Version 3.1 has just been unlocked on the HRP website. Enjoy!

Hell yea! ;) (gotta love this emoticon) Another version is out, the compilation has grown even bigger and better! Once again, my gratitude to NF!

P.S.: Sorry for not being able to test LRWB. Btw, in that section I remember using steroids which I had acquired earlier through the episode (I know it's uncalled for anymore, I just wanted to point that out).

Fantastic work, thank you so much for all of this preservation work ;)

(incidentally I also tried to fix the corruption in the complex episode's first map, that was probably some of the worst corruption I've come across. Not surprised you had to rebuild it, I tried and tried and couldn't find a way to salvage the original cave either. Kinda amazing how corrupt a lot of older maps are - nice work in anycase)

So I guess the next version will be 4.0. When are you planning to start working on it and will you include the addons proposed by Fantinaikos in his last post?

P.S.: I hope I will manage to finish all testing work needed for Oblivion during the in-dev process of the version.

I am also wondering if next version of Addon Compilation Pack will be called 3.2 or 4.0 because it is first time we have a non x.0 version released. ;)

I will take the liberty to make a "creative break" now. With three releases within one year (and that between April and September), I definitely exceeded the amount of effort and time I wanted to put into this. Also, there are not too many addons left which can be added by now, and considering quality, the best stuff is already in.

The plan is to make one more content release which may have "historical" addons, putting in as many as possible (and avoiding adding any more author-based compilations). From there on out, it should mostly be about maintenance or adding stuff which is brand-new (provided authors give me permission to include it). When I will start working on it is unknown at this moment, and it's also too early to ask for a date. However, it's certainly not going to start this year any more. I want to shift my focus to working on the HRPs (also the one for DukeDC) for a while again which have been completely inactive for a long time. Additionally, several games will be released in the near future that I want to play, and this compilation blocked me pretty much from pursuing any of my hobbies or fully enjoying my private life.

In the next few weeks, I will start compiling a list of potential candidates to be added for v4.0. Most likely, I will put a poll here to let you guys vote for your favorite entries (I see it coming that everybody just wants everything to be added, but I will at least give you the choice, anyway ;)).

One way or the other, enjoy this release for the time being. Even though only few things are new, it's not a small accomplishment. And this time, it's mostly thanks to you guys who helped me finding problems I didn't notice by myself. This is also reflected by adding the playtesters to the credits section of the new readme file.

Well, to me it's obvious why it was a non-zero version (c'mon, it was a maintenance release :D ).

Remember it, was a nice idea to give the player an opportunity to take the role of the predator after the first installment. Shame that it had only 1 level (AFAIK).

Not bad! And tho I'm not particularly interested in HRP (good ole' 2.5D graphics 4ever :dukerage: ), I wish you to improve it by as much as you've done to the compilation. ;)

NF, I fully agree with you and a long break is very deserved as you put a lot of effort into these new versions which are getting bigger and better and I would also like to thank you very much for making this compilation as it's one of the best things that happened to the Duke modding community and having a compilation of best maps and mods of all time is a nice thing to have and a very good way to also introduce new people into the modding world in Duke3D, as you said in the readme at beginning. And yeah about readme, I am glad you credited everyone who gave you feedback (me and others that contributed), without us there would still be bugs around. :D

BTW I noticed there are still some small mistakes in the readme files that I will point out soon when I start making that CBP series list.

True but the previous updates were also meant to be maintenance releases until addons started getting added that a new version number was going to be used instead. Though I wouldn't mind seeing from now on more frequent x.1, x.2, etc versions because in a few years, we will probably reach version 10.0 or something like that. :dukewhistle:

Yes and the suggestion is mostly because if the first AvP TC is already included, I don't see why the second one shouldn't be included, despite the fact that it's short but like I said before, I wouldn't mind seeing more 1 or 2-level releases included in the compilation.

Removing the DC maphacks from the repo will be a good start. :D

Yepp, since they are part of the regular HRP by now and more up-to-date, they shouldn't be part of the DC HRP any more. Will check it out tomorrow.

Why Nuclear Showdown has been removed?

It was buggy and the amount of work required to fix it so it works fine is too much for a compilation pack - I'd update it at some point but RichardStorm is working on this which looks like it's gonna do everything NS did and some more so keep an eye on that instead ;)

Additional to that, most (if not all) of the user maps episode are included in the Urban Map Pack. There's no need to have the same maps twice. Also, Nuclear Showdown is a mod by definition with no levels on its own. This disqualified it from being part of the compilation.

I agree. Gameplay mods shouldn't be part of this compilation and also the fact that Nuclear Showdown didn't even have original maps, it was just random user maps added as an episode.

Any reason why it was added in the first place? As far as I remember seeing it back in 2007 on YouTube, it was a pretty good mod but as said above, it doesn't have any original maps, so it doesn't make sense to have it part of the compilation.

I didn't know that the custom episode didn't consist of maps made by the author of the mod. As soon as I realized that, I knew it had to go.

How about lo launch a "make original levels for Nuclear Showdown" thread? It seems an unusual proposal for an old mod but It can be fun community activity for mappers. It can get into the compilation at that point.

Imagine that you wrote a big fat novel when you were much younger. And imagine that since then, you have matured as an author, and you have taken all the good ideas from that first novel and developed them into better projects. Now imagine that someone has asked you to go back to that old novel and fix it, line by line. It would be torture, and that's sort of what it's like if you try to go back and rework a big mod that you made a long time ago.

This also describes most of reverse engineering expecially when you don't have the source code.

It is like people say you to remake Duke Nukem Weapon Of Mass Destruction.

http://www.moddb.com...ass-destruction

Actually, you did it Attrition it is a sorta of DNWMD remake.

There's no need to mourn for one mod dropping out of the compilation. There are so many others that got added in return. And as much as some of you may want it, many addons will never be part of this collection.

I remember being disappointed few years ago when I found out that the levels that came with Nuclear Showdown were just random user maps compiled into an episode.

Anyway I've made the list of the rest CBP series that could be added into the next version of addon compilation pack:

Beach CBP: https://forums.duke4...-build-project/
1 Hour CBP: https://steamcommuni...s/?id=241768744
1 Hour CBP 2: https://steamcommuni...s/?id=244293235
1.5 Hour CBP: http://www.scent-88....our/1.5hour.php
2 Hour CBP: http://www.scent-88....p01/2hcbp01.php
Jonof CBP 1: http://www.scent-88....cbp1/jfcbp1.php
Jonof CBP 2: http://www.scent-88....cbp2/jfcbp2.php
Russian CBP 1: http://www.scent-88....R/rcbp/rcbp.php
Russian CBP 2: http://www.scent-88....rcbp2/rcbp2.php
Suburban Hive: http://www.scent-88....s/S/sub/sub.php
Suburban Hive 2: http://www.scent-88....S/sub2/sub2.php

If you need any help with getting the 1 Hour CBP maps from Steam Workshop, let me know so I can upload the maps here as attachment.

Soon I will upload the fixed readme files that had minor typos and so on.

Does it have CBP 8: Metropolitan Starlight?

No. Main CBP series (1-8) are already included in the compilation. Only "spin-offs" such as the ones I linked above aren't included.

I already knew about that. It's what I used in past to download maps from Steam Workshop, much easier than getting them from Steam. But these days I use the other Steam Workshop downloader:
http://steamworkshop.download/
Unlike the one you linked, this one doesn't require any plug-ins to be installed, so you can download the map directly. ;)

I have taken a quick look at the CBP files. The RCBP maps come with custom user.con and sound files. That basically disqualifies them from being part of any compilation since there would be conflicts with other maps. The rest should be OK, though.

Maybe it's also better like that since there can only be 7 episode slots while 8 would be needed if all maps had to be in the same groupfile. With RCBP missing, it's just barely sufficient.

Well yeah I forgot to mention that RCBP 1 and 2 come with their own con files and it's fine if you don't include them, it's not like we are missing too much. ;)

I had stated earlier on that I didn't want gameplay mods to be included in this compilation (which is one of the reasons why "Nuclear Showdown" was removed). Judging from video footage like this, the quality of the new maps is also kinda questionable.

As a reminder: The project is on temporary hold and will not continue in the next few months.
