In the E3 gameplay demo it's clear that finishing a demon is optional (one of the glowing downed monsters was just shot instead) and in games that have similar features (Duke Nukem Forever, Deus Ex Human Revolution) it wasn't really a problem (well, in Deus Ex the animations were a bit long but it's the one thing that DNF got just right).

Assuming that's actually a part of the game and not embellished for trailers. But they've done it twice now.

While i agree with you for the most part, unless they are a small team animating finishing moves is a job for the animators, not level designers

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt since it was just one trailer. If the next one is still full of showing off this 5+ year old mechanic as the main feature, then I'll get worried.

Also the kill moves are like double the speed in the footage with conan playing (you can even compare the mancubus death with the e3 mancubus death and see this) which seems like they deliberately slowed them down for the press footage.

Honestly, I think that Doom isn't something they'll ever be able to get right. Part of Doom's charm is that there was nothing like it back in the day, nowadays there are dozens of similar games.

If anyone wants a EVEN MORE straight remake, there is Doom Reborn for Doom 3 already.

And I bet that when ID release modding tool for DOOM 4, someone will make a mod that change the game into DOOM 1 and/or DOOM 2. Again.
So just wait, for now have fun with the new comer.

Are there going to be proper mod tools for the game? Last I heard the only thing that was coming out was SnapMap, which sounds quite limited.
#945 Posted 05 February 2016 - 11:53 PM
At the very least Snapmap seems to have some really impressively in-depth scripting and if they support it with (not-paid) DLC tilesets and feature expansions it could be really good, and if its successful maybe even pave the way for more advanced tools.

It's still a WIP but it already looks like a lot of fun to play.

over this:

It's not the best cover, but still better than any other art they made for this game. Funny thing is that even Doom fan art is way way better than what Bethesda made.
Is it because they want Halo audience or something? I noticed that even alpha testers compare the game to Halo series.
Is Halo today considered to be one of the best FPS games or something?
If it's true that Halo tried to copy Doom before, this is quite ironic that Doom now trying to copy Halo. At least PC and PS4 players going to experience better current-gen Halo game this time I guess.
Hate that the game is way too slow, just like Halo, though wondering how good will be level design, I believe alpha had only multiplayer. However, I don't expect something on the level of old Doom games or old FPS games in general, especially not from Bethesda. And not even mods will fix the game if it's garbage because no mod support. Guess it's time to play some Doom. Always wanted to try Doom64 EX.

Yeah, collector's edition box cover, you can even get Revenant statue with it (wondering if the quality on the level of that Pip-Boy which came with FO4 CE). Still they really should use Revenant for standard edition as well if they can't make something better.
Even Doom 3 had better covers.
