They are game specific effects programmed in the scripting, not part of the EDuke32 source. And yes they will be (and are) documented.

Effect documentation already exists in mapster32, you get a popup that tells you what each parameter does.
It's not a tutorial but more like a cheat sheet on all the functions / flags.
I rarely need anything else these.

Proper tutorials are a thing on their own. That's something I want to assist with / work on when the game is done.

I must be missing something. I downloaded the latest revision. I loaded up Mapster and E1L1 and I don't see anything new. Is there a script I have to run for these new features? Or some new keypress to bring up the options?

I assume he's talking specifically about Ion Maiden.

Still, don't some of the function keys bring up lists of the various sector tags and so on?

Yeah. F7 and F8 when hovering over a sector or sprite. But thats not new.

I don't own IM yet so I don't know if he meant in IM only.

Duke Nukem 1 and 2 style side scroller Ion Maiden/Bombshell companion game coming when?

Right after the one that runs on the Alien Rampage engine, hopefully.

As a matter of fact, I'd seriously love that. Use the same technique to create pre-rendered sprites and stuff for the side scroller (as in the DNF side-scroller prototype) as for the Ion Maiden sprites. 3D Realms still owns that engine, right?

IM doesn't come with mapster (yet).
You can extract the maiden grp file, drop a mapster from the latest snapshot in with it, & look at the maps in 2d mode, but that's about it.

The way I interpreted Oasiz is that the new features are in Mapster now. I just don't see where or how to activate the pop up he mentioned.

No, there are all .m32 scripts that get loaded on boot.

Then what do I need to do to view a "new" pop up?

Those effects only work on Ion Maiden as they are part of the CONS that come with the game, not vanilla Duke.

MB: ... And yes they will be (and are) documented.

Oasiz: Effect documentation already exists in mapster32, you get a popup that tells you what each parameter does.

That lead me to think that Mapster32 already contained what was needed to map in the new features. But evidently it will also require external code. No biggie. Just a miscommunication. I was anxious to see the new features for myself.

I read it as it's already in the scripts in the samples folder that come with a snapshot, just that they won't work, except with IM

It's a custom 295KB file plus another 12KB file, two .m32 scripts
First one is pretty much completely IM specific and the second one is more general purpose but still tied to IM a bit.

Second one could be modified for general use though.
These have nothing to do with anything that comes with m32 by default, I've actually never used those so I wouldn't know :D

Only thing that gets dropped to our dev folders is a slightly modified game .exe and mostly stock (if not 100%?) mapster .exe. Rest are all our own stuff that we keep adding stuff to.

Sorry for the confusion.

If I knew the tiniest bit of coding I would've made an all purpose script useful for everyone but I can't code for shit

Spoiler

Can't believe it's almost 2019 already. Given my luck is generally poor, I'm wagering that I won't be in on the day my Ion Maiden box shows up... Unless it gets delayed for another decade.

So the team hired George?
Interesting.
He works for poker chips and cheeseburgers, so that helps with the bottom line

I was pretty anal about music quite early on for this game, tracker music was like #1 on my wishlist.

I'm glad Roz got interested on this game. Metal / distorted guitar was like the last thing I wanted. It's nice in smaller doses but it's way too overused. Modern electronic stuff is kind of a thing as well where they try to mimic analog synth sounds but even that seems to be more about getting a fat and echo'y sawtooth with the unnecesary tape-like distortion or just use otherwise tinny electronic sounds, ignoring the jazz / funk / disco that made the old stuff shine.

Very happy with what Roz has produced so far, Quite DnB and energetic at times.. Amen break 4ever
There are some really nice tunes that are ready and more are brewing :D
