabled.
You have to go there I believe there's a boss and you will obtain the Yellow card which will allow you to proceed.
The red keycard being blue I reported it and if you're wondering it's use is to allow access to a tower at the end of one of the ways outside, it's a secret.

Thanks a lot! I actually noticed the thing before but I couldn't hit it so I figured "that can't be it, nevermind". I managed to hit it now (it's so hard, I had to aim more to the left with a shotgun).
Now I can't write that number (at the math puzzle) (yes I know which one it is), how many tiles do I have to shoot to make that shape?

If I recall what Zaxtor told me you must use 10 buttons I believe ...

It's way more easy to find what to do when you activate a switch, thanks for listening players advice about how hard it was to navigate in Oblivion (it was the only mod i had to take note about every locked doors/switch.etc...)
I'm stuck at level 4 : I got an orb in the red key tower, and I suppose I must drop it in the math puzzle room, but I can't drop it on the red platform (if this is the solution). I tried to use (with open key) the red platform, the "here" sign without success...
Can somebody help me ?

My bad, it's episode 4 level 3. Stuck in math puzzle room with orb to put on red platform.
TheCultist : the 8 must be smaller and really looks like an 8.

Thanks, Jesus Christ finally made it, it has to look like this:
And about the orb you mentioned, it worked here just fine, just pick it up like other objects, place it on the black platform (not the red space, that's where it drops afterwards), and keep pushing open button to move it forward until it reaches the end (just like it shows on the wall, it will drop down in the red circle).
After the boss fight, its easy just follow the enemies (always go after them, the way they are shooting you from)
BTW Is the guy you see when your character says "I will return" a homage to G-man of the Half-Life series?
Zaxtor you are so creative, impressive work!

I was misled because I thought that the crystal ball of the red key tower was an important "quest" object. It's weird to put a simple item in a locked tower guarded by an overlord... Anyway thanks for answering d^.^b
The man when your character says "I will return" is really nicely done, superb image !

Also I didn't find the bridge maker addon, can I find it in this level (Control Base)?
Some bugs that I encountered:
Game tends to crash if you reload your save often during "inside CPU" sequences, sometimes it crashes if you die soon after you got out of the CPU/computer (when you're teleported back).
Kill count is broken sometimes. (it says you killed everyone when you clearly haven't)
Squish message repeats forever after an enemy killed himself using a door.
