Ion Fury  "formerly Ion Maiden, launching August 15!"

I think someone from NightDive said that GOG now let devs push beta builds directly on their platform, the catch being that the user has to use GOG Galaxy to download.

That's a pretty scummy move for GOG if so. I'm not liking the trend of GOG pushing Galaxy so much. People shouldn't have to use it if they don't want to. I like it and I love it's features (I've been using the new Galaxy beta and it's great keeping track of my entire library in one place), but people need the choice. Especially for GOG given how it started and what it stands (stood?) for.

Also about the youtubers; LGR is in general just an optimistic nerd and he never claims to be anything else. He's a lovable dork.

He was also a regular and well liked member of "this" community (including the old 3DR boards) for many years. Rather understandably he doesn't post anymore.

Also his review of Fresh Supply review where he calls out GGGManLives won me over completely. I have a feeling GGGMan is going to be a contrarian when it comes to Ion Fury.

I'm convinced that GGGMan takes money.

He got paid by EA to make an Anthem review video, accidentally put the wrong EA watermark at the intro, EA made him delete it so he could reupload it with a fix, and instead he played the victim and acted like it was just because he was negative in the video. Then when EA challenged him he backed down and AFAIK never mentioned it since.

Dude has gone downhill.

I'm wondering if it's going to be released at midnight?

Out of curiosity, will Ion Fury be getting its own sub-forum here?

Will definitely check out his review (and other reviews) after I've completed the game, as I'm going in fresh to just play the game and be surprised with what it has to offer. Not much longer now!

Also, he did mention FPS problems (with minor issue still being a thing), watch from 17:35.

My summary of that review: "Ion Fury does what it sets out to do, has fun combat and weapons, but halfway through playing it I decided that I don't actually like retro shooters and I'm going to pretend like that's the game's fault."

I thought Zazz Zzyzx was being hyperbolic, but wow that rockpapershotgun review is laughable. Why have someone review it that clearly has no interest in that genre?

Its like that one IGN review from long ago about a soccer management game where the reviewer complained about the game and how you never get to play soccer and instead just manage teams... which was the entire point of the game.

Yeah, that's the problem with traditional gayme gernalizm really: games are not movies, it's a highly interactive medium and because of that reason they depend on the player a lot = it's just naturally more subjective so if there's a niche game the reviewer should be someone representing that niche.

holy fuck the culturevulture review almost reads like a fucking parody

Quote

Ion Fury’s biggest flaw is perhaps that it sticks a little too close to the old games it is trying to pay homage to. After all, a lot of game design innovations have come and gone since then. Take the storytelling, for example: nowadays, we often get radio chatter, logs to read, cutscenes to watch and environmental dialogue. This is virtually nonexistent in Ion Fury. Aside from the occasional quip from your character and some video messages from the main bad guy, there is no real story to explore at all.

looooooollllllllll

its ironic that the reviewer compares IF to Half-life when HL itself had none of those things in it.

He complains about directions not being signposted and how all the voice acting is highly annoying. Didn't once mention the map or the fact that you can turn character dialogue off. :dukecigar:

You think these guys can read a map? There is a reason why even Doom 2016 had objective markers. :dukecigar:

There's only one way to handle it: Play the game, make up your own mind. Screw all the reviews.

If reviewers don't like it it stands a chance at being a good game :dukecigar:
Unless you've slept with them, oh wait, we are way past the gamer gate into epstein-barr disease territory.
