Duke3D & SW - Early/Alpha/Beta/Gold Material

Is this the earliest build?

It's pretty painful to watch :/

As others have said, that's the way the sausage is made. Try looking at it and having to interact with it every day. :)

Fred, I watched your twitchtv playthrough of Shadow Warrior... Let the real you shine through in your typing, more profanity please :woot:

More sailor, less politician.

People deal with the rough edges better in video than dry text. A lot gets projected onto text that results in people you never desired to rub wrong to feel rubbed wrong. Mmm rubbing. I don't speak from recent experience at all. /hug

At one point the episode started in a space station (before you escape back to Earth...) and ended with you going back into space again. Sorry if that's vague, there has just been a LOT of data to go through--enough to almost get mixed up on some of it. I turn 30 in January and there are more files here than there have been days in my life.

Are you talking about before or after lameduke?

I wonder, if the gun changing appearence when you enter the water sector, is a glitch or an unfinished effect at the time?

Also I like the early multiple sprite explosions and debris, already a lot more involved than Doom :)

Stadium is significantly different--I can only guess the direction they went with it didn't work out, resulting in a last minute reversion to what was more or less the 1994 version of the map--

Don't tell me it was like in Nintendo 64. Which bring the question, was there a feature to rescue woman at some point?

I'm under the impression that TX and Hendricks are focusing most of their duke time on eduke32 android at the moment. Personally I think it's better that they're doing this (not only do they get paid for it but the improvements will carry on to regular eduke32 so we can all enjoy them). The betas will always be there and I'm sure they'll turn back their attention to it at some point.

I don't think TX and Hendricks have much control over this.

Yes and no. "Yes" in that it's not "our" data, we signed NDAs and can't just start posting zip files full of stuff, etc, but "no" in the sense that the effort is more or less "my" project--Fred sent the stuff at my insistence, people asking about it have been told to defer to us for more information, etc. Things progress at the rate that Evan and I get to them.

For instance, the whole existence of that recent video showing the earliest prototype we've got was brought on by our end; I proposed releasing a video to sort of "throw everyone a bone" regarding the whole thing, Fred said OK, then Evan recorded it and we sent it off to 3DR who threw the intro and music on it and released it.

Evan actually just got home today after spending nearly 2 weeks here, and we did spend a fair bit of time digging through materials when we needed a break from working on our upcoming releases. Every time I start to think I've seen all there is to see, I find something else really interesting!

For example...

There was going to be an updated shareware that teased another episode in the main menu...?

Hmm, I wonder why an updated shareware version would be canned?

Probably canned it to give gamers even more of a reason to purchase the full game?

Do you know how to take screenshots? Rule #2 is keep the upscaling to a minimum, and rule #1 is never use filtering!

The final L.A is more detailed but that one looks more atmospheric. Which one do you guys like more?

Also that outside view of the target range is pretty cool.

Except I didn't upscale or filter the image, as all I did was do a quick-and-dirty printscreen off of the DN2 Intro video from Youtube as I was unable to turn up those 2 images from a quick Google search.
