3D Realms Shutting Down

...because you know everything, don't you?

EVERYBODY on each side should stfu, as there are no official statements. Yeah, there's this Sue against 3DR, but that's 3DR AND Take2 business, not ours.

I've bashed George as well, but I preffer to stay low until news come to us.

Maybe they'll surprise us, and by they I mean 3DR OR Take2.

He doesn't know everything, but I do. GB is a fat, financially-irresponsible moron that should save some face and let T2 buy him out and get the game finished.

I sincerely hopes GB finishes this game, sells this IP to Take 2 and then stops making game. He will do better being a manager in a strip club. He definitely is not good in making games. The days of making a full game woth one full floppy is long gone.

Thats why the shareware marketing for DNF will come in a box filled with 1,024 floppies! 1.42GB of pure shareware goodness!

I agree with what some of the posting on this forum have stated.

1. If you live in the area where 3drealms is, please.. STOP COUNTING THE %#^@! CARS!!! You're practically admitting you're a stalker! Jeez, let the people that remain at 3drealms do their jobs without detailing their every movement. The company is gone, which brings me to ...

2. Any person in this forum that has "hope" that all this is just a "marketing scheme" or that Duke will rise again through 3drealms, please re-evaluate your thinking. The game is not being developed by 3drealms, period. You can make the argument, however, that maybe it will be developed/release by another company.

3. Until George or Scott decide to get their shit together (especially George, IMO ONLY), let's see how all of the event that led to the closing of 3drealms play out.

4. And no, I don't know it all. That's why I keep stating, IMO= In My Opinion.

5. I won't defend 3drealms or Take 2 because for one thing IMO, 3drealms should have released this game a decade ago/2001 (they wouldn't be broke at this point). Take 2 might have put some stipulation for ETA release, rather than sue 3drealms now.

6. It was only until the end when 3drealms decided to announce a 90% completion (and some publicity via Jace Halls Show). It was irresponsible of George or Scott to not let the team know of 3drealms finances. I remember reading the forum at 3drealms where Joe (if it was George, I'll be flabbergasted) stated he had no clue and was shocked that he was outta a job. Responsible companies at least forewarn their employees of the company's financial stability.

Yeah, just look at Joe's podcast interview on DNF the day before the shutdown. :P

There's a 2nd half to that which has been held back. We should campaign them for it.

Regarding this, didn't they say (joe i think) that they will hand the building to another company from this Monday? Or is it still 3d realms office? Did they rent it or own it?

Awesome post by Hyperactive Slob over at teh 3DR forums:-

I talked with George a couple minutes ago and asked him what he felt about DNF's cancellation this what he said. Word for word.

George Broussard: Nothing is over! Nothing! You just don't turn it off! It wasn't my game! You asked me, I didn't ask you! And I did what I had to do to meet schedule! But somebody wouldn't let us! And I come back to the world and I see all those maggots at the forums, protesting me, spitting. Calling me "game killer" and all kinds of vile crap! Who are they to protest me? Huh? Who are they? Unless they've been me and been there and know what the hell they're yelling about!

This is old by the way.

As I've said, I drive past the location all the time on the way to the highway. I mentioned the number of cars one time and a couple of people were interested. I don't think it's "detailing their every movement," since I have no idea what they are doing and would offer no insight into that even if I had it. Some thought I was trying to say the cars proved it was a conspiracy, but I never thought it was.

What isn't really known is that this all sort of has basis in a joke from a number of years ago. I was talking to Joe about living in the area, and somebody said, "Drive by and tell us how many cars are there. We want to know they're really working on the game." I never did it and wouldn't have done it while they were a going concern, since I wasn't going to give ammunition to either side ("Duke is never coming out"; "Duke will be done when it's done") when we would have no idea why there were few people on one day and a lot of people on another. They were also pretty uptight about people knowing their location, which is no longer a concern (though, I still haven't given the address and wouldn't while there are still employees there).

Ultimately, I don't think there's any harm in a car count. For me, as someone who has continued to be proud and amazed to live right near where fantastic games like Duke Nukem 3D were made, it's been a sad, tangible indicator of that entity dying. I wish George would get a big infusion of capital and the parking lot would be filled to the brim, but that's not happening.

A couple of guys have been interested in knowing what things will look like over there on Monday. Don't ask for it and we can let this topic die, which I tried to do on Friday anyway. I will PM the couple of you who have asked.

Eh... It's easily located via Google maps... and when you go to street view you can see a Lamborghini.

Thanks. I'm glad to know I wasn't single-handedly threatening security. <== sounds like a sarcastic reply, but it's not intended to be

Didn't they move their offices since Duke 3D?
Or is my mind making things up?

Yeah, but still in the same city. You can find the old offices as well on Google Maps.

I'm about a mile from the old offices and two miles from the new. As I've said, I went up to the old offices to pick up some games and the employee who drew the short straw and had to deal with the public didn't seem too happy. :P I'm pretty sure the practice of picking up games in person was stopped at that point, and was never allowed at the new building.

Triangulation of the two spots that Ras could live complete... commencing Duke Bot Protocol DNF-82.

So, if anybody knows:

Do 3drealms still owns the building, or since Friday they have abandon it and they have hand it over to another company?

Posted Image My Daughter in the 3D Realms Lobby by JoeSiegler [May 10, 2009]

"Video of my daughter running around on the Nukem logo in the lobby of 3DR HQ.
She used to do this a lot when she was little, but with me not working there in a week,
I wanted to grab some video of it while I still could.
She used to do this for like 4 or 5 minutes straight, making herself dizzy.
Not as much anymore; I guess running in a circle like that is not as exciting at 4 as it was at 2. :P"

I think this is false: "but with me not working there in a week,
I wanted to grab some video of it while I still could"

What you think?

I could provide some insight if I saw their cars/George's vehicle there on Monday, but the majority here don't seem to want that report. :P

I don't know for a fact, but I believe they own the building. They were doing really well when they moved in and they are the only occupants, so I think it's theirs. If so, they won't be forced to abandon it or turn it over to anyone. They could put it up for sale, but they hadn't put up a sign by the end of last week. They may never put up a sign if they sell it to a specific buyer.

Ras thanks for your reports. I definitely want to know how many cars are there every day and if George still keeps on showing up there. I dont think you are breaking any law by driving past that road and counting the cars in that parking place.

Oh and I love that video of Joe's daughter running around in circles around the symbol. She is so cute !

Plus even though they did shut down the studio, the building still could be owned just in case they get funding later, and with the royalties from DNT games along with other things, they could probably easily keep at least the building.
