Dunno about positioning, but the ZMBV encoding I linked in the description is lossless iirc.

I still really wish at the very least, the MIDI tracks from that demo could get released. I would love to hear the full version of Plasma used in that, it has a darker ROTT sound to it.

Lee Jackson already released those others. Perhaps he could share those as well?

With the trend of most of the weapons having an alt-fire mode, I'd guess that the Freezethrower was originally planned to be the alt-fire to the Flamethrower (similar to the Shrinker's altfire being the Expander), but it was made the primary when altfires were scrapped.

And if I had to make a wild guess, I'd speculate that the RPG's altfire was a Grenade launcher.

This was hidden in this thread, but I don't think anybody ever found it.

Sorry for my shitty ignorance, but is there any link available to download that beta? It looks very cool.

I think everyone would like to play it. :P

I still like the original idea and design of the plasma gun and the larger RPG. LameDuke probably has the art assets to recreate that plasma gun, the HUD sprite and the pickup sprite and the projectile and impact sprites and all that. Then it would just be a matter of programming it to act like the original.

Interesting that Duke originally had a jump sound... Blood still has one, but it's quieter than the first one they were using.

He did? Where can they be found if you do not mind me asking?

Quick, dirty recordings with a shitty Sound Canvas; https://www.mediafir...yptaweqn68r3m88

Sorry, I'm limited to recording with a PAS16 at the moment, so this is the best I can do. Even if I could do better I wouldn't put myself out over it given half of you would just ignore it and wait for someone else to do the exact same thing, these are only here as I was uploading them for someone else anyway.

Super Fnord is my favorite, but the beginning doesn't play right, seems to bombard my SC with a few too many FX events, it actually causes the host Pentium (66MHz) to slow down a little there too.

Great stuff, still awaiting the day to have early Gotham and Plasma, whenever that may be if it ever happens. Thanks Gearbox.

Itsgreen.mid being the song played on the demo that involves running around on the skyscraper rooftops?

While we're on the subject of Lee's midis, is there a chance the unreleased Wendt - Doug Wendt ROTT track could see a release in its original midi format? As far as I know, there aren't any legal quagmires surrounding ROTT, the track has already seen a public release in one form, and I presume the midi was available for this purpose at the time.

I don't have it. The data Fred sent us focused on Duke 3D and SW, true to this thread's title. I can think of a handful of examples of data cross-pollination from other games (for example, a higher res source image of the Stargunner title screen) but beyond those I only have the packaged beta testing builds from Joe Siegler's CD.

It's a conversation I'd like to reopen at some point.

I do have an early MIDI version of NITESTRM.MTM from a ROTT beta. It sounds very ROTT. :P

Did ROTT have a different soundtrack when it was a sequel to Wolf 3d?

I offered somebody a "Shadow Warrior beta" once, which was just a gutted Wolf3D demo with faked screenshots made with SW beta assets and ECWolf, in exchange for a Serious Sam alpha they supposedly had.
Hilariously, the Serious Sam alpha actually turned out to be legitimate.

The only soundtrack that existed for it is Lee's.

Does that version number have any true meaning to it?

That's an awesome track!

BTW, I think you guys mentioned that the build of ROTT with female versions of certain guards was still available somewhere. IIRC this feature was dropped from the game because it could not be optimized to work on 4 meg machines or something. I suppose that such constraints no longer apply these days, so theoretically a new build of the game with alternate guards could be created?

On a completely different (but still related) note, did you come across any of the promotional materials like official vendor screenshots for Apogee/3DR games (like the ones mentioned here)? Many of them were converted to JPEG in some not very good quality (like with Duke Nukem or Commander Keen IV). I wonder if the original PCX or GIF images still exist somewhere? I'm particularly interested in screenshots from Planet Strike, Keen: Oracle, Death Rally, Secret Agent and Rise of the Triad/Extreme ROTT.

The MIDI tracks are pretty catchy, my favorite is DARKMATT.mid.

On one hand, I wanna tell you it's bad to trick people like that, but on the other hand, it's pretty hilarious.

That's really interesting if true, I've only ever seen the video that's on youtube.

The source code is public, so anything is possible.

No, for the same reason as the WDW midi. Though we do have the map files used to make some of the Duke 3D bullshots.

What kind of name is SuperFnord for a music track anyway, am I missing some sort of obvious pun?
