Completely different problems. 3DR's standards were too high, Gearbox's are way, way too low

Don't forget what happened to 3D Realms. They rode the trail of MANY successes, and they still ran outta track.

The Borderlands games were reported to have sold 23 million copies overall last year - I don't think Gearbox is in trouble just yet.

Yeah, 80s stuff like 80s songs and Hotline Miami are some sort of hipster things these days. Who knows?

Personally, I think a creative writer can fit Duke Nukem into almost anything, even contemporary themes and settings.

I wouldn't mind someone being creative enough to work with the new DOOM concept and twist it to fit Duke Nukem's style. I wouldn't mind ripping a pigcops head in half by the tusks with a glory kill system.

I think Gearbox is far from trouble, I mean they had to have made millions on Band of Brothers alone, not to mention it got a mini TV series, and besides only like three games flopped since their existance, those being DNF, A:CM, & BB. So I think their doing just fine.

Eh?
Also DNF wasn't a commercial flop for Gearbox; they made back everything they put into it and more.

Not long ago I was composing a rough proof-of-concept for what the opening to a new Duke game would be like. Rehashing ideas I've held onto for awhile. The game would start on black, a news broadcast would be playing about Duke, saying he's become a has-been/joke/laughing stock, with some crap about Duke Burger's being shutdown due to health concerns, and the flop of a recent game/film that he was involved in. Then you hear the BEEEEEE of the Emergency Broadcast System. The game begins as Duke sits up on his stale couch in his run down apartment in downtown Los Angeles. The TV showing color bars as another voice begins to speak about an Alien Invasion in progress. At which point Duke would pull out his shades, flick them open, and put them on. A sleek and sexy HUD would appear and Duke would have something clever to say. "Time for this old school ass kicker to get back in the game!" At which point an Alien would come exploding through the window of your apartment, and all Hell would break loose. The first level would have Duke making his way out of the apartment in a similar fashion to the Doom opening level that get's the player ready for the game.

I would add a little to that; have Duke be a balding overweight mess of a person with a patchy beard growing in and grease stains all over his clothes sitting in a dirty apartment with a disgusting crumb riddled recliner.
When the news of the alien invasion is happening, he stands up, looks in a cracked mirror, and right when the sunglasses get put on, you can see he is instantly in great shape, clean shaven, clean clothes, ready to kickass, almost like when there is a need to kick alien ass Duke transforms like a superhero. Oh and the mirror would also be fixed and the dingy apartment turned into a giant luxorious penthouse.

Dukes a homeless drug addict tripping hard and attacking random passerbys. The realistic Duke Nukem story.

Eh, tone it down a bit but keep the "glasses on, suddenly kickass" aspect. Like maybe his buzzcut's grown out a bit and the muscle tone's gone, but not outright dirty, dilapidated loser.

Because a proper buzzcut is one of the things that distinguishes Duke from Douche, of course.

Or perhaps instead of magic kickass sunglasses, make reference to that one scene from the new SW where Lo Wang shaves himself bald -- Duke's still physically fit, though maybe not quite as fit as before, but his buzzcut's grown out so he gives himself a new one. And then the glasses go on, to mirror Doomguy putting on his helmet.

Cue the Grabbag.

I got excited just by reading that

What was Duke talking about in the end of the trailer? "...We're right back where we started." I never played Battleborn.

The Dialog is switched from the scene in the base game, though the censoring in the Duke version doesn't make it easy to understand what he's saying.
Grayson just asks how to make it go faster.

Gearbox games are so consistent in quality that it's hard to tell them apart some times.

Bulletstorm technically isn't a Gearbox game.

Hello guys,I was just wondering: can I play as duke as the main character throughout the whole game?

#289

Yes, you can play as Duke throughout the whole game if you pre-order Full Clip Edition of Bulletstorm.

True, but the additional work being done to it is consistent with the level of quality and the sort of price tag we've come to expect.

Ugh. I will pass on this then. I hate preordering games. I liked the original bulletstorm though.

Well its free when you pre-order it, however it make become available later on, you'll have to pay for it. I'm hoping for a DVD release with the Duke DLC.

I only see the physical copy Pre-order at GameStop. Is this like World Tour where only GameStop has it in physical copy?

Oops... missed it at Amazon... and everywhere else. Searching correctly is half the battle. I will bleach my hair so I can use the Blonde Excuse on this one.

Ok, I keep defending World Tour, but this looks meh. Jon st. John sounds... bad. Even for me, though it's still only a couple of lines. The price is too much, considering no free copies for anyone (unlike Skyrim SE, where the $40 price tag is justified, since most of the potential clients would get it for free anyway). But I'll still preorder it anyway, since I'd buy a Duke dildo, shove it up my ass and like it.

This idea worked really well for the SS3 mod. Its much more entertaining and had more general 'Dukeness' to it then DNF did.

Unfortunately, I have little faith that GBX has either the talent, care or sense of humour to pull this off.

As awkward as it may sound, but the dream team to develop the next Duke game would be a combination of Flying Wild Hog and the guys that did Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon: Ubisoft Montreal,

I liked the art and style of Blood Dragon but thought the characters and dialogue were off-putting; plus, I know some folks here don't like the Flying Wild Hog style of arena-based level design.

Blood Dragon is one of the best FPS'es since the golden age of the 90s.
