Hey folks, now seeping the first news of former employees from 3DR and Take2 staff. I shall now look at the shocking message why 3DR really is broke.

Independently overlap in the statements of the employees. Some have certainly also the Twitterblog pursued by George (http://twitter.com/georgeb3dr). George of 3DR is a few days ago at Take2 approached them, according to the Twitter game and the developing status to show (see twittereintrag). The reason is very likely to have been that despite all the contradictions 3DR DRINGEND apparently (!) Money needed for the completion and payment of employees. According to an insider-3DR has the financial crisis probably also strong in this group process. George took his statement, according to 5 million U.S. dollars to release the game to get ready, T2 invites reflection. George Broussard and Scott Mills was confident that as a publisher Take2 certainly money to one of the biggest titles of the game industry would be stuck and organized (of victory before the decision of T2) a barbecue for the employees of the company (see Twittereintrag).
Before 2-3 days has been reported 3DR at T2 and a very different offer with no one has expected. T2 wanted no money in the Duke stuck, according to insiders doubted T2 heavily on the completion and believed not, and George were now also annoyed by his arrogant manner, instead (!) And that has probably 3DR neck broken, could 3DR rights DNF for distribution of T2 for 30 million U.S. dollars to buy back."

3D realms could do a lot of of things to prevent shutting down.
For instance:
1)They can release DNF(which is nerly done I assume)
2) They can sell their rights, their brands

Moreover, 3D realms closed so suddenly..and no comments from Scott and George.

Looks like it's really a bullshit. I can't believe that 3D realms shut down in such a way. Its a crap.

ASSUMING THE RUMORS ARE TRUE.

It has to be that the BBQ meant the game was close to a release, with maybe one of those milestones left until gold. I assume they celebrated expecting T2 to pay them to finish the game, but found that in the economic situation that that was not possible. The only option was to shut down everything so that they could pay what they had left to get the doors closed (pay lay offs, etc).

This seems like one big kick in the balls to T2, who's fault it is pretty much that the fate of DNF is in serious jeopardy.

The only positive that could come out of this is if George makes sure the project makes it over to another studio (Radar Group maybe) and finishes out there. Then, with game proceeds it is possible that 3DR can be ressurected if they so wish. George is getting pretty old and I dont think he wants to put up with this game forever.

Think about it, DNF has been George's life for the last 12 years, if not more. He can't give it up, or can he? He is George right?

Is 3D Realms publishing deal with Take 2 keeping them from getting a different publisher (who might want to pay)?
I had some trouble reading zwieback's post, but that was what I got from it.

Yeah it seems like they would make some official statement at least if they really where shutting down, but then again a piece of me is saying 'told you so'

Do you really think Take2 will consider it as a kick in the balls? And not as "we got rid of these incompetents at last"?

There are some "blanks" which haven't been answered yet:

- As necroslut stated, is there a possibility for 3DR to brake that contract with Take2 and get funds by signing a contract from another publisher?
- George Broussard hasn't made anything official.
- Scott Miller, who is 3DR's co-owner, hasn't stated anything neither.
- Duke Nukem IP is quite, quite famous. Couldn't they just do "something" with it?
- Why all of a sudden???
- Why everyhing has been nice and flully until yesterday? Cutting is shipping, milestone, BBQ party? -> SHUT DOWN!?

Jesus, I DON'T want to believe this.

Let's just wait for any official anouncement, but i suspect worst things are to come.

Deny everything until reality kicks you in the nuts.

Cutting is shipping, milestone, BBQ party, were all means to deny everything until reality kicked 3DRealms in the nuts.

I'm just going to say that there seems to be a real fixation with nut kicking here...

But, we know nothing except that 3DR is shutting its doors and Joe isn't the person to tell us why. We also know that Take2 still has the publishing rights to DNF. There is nothing else here.

Yeah but think of the employees. Had I been one of them, the internets would have collapsed of DNF leaks, believe me.

And bankruptcy? What bankruptcy? I believed 3DR was being funded by itself!

Why go suddently and ask TT for money, when they had a non-funding contract?

Hey you, why won't you share some bucks, mate? I don't believe it.

I don't want to believe an enterprise such as Take2 would not want to fund a game like DNF.

Jesus, it can't end like this. 3DR is no crappy-little enterprise, it's 3DR!!! SEGA has screwed it up way far than 3DR has, and it hasn't died yet! And it continues screwing it up with crap games such as Golden Axe or the current lame Sonic shit

It can't end like this...

It isn't fully official until (so the rumor goes) Friday. I suspect that tomorrow there will be a press release.

I don't get why some people doubt the demise of DNF and 3DR based on some multi-interpretable statements by George Broussard that only the wishful thinkers somehow translate to the game being almost done.
We're supposed to pretend he has always been on the level regarding DNF's development status?
Sorry, I may be inching towards 40, but my memory capacities have not deteriorated quite that far.

I don't think so. Even though 3DRealms is broke, the publishing rights of DNF lie with Take2. And if a 3DRealms employee attempts to leak DNF, it means lawsuits up the ass by Take2.

Atleast Sega shows signs of life by releasing something. How do you expect a company to fund themselves without releasing some kind of new product?

I guess they were trying to survive on all their licensing agreements.

Unfortunately for them those can only take you so far.

Well $1 in revenues from licensing is just as worthwile as $1 in royalties from an internally developed games. 3DR's(or any other company's for that matter) bottom line doesn't discriminate the source of the revenue.

Well I am sure T2 has wanted to tell 3DR where to shove it since the "T2 NEEDS TO STFU" days, and now they got their chance when 3DR needed money. But this project has been going for 12 years, with T2 there for most of it. It all ends because they deny money to it, and the project was ALMOST DONE. Instead of getting the game T2 has been waiting to publish, they get nothing.

George: IF T2 WONT PAY US THEN WE WILL SHUT DOWN EVERYTHING AND SEE HOW THAT GOES THEY WILL BE SORRY THEN HUH
