Confusing.. I know. Still, point being that it's strange to have a non-funding game developer. They probably should have hammered out a new contract somehow. too bad.

You could be very well right, I'm not sure about all that myself.
I just seem to recall reading that somewhere.

Generally the best publisher deal you can make is one that does _not_ involve ongoing funding, ie. if you can pay for it yourself and just let the publisher handle distribution and marketing you will get higher royalty percentages and better conditions.

If you make a deal with on-going funding you'll get lower royalties, and certain minimum number of sales have to be met before you start getting cash etc, so that the publisher get all the money back the paid you.

So no, them not getting the developement funded does not make it a "crappy deal", it makes it the best possible deal you can make as an independent developer if you can afford that luxury.

That makes alot of sense but its a shame they couldn't get more funding in the end.

Hey I wonder why is Joe moving both the forum and the site to a new server. I mean if 3drealms kicked the bucked and he wants to move the forum to preserve it like he said, why does he need the site also? Does anybody really care to keep up the official site of a dead gaming company?
Keep the forums ok, but why the main site?
Anybody has any theories on that one?

Now that is interesting. Thx for the explanation hornoxe.
So then the problem would have been 3dr no longer being able to afford said luxury. It makes it an even more brutal investment to have to drop out of like they did. >_<

I guess that's where the game's and company's (long) history plays a part, and also the fact that the contract was kinda secondary to T2 (meaning, they got it along with the company they bought), which resulted in them not bending a little and be forthcoming even if not obligated to do so.

Mr.Deviance, there are 2 possible ways i see.

1) Just to preserve history of 3dr as a developer (site), and theold forum with old people with whom you can have interesting conversations, etc.
2) Moving it all to the server with more advanced money\traffic coefficient. It will be done with some predicted limit of users in mind with a predicted upgraded interest from user to this site\forum.

I don't think anyone much cares. But, for you, I'll say that it was about the same as yesterday. It'll only be interesting to see how it's like on Monday. I'm just wondering if I'll see a for sale sign soon.

Don't get all offensive on each others, stay cool and keep up the original discussion..!
And there's no need to let off steam by cursing and saying offensive things about the situation and George, which obviously will upset people in here and lead to some nasty offtopic talkthat nobody wants to read, we have a rant thread for that, nobody will (or has the right) to oppose anyone there, but keep it out from other threads, like this one...

Doesn't anybody else think that this art style would look good in a game based on the idea that the duke nukem action took place in real life rather than in a comic book? I mean just look at how frightful this character is compared to the one on the top right of this forum's banner which looks stereotypical and like a werepig taken out of a comic book.
Btw this reminds me of the pinky demon from doom 1 and 2 a bit, if they would work it up a bit, and make it more pinkish, it could look great in doom4 I think!

@Mr.Deviance
Personally, I like the style in the top right corner more than those pictures you posted.

Well the style in the top right corner is obviously intended to bring you back to the dn3d ambient which is great, but I wonder what they were thinking when they made the pig looking so ugly back between 2003-2006
I mean that pig can't even hold a shotgun in his hands lol. I think duke nukem would have been a horror game with such art style.

really awesome work, but it doesnt fit to duke at all!

It would fit a real life duke nukem game though.
And it would most definitely fit a doom game!
When I was a kid and first played duke nukem 3d I thought the pigs were scary with those red eyes glowing in the dark and stuff.
I would love to play a duke nukem game again where characters would look much more detailed and much more ugly in order to give me the chills again at this current advanced age!
The first time I played dn3d I had a mix of feelings about it. It was a great detailed game with cool levels, cool graphics, cool characters, cool sounds and it managed to be scary some times, action packed, and comic all at once.
It was a magic recipe that I am sure that not even dnf will ever match if it ever comes out.
It was also a game among the first games to look good, it was a true innovation while today there is no more innovation done in games.

look what I found out:

http://www.facebook....gid=97701010831

Joe is moderator at the "save duke nukem" facebook page.

and you know what. Frederik Schreiber being the founder of the group. And I have the strong feeling that Helios ( http://forums.3dreal...mber.php?u=4621 ) is Frederik, just check the his email address and you get the clue!

So why is Joe Siegler joining as a moderator on Frederiks group?!

JobivanHiob, conspiracy theory fanatic

also Frederik seems to be involed in this one 3D Realms donation portal http://shoutcast.tas...en.net/3dr.html

OMG a few minutes after I reported Joe being moderator, he was removed!

Conspiray theories exploding!

Guys, you can't tell me that nothing is going on!

the 'Save Duke Nukem'-project is a huge marketing stunt!

I know BELIEVE!

That looks like the pig-lizard from Galaxy Quest. In that light it's not scary at all lol.

Joe is still a member of that group, just not a moderator any more.

He probably changed his status there because george told him to remain silent on the matter (stfu) for the time being, what with take2 suing 3dr and whatnot.

Save Duke Nukem is as much a marketing stunt as duke4.net, not at all.

For the last time, Its no fucking stunt!

Wieder would not be helping his friends that worked at 3DR if this was the case.

Ramen, Take Two never bought Infogrames. When DNF was announced GT Interactive was the publisher, they got bought by Infogrames(Now Atari) who then sold the publishing rights to Take Two. No money transferred to 3D Realms as part of that arrangement, it was strictly between Take Two and Inforgrames/Atari.
