Technically it should be doable. The AMC TC has a mech that has its own health gauge that slowly regenerates. You can also set its initial health to whatever level you wish.


There's no technical difficulty with doing it that way, but if the car has its own health, doesn't that mean that the car can be destroyed or become unusable while the player lives on? (say, if you eject as the last missile is coming in). But then the player could get into situations in existing maps where the map cannot be completed. I suppose that could be prevented with a few tweaks.

Any chance you might make the snack machines work? It doesn't make much sense that you can get a Coke (or Pepsi) but not Doritos.

Hey DT,

I played an HL2 mod called SMOD Redux 8.

There is a gamemode which make enemies drop coins you can get to buy health and armor at the Health/HEV Stations.

You should add the same system but for the vending machines instead.

Let me explain : you kill an enemy, it drops one coin. You use the coins you collected on a vending machine that give you a 5hp Duke Cola (for the soda machines) or a 10hp snack (for the snack machines).

But to make this work, there should be an entity placed at the start of maps that tells to the game "there are vending machines, make enemies drop coins on death".

The idea is not bad but I don't think it's worth the effort. Destroying the soda machine gives you many cans already.
DT, how about adding occasional burps after drinking?

It's too much effort for something the player won't use much. Besides, the coins would be hard to see unless I made them big and silly, but then they would be out of place in a lot of maps.

Okay, so, um, I got a problem: there's all these lovely reference to using alt-fire, I checked the manual, more reference to using alt-fire, but then I went to see if I could set the key for alt-fire, but nothing. Nowhere in the DukePlus menu did I see it anywhere, and the standard Duke keyboard and mouse menus there's no alt-fire option, so what gives?

That's right, and the "RELOAD ALTFIRE" function is also available in mouse setup. If you think it's not there, then keep looking. It's there.

DukePlus wont work O.o

I extracted the thing in DukePlus folder and everything right without disturbing or altering folders.

EDUKE.CON:1: error: could not find file `DukePlus/dpcons/DUKEPLUS.CON'.
Found 0 warning(s), 1 error(s).

I think Eduke needs glasses cus the dpcons is there with all the requirement.
I even updated to latest Eduke and still no working.

I even put a duke.grp in it.
No change

make clean folder, for the case named ¨dukenukem¨
extract dukeplus.zip in dukenukem folder
drop a copy of duke3d.grp in dukenukem folder
click on dukeplus.bat
click again on dukeplus.bat
(these two last operations have to be done quickly)

Where you got it from?

1- Go to this site: http://deeperthought.dukertcm.com/dp/
2- Click on the ¨download¨ button.
3- Choose ¨save file¨
4- Repeat this process:

Found the bat.
For some weird reason when I extracted the game by taking extract all the bat.file failed to extract.

But the error is still present and same as entering .exe file

Make sure your folder looks like the pic Gambini posted EXCEPT copy DUKE3D.GRP into the folder (Gambini just extracted the DukePlus.rar into the folder without adding DUKE3D.GRP). Then if it doesn't work, post your eduke32.log in an attachment and someone will try to explain what you did wrong. If you can't clear up the problem in a few posts then let's move this discussion to private messages, because I know sometimes your problems can go on for pages and I don't want that to happen in this thread.

Ok, so we advanced a little bit finding the bat file.

Now it´s time to do all the work again. Most likely some other file ¨failed to extract¨, so scrap this install and start again from scratch.

Delete the folder that is causing trouble, all the duke folder, delete it. If you´re using Windows, i assume you do, click on the folder where all these files are placed and hit the ¨delete¨ key (it may have another name if your keyboard is not english. Confirm the deletion (clicking on ¨yes¨) and do all this progress again:

Read carefully and do it step by step. okay?

1- Create a folder, where you feel like -right click > new folder-

2- Name it whatever you want to, in this case we´re going to name it ¨duke3d¨

3- Extract ALL files (keeping subfolders) inside this folder ¨duke3d¨
You can do it quite easy if you first put the dukeplus.rar file there and then do right click on it and select ¨extract here¨.

4- Put a copy of duke3d.grp (be sure it´s from the original game and not a mod) in this folder named ¨duke3d¨
Dont put it in duke3d/dukeplus goddamnit, put it IN ¨duke3d¨

5- Launch the mod double clicking on dukeplus.bat or double clicking on eduke32.exe and selecting ¨dukeplus¨ as gamedir.

It´s easy, don´t overlook any of these steps, do it slowly and carefully. It does work for all of us, ALL.

You can show us what you have in the folder by typing in command prompt (inside the folder):
dir *.* /s >list.txt


the list.txt that will be created will show us all the files/folders you have inside the DukePlus folder.

I reinstalled from scratch and had tons of error until I put Duke.grp it works.

Why would you bother to run it without duke3d.grp, when you were explicitly told it was required for the mod to work?

Hm, this is weird. Akimbo pistols are on, but I don't get any akimbo pistols anymore. Last time I played Duke Plus I did get akimbo pistols, since then, the only thing I've done is replace eduke with the newest eduke r1633, and now play with polymer on.

And shouldn't I be able to switch between pistol/laster pistol/akimbos with multiple pushes of '2', just like with shrinker/expander? '2' only gives me a normal pistol, nothing else.

You are right, with r1633, picking up the second pistol no longer gives the player akimbo pistols. It works fine with 1612 (the version packed with DP).
Now the only way to get akimbo pistols is by using a cheat (type "give all" in the console).

Also, after playing around for one minute the game acted like I was holding down the alt-fire key: pipebombs switched back and forth between timer and trigger, and the mp5 would reload every time I fired a bullet. The framerate was not low while any of this was happening.

Unfortunately, I don't have time to investigate these breakages at the moment. I'll just have to stick with 1612 for now :P

Problem for me is 1612 doesn't work for me. r1633 was the first release where polymer doesn't cause the game to exit to the desktop the moment the level is supposed to start.

try r1623 or r1624

their only difference is that r1624 has the camera fix for gcc 4.4.x and 4.5.x compilers.
