Dude its a fucking video game with zombie robot alien spiders.

I know, but like I just said: "Every game is a little different with regard to which things it makes realistic and which things it doesn't. Ion Maiden is a bit more realistic than Duke when it comes to weapon handling." If you read my words you can tell I was actually thinking about how the game does some things realistically and others not.

There's no doubt that quick kick is useful in Duke 3D, but that doesn't mean it belongs in Ion Maiden. Every game is a little different with regard to which things it makes realistic and which things it doesn't. Ion Maiden is a bit more realistic than Duke when it comes to weapon handling. If you think about it, the idea that it would useful to do a front push kick on someone while simultaneously shooting them at point blank range is pretty silly. Either the kick or the shot would be compromised --probably both-- and the amount of damage from the kick would be trivial in comparison to the shot and not worth it. If you look at her one melee attack in Ion Maiden, it is a _powered_ baton type weapon. This signals that they are going for realistic amounts of damage. Presumably, a non-powered melee such as a kick would be relatively ineffective.

Not really. If you play the Bombardier Trial, you need to use a bomb to smash a grate.
If your level contains objects like, grates, bottles and so on, there should be a kick or a heavy fist around.

Bingo. It isn't needed in games like Doom or even Powerslave, but in games like Shadow Warrior or Blood it does feel like a missing feature.

Fair enough, but it would be reasonable to prohibit the player from using quick melee while simultaneously firing a gun.

My guess is they are lacking the sprites for it right now.

it's also tedious to manually switch to baton & back when smashing trash cans,

Quick jab
held weapon drops off screen, (non-energized) baton stabs out

Does anyone else feel that the baton has an irritating delay after the animation of the first 3 swings? This has gotten me killed a few times. (I had to use the baton because I ran out of bullets, plz give bullets to the people)

You ran out of bullets? I was swimming in ammo. In fact, after finishing off the level and looking for secrets there were still tons of drops all around.

Unless you were playing on hard or something.

Play style may vary.
For example:
If you stay on the beaten path & don't explore, you'll end up dropping out of the ventilation shaft and leaving the garage section with the loverboy, a bit of ammo, & maybe a couple rolling-bombs.
You'll completely miss the other two weapons & a fair amount of ammo.
Just having a second projectile weapon alone makes a huge difference,

Yeah I ended the game with a good amount of ammo for every weapon and 9 health packs. Although I had a complete 100% run through of the game.

One low-res screenshot is not enough for me to pass any judgment.

Kinda agree with the first one, maybe I would correct that texturing, but now I do not have such ability. Such dark blue is a day-time for you? For me it looks like evening.

There are no frames of detailing, believe me, I could put a lot more Posted Image

Are you the 4th mapper (Vitaliy Bondarenko) by any chance?

I thought you were going to say it was inspired by Rush, another map by Gambini:

It's a good map. It's actually named "Rush Back": http://dnr.duke4.net...Back_V2.01.html

I tried the preview campaign on a Q6600 HD6870 and it played as expected like other comperable eDuke mods and games, quite good for an old PC. A not so shiny new 4770K with GTX 680 it ran excellent the whole game. If it plays a little better on the older PCs after optimizations that would be great. I'd rather you spent time on other things though,

I'd like a whirlwind mega chick high kick as a quick kick secondary attack as a side, does the cook know how to mix it up? Good! Does he have the time? :)

3D Realms released a cool feature detailing the visual history of Shelly "Bombshell" Harrison. Here's a few examples, but there's loads more at the link that's well worth checking out! :)

I like the last one. The other designs are the typical "babe with guns", which Duke would have liked a lot, but let's be a bit serious. :)

The 1997s-2001s designs are the best imho.

Anyone else think the weapon sounds are lackluster, they have no oomph, it's more fart than a kick in the face.

But maybe i just played too much Brutal Doom? Shells dropping are almost louder than the fire sound itself!

The last one is appropriate for a game in 2018. That's all I'm going to say about it.

The 1997 is my favorite, minus the fishnet stockings. It's functional and she's covered up, so it doesn't have the ridiculous amount of bare skin or useless bits only there to look sexy (again, minus the fishnet stockings). Yet, it's still sexy, which is good for a video game protagonist in this genre of game. At the very least the protagonist should be visually appealing in some way. Also, since she has no armor at all, it also avoids the stupid cliche of sexy chick with random armor covering only certain parts while leaving others exposed -- to be fair, none of the pics exhibit that cliche.

I like the 97 one and the latter 01 one. That latter one is really how I always imagined the character for that build, that or something similar to the Resaurous concept art for the action figure.

Looking at the 1999-2001 version, it appears she has a robotic arm, like in Bombshell? So this was conceived of a long time ago? I thought the robotic arm was a relatively recent idea.

I love this detail about the standalone Bombshell game 3DR were working on in the late 1990s:

Quote

"We had a small internal team, lead by engine coder, Billy Zelsnack and his brother, Jason, who were working on a fully 3D game in 1997, starring a female hero. It was going to be a war game, and your female character was a bit of a female Rambo. The two Zelsnack's had the idea of calling the game Bitch, and I put thought into coming up with a better name."

I like the last design, but the 2016 one from the Bombshell game is my favorite.
