If it was a good game developer, he'd try to make a good DLC for Duke Nukem 3D.

Says who? Nobody would even attempt it. They MIGHT just release the original game as it is just for cash grabs, that's about it.

Again, I'm no fan of Gearbox of late, but you've got to see both sides.
I agree, I said on this very thread that Gearbox having Duke touring other games is a good idea and can slowly rebuild his image until the demand for his own full game is big enough.
Gearbox taking a big risk and making a AAA Duke game with his current status would very likely cause massive losses for them and they did just suffer with Battleborn so I don't see them taking any big risks with Duke until the demand is high enough.
I'm perfectly fine with Duke touring other games, but Gearbox has to fire whoever the hell is pricing these games.

True. The problem with your argument is that Gearbox is pricing a lot of their audience out of the market. If they really want Duke to be popular again, they need to let people buy his games at reasonable prices.

Well so far they're doing a shit job. Forcing Duke in to games in the cheapest easiest laziest way they possibly could by recycling an old character model and having Jon sit in a recording booth apparently after a night of heavy drinking and some sort of loathing of his work with Gearbox resulting in terrible sounding lines. Gearbox could have created a short expansion for Bulletstorm. Something like an hour or two long DLC where Duke crosses path with the Bulletstorm crew. Make a real effort. But not with Gearbox or Pitchford.

I think with the success of games like Broforce and Blood Dragon (which HiPolyBash mentioned), and movies like the Expendables, it shows that there is still a market for this kind of thing today.

Personally, I think a creative writer can fit Duke Nukem into almost anything, even contemporary themes and settings.

An 80's-90's action hero in the New 10's? Could make a fun concept to build from.

The top is your standard CGA, and the bottom is the font from the later Infocom text adventures. Which I've hand-converted to TTF so I could use it on modern interpreters.

Looks like you're going for a Duke2-style game. Do you already have a game engine?

But truth be told I only went with Duke2 sprites initially out of semi-randomness. And those first two sprites weren't even serious.

Might I recommend Love2D?
If you're uncomfortable with programming in Lua though, it may not be for you. Either way though, I've never found a better 2D game engine, Love2D pretty much has it all.

Hands down the best 2D game framework is LibGDX, I highly recommend it.

Well, I did start a ReDuke II project, but that never had any actual gameplay implemented. Only the intro animations and menu scripts work properly. You'd have to write your own code for all the gameplay stuff, so you might as well use LÖVE.
(If you're curious, this video shows an early build of ReDuke II. It says ReDuke II in the DOS screen at the very end.)

Edit: disregard that, the current state of platform game engines sucks balls.

I thinks its cool their doing something with Duke. I find it weird to see him in cutscenes with full on animation. It must be that 90s vibe. I can think of only four cutscenes/short films with Duke: The Developer loading scene in the finished DNF roulette table, the "Gone Forever" trailer", Triptych 2007 Christmas teaser, and the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences short film where Claptrap annoys the hell out of Duke and gets blown. But this crossover will be really interesting.

Actually, Duke's Hair looked like that because they promptly picked him up from is cardboard box where he's been sleeping for the last few years after DNF ruined and left him on the streets.
They didn't manage to clean his crusty hair in time for the shooting of that scene so they just went with it hoping nobody will notice.
He also wears the sun glasses now, so that we don't notice his red swollen eyes and his dark circles.

If 2K were to pull back support, Gearbox Publishing would surely be a short-lived venture.
