He does it on purpose to get a rise out of people. Why would you let him get a rise out of you?

I'm not sure if we all have the same page view settings, but it's a new page now page 9, and you're right MI, it is silly that we've given this as much attention as we have.

We're all here with a common bond, we all bet on Duke damn it. We're pretty cool, we get it, let's not squabble over the little things we disagree on, let us all chew gum, and kick ass, and be all out of gum so to speak

Soo what do you think, will there be more than World Tour/re-release announced on friday? Doesn't it seem a bit excessive for just that?
I mean, not even Interceptor would do a countdown for a pre-order of a re-release.

On one hand I agree, but knowing how long these FPS games take to make I don't see a new Duke game being ready for a couple years. But it's possible they could get the ball rolling with a trailer, but it feels like games try to save that for 1 year out these days. Maybe they have something else up their sleeve though, would be cool.

I'm going to lower my expectations and just say no.

Kojima revealed his new game before he decided on an engine so it's possible they may reveal Duke 5.

Then again on one hand Randy revealed Duke had already gone through the concept stage back in July 2015 and who knows how much work was done on the game between then and now.
On the other hand Randy also said they'd like an external dev to help out so they may have done far less work than we think.

It may not even be Duke 5 but maybe a spin off that Gearbox licensed out to another dev, we won't know until World Tour is revealed and Randy once again blabs on about how he didn't just buy the IP for DNF.
We most definitely will get some new assurance on Duke's future from Gearbox.

Yeah, you're probably right. Although it doesn't necessarily take five years to make a game, even a good one, it depends on a lot of factors.
I noticed though that the ESRB thingy on dukenukem.com perfectly matches up with Duke 3D rather than DNF, so that's a strong hint that's all we get for now.
It's been over a year since they stated they were looking for a team to do a new game with, though. And that was after they'd already done quite a bit of planning/pre-production/research/whatever, so if they had a path set down things could have gone more quickly.

Well, can't blame you for that. I guess I get less "emotionally involved" in these things than some of ya. :D

Probably not: but If Gearbox/Randy are good at anything its advertisement, so there's at least that you can count on, and hopefully it adds a healthy boost to the Duke3d community.

The main reason I have faith in this product, is how well Gearbox have treated the Homeworld franchise since picking it up.
Well, at least as a non-Homeworld fan, I get that impression.

That's a good point. Gearbox did a great job with both the re-release of the original Homeworld games and Blackbird's new prequel. I would be more than happy if that's the approach they take with Duke in the future.

The Homeworld 1 and 2 remastered and the prequel (Deserts of Kharak) were great, just regret there were no French Dubbing like in the original...

Do you think these "World Tour" screenshots may be a montage to make teasing for Duke 5 ?

Gearbox did the PC port of Halo and also released Custom Edition to go with it which was designed for multiplayer modding and mapping using the Halo Editing Kit. I think Bungie was the one who maintained it after that though. They released a patch for the game, 1.10, only a couple years ago that removed the defunct GameSpy and made some changes so the game would work better with modern systems, such as a larger number of screen resolutions it supports, fixed the alpha fade as well as some other things which isn't something done much with games, supporting them over a decade after their release.

Halo's PC port was lackluster.

Halo was never going to be a great game on PC, it was so heavily designed around being a console/controller game.

Well, that's a huge flaw then. I didn't remember it didn't have co-op.

Edit: The PC port I meant. I know the Xbox version had co-op, and that was a significant part of its appeal.

The xbox version did have coop so did halo 2 but not there pc parts, I think there is a mod for coop for pc but I'm really not sure .

Duke3D also had splitscreen coop on 64 but not on PC
I wish more PC games supported split screen. Serious Sam is always the first one to come to mind.

Just under 2 days to go now, everyone.
I'm actually kind of excited for some reason.
It's been so long since anything new and official for Duke.

If it doesn't have everything that Megaton has now at launch, it will be disappointing. That's Addons, Multiplayer, Steam Workshop, Widescreen Sprites, Gamepad Support etc.

I don't understand why all the attempts at hype building and marketing for yet another Duke3D re-release...even if it has a new episode with the old level designers which would be awesome it doesn't really justify the countdown, the pre-order tab, etc.. the game has been rereleased dozens of times before, given away for free, 'remastered', and every other spin of a reissue.

If they were to come out with a collection of all the Duke games and the console spin-offs in a box that might be worth it, or a new title all together which is what people are probably expecting then yeah...who knows, maybe they'll tease a new Duke game at their PAX panel. That's what I'm hoping for but I get the feeling I'll be let down yet again by Gearbox..

What if Randy was the level designer? He was listed as doing map work on The Birth after all...

I've even had friendly interactions with Jimmy a while ago (he recommended some maps etc). I think some people just type stuff at a screen and don't remember that they're interacting with other people.

I'm a friendly enough guy. Doesn't mean I won't be a dick every once in a while. Nothing personal. Which brings me to my next point.

I just got back from driving my mom today, who is a cancer survivor and can't drive anymore. You have serious problems. You know whats weird, just like a week ago I was playing Overwatch with somebody who literally said "I hope your mom gets cancer", based on some silly video game concern of theirs I can't remember. I honestly don't know what's wrong wtih people.

We're just not looking at it the same way, gonna have to agree to disagree. It's not like I'm unfamiliar with people saying wildly offensive stuff as a gag. If you're trying to be offensively funny, you can do better. If you want to discuss something, you can do it better. Telling people to get cancer for preferring one video game over another? That's not good, period. Upvoting that in my opinion, is bad. It's not on point, even if you do prefer that video game strongly. We're people having a friendly community about something we like.

Hanging out with your friends, would you just blurt out I hope you get cancer etc for an opinion? And even so, with a friend, surely you'd do it in a humorous way even if you attempted something that ridiculous. He didn't include some smily or something and there was nothing friendly in the tone, he was just conveying his opinion in an immature way as another post put it. In other words, he's behaving poorly and being a jerk. Ideally, people are nice to eachother and express ideas in a way that makes for an enjoyable stay on this forum (like most posters do).

I mostly agree with your points. People need to keep in mind though that when you use an expression like that, it's easy to think of cancer as "some random thing that some people get", but your personal attitude may change dramatically if someone in your close family were to die or otherwise have an extreme decrease in quality of life as a result of cancer.

Obviously no action should be taken, it's a forum on the Internet, we have free speech, and he was just using hyperbole. I just think we need to appreciate where PsychoGoatee is coming from and that telling people to not be affected by recent possible traumatic events like flicking a switch doesn't work.

I suppose we're all just used to it from all the excessive political correctness going on :D

My mother died from cancer five years ago this coming September 14th. I remember it like yesterday. I was holding her hand and had just kissed her on the head and told her it was okay to just let go and pass on. I nursed her personally for the six months before she died because nobody in my family had the time or cared to spend it on her. I barely graduated from high school. I didn't spend time with friends or meet girls. I didn't go to college. I spent six months taking care of a very sick woman and sleeping on a tiny couch in a hospital. Your virtue signalling means nothing to me. It's a phrase. Get over it. I wish you the best of luck with your mother, I really do. Been there, man.

Also my mom survived tit cancer and I make cancer jokes around her. She also can't drive anymore because of extreme vision loss.

Stop being a faggot. GOMAD, sell your Nickelback CD's for Static-X LP's and eat some fucking pussy right before you drive your new V8 powered Black Lives Matter™ crusher through a crowd of angry liberals on your way to the polling place so you can usher in our new golden haired God Emperor.

It's time to man up, shitbird, and if there's one thing men don't do, it's get angry at pixels.
