I will bet my hat he responds with something along the lines of "Just another overpriced Jewforce card with crappy Ching components and shite drivers"

First off, if anyone games in Linux, I've got a bullet with your name on it. Go suck on a Glock.

Second off, if you want to do actual work or watch even the simplest video, you aren't going to get vsync working with an Nvidia card. It's just broken as fuck and they don't care.

I game in Linux and get good perf and play the games I care about. And vsync works when I want it to (I generally keep it disabled because tearing doesn't bother me as much as latency). If you want to force full composition on everything it's pretty easy.

That's better than OpenGL shit just being broken on everything else except maybe Mesa unless you're only doing basic tasks. But you won't get good performance out of that and it's only just gotten 4.0 compliant.

Do your videos experience tearing or not?

Here's Gamespot's review of NVidia GTX 1070.

Or if you want real Linux usability, go ATI.

"B-b-b-but muh Linux OpenGL performance!"

Not normally, but it has happened. However, as we've established tearing doesn't really bother me. I could probably eliminate it but it's so rare I've never cared. If it happens all the time for you though that sucks. What DE do you use?

My IPS panel tears near the top so it's hard to tell even when something isn't synced. Generally I care much more about input latency than image tearing (because latency bothers the crap out of me).

Anyway, if not getting screen tearing is important to you then next time try:
export KWIN_TRIPLE_BUFFER=1

add it to profiles.
