Duke3D HRP: new/updated art assets thread  "Post and discuss new or updated textures/models for the HRP here"

Well, the left one (from Lightsource) reminds me of the old HRP v3 loading screen we had, dunno who made that. It was already quite true to the original, so I think this one might be worth using.

Once I get to a real internet collection, I'll upload my collection of old #3281 versions (going back to 2005), as well as my database of useful stuff including all ANM frames extracted, which should be useful now that VP8 support is in.

When did that happen?

Hmmm loos like 19 h 30 min ago. I want to see it on my own eyes :(

Huh, truthfully, the right one is one I fancy more. Something about how the explosion lighting is affecting the logo on the left just doesn't sit well with me, as well as how the logo looks overall.

out of the two there is no comparison; lightsouce's.

its truer to the original yet has so much more detail.

There has been way more than that over the years.

yeah, in fact I currently use a much older one, not very classic looking but I love it... I guess, again, its all down to personal taste.

Well, I committed the new #3281 by Lightsource, if anyone wants to keep the old one, save it from previous HRP and use it instead. I have also updated the Update Pack (now at 55.9 MB file size).

Someone should make a thread with a collection of all the loading screen nuke-symbol explosion remakes everyone's ever made. There must be tons of them lol.

Done! http://hendricks266....281_collection/

Here is the comparison. They both look good but the new one is more like the original.

Yes, Lightsource's version is more like the original. It also has more and better details. So if we are done taking a trip down memory lane and looking at all the old attempts, can we adopt Lightsource's new one?

seems I've been beaten to it! anyway; loading...

Well, like I said, I have added Lightsource's loading screen in SVN build 275. :( Many people put efforts into doing menu stuff lately, which is remarkable. Some contributions are even decent wallpapers. ^^

yeah, of all I've seen, i'd say lightsources is the best for hrp; its true to the orginal but epicly detailed. not sure why I love the one I'm using so much but It makes a better wallpaper than loading screen, its just too different from the original...

Noone remade this texture yet so I thought I will give it a shot. There is another texture similar to this one but with broken version, I will see what I can do about it.

That is good. You need to spice up the labels a bit with some colours and a few different typefaces.

I remember that one. I must have missed it, or I overwrote my only copy with an update pack. Added.

Was that ever in the HRP? If not, I'm leaning against adding it.

More than a year ago Chicken was making a 3D model version but it was never completed. I say go for it. Remember, the broken version has dripping animations so you will have to make multiple frames.

Ahh damn I've been in bed with a flu and fever... so I haven't been able to do anything for the moment.

Still I left a rar attached with some files that I've been working on.

An edited chaingun muzzle flash that is a little less orange and with a little bit of alpha.
A correction of the muzzle flash that I did for the pistol ( it had a squared zone of white pixels that I didn't see before )
And a new bullet hole.

I also leave a sample of two new textures of blood ( I tried to make them look more "bloody" -sorry for the stupid joke) and a new crack in the wall ( there's a slight problem with the crack, it only works in this position )... you guys should know if it is worthwhile to finish the rest.

@spiker

you state "I don't mind that someone edits my pictures..." but it seems from the rest of the post that you clearly do...

if this is about credit where credit's due the answer is simple; take it.
Seriously, if its about putting you name on something, do it.
as I said, its your work before I did anything and its still your work now, I'm not interested in leaving my mark on duke3d HRP I just thought that others might enjoy what I had done with it...

regards
Latchford

I think that you misunderstood me, I do not care about credit or something like that, I do this for fun, specially when I used your idea for the new changes of the shotgun shell that made the new texture what it is now. I only meant to say that It could be taken as a little annoying for someone ( anyone ) spending probably an hour or even more to make some of these textures and later for the texture to get edited as soon as they are posted. I do believe it could be more productive and helpful to the mod if you make something new from scratch or some other edit to a texture or sprite that could need a little work. But still that's just what I think.

I think Parker made a normal map for one of the cracks. It looked really, really good in a screenshot, but for some reason it was never added to the HRP. Go ahead and do the cracks, they'd look great with a normal map and actually having some depth for a change :(

@Spiker, it looks like the milk cartons have the same level of reflectivity as the racks, and it looks like it's part of the rack. Is there a way to change the spec map so the difference in light behavior is more noticeable?

This thing? Weird, I really thought it was in the HRP at some point. Maybe Parkar still has it somewhere.

This one isn't used anyway but it's about 80% of 4181 which is pretty important. Of course some nice label suggestions are welcome.

You thought I'm not aware of that? In fact it doesn't make things any more difficult but only more time consuming.

That's because the cartons are behind a glass pane and this affects reflectivity. I know that glass is a very reflective material but I had to tone it down because it didn't look too good.
