That Doomguy's arm is bigger than his head....but the helmet makes up for it.

I love the way that these video game covers all seem to take place in a strange alternate universe with it's own peculiar physics, human anatomy and materials.

I mean, just check this shit out:

The 80s were wonderful as you could get your painting onto store shelves with only a grade-school art diploma.

At first glance that guy reminds me of U.S. presidential candidate Marco Rubio.

This one isn't mine, it's by CGPhantom.

Make the eyes glow and I think you have a solid assert there. Great job.

Hey, that does look pretty good, and presumably it's using the vanilla/chocolate engine so it doesn't have to rely on extreme modifications to make it look nice.

For the record, this will require a limit-removing port; other than that, there are very few enhanced features (with the notable exception of floor/ceiling light transfers and a few false-floor effects). It’ll be done when it’s done.

I imagine it's using the BOOM map format, which is standardized on most Doom source ports (kinda like how the increased sector limit is standardized in Jonof, Megaton and Eduke32) so it still won't be using any new flashy features or stuff.

Just had a quick look through that thread and those shots look really cool. Hopefully by the time I've cleared my backlog this will be released.

This is a rough-out of the Doom-guy's helmet. I actually made one for a client a few years ago, but I'm taking another crack at him for a Doom model pack. There are thousands of different interpretations of what it should look like. Any suggestions from you guys? Keep in mind that this is a rough-out sculpt and I'm going to 'sharpen it up' later once the shape is right.

I think that looks pretty good, though I think the "forehead" of the helmet above the visor should protrude out a bit more than it currently does.

I always thought the Doomguy helmet looked a bit like a football helmet for some reason.

Voxels are the new thing now, having destructible worlds can be fun, but I don't see the point doing voxel weapon models, just render them with triangles and call it a day. At the end of the day it shouldn't matter what tech you use just make assets that look awesome.

It's very important for a whip, because it adds perspective.

How do you mean?

A sense of depth. It'll mean the whip will extend out into the environment, not look flat.

Your confusing sprites with 3d meshes, I meant for first person weapons, it doesn't matter if geo is rendered as triangles or voxels(voxels would be a unnecessary perf hit, with zero gain), but these assets are looking awesome so I'm not going to say anything. I'm really looking forward to some of the assets these guys are making.

It amazes me that stuff like this is still being found out about the game after more than 20 years. It shows that id Software created something very special indeed that people still want to unearth all of its secrets. :)

I'm not. I know what a fucking voxel is you nitwit. I also know the difference between a sprite and a 3D mesh.

3D Model and Voxels both have an advantage over a sprite because you have PPFFFFT, WHAT DO YOU FUCKING KNOW? A SENSE OF DEPTH! 3D SPACE! WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THAT SHIT?!

Give me a goddamn break. I feel like you are intentionally douching it up and treating me like I'm some kind of idiot. You did it in the last thread, and now you're doing it here.

I'm actually surprised no one found it sooner, that is interesting I always wondered what inspired those crazy switches.

I'm wasn't trying to be, to be honest I actually didn't recognize your username, and took me a minute to remember what you were talking about :) Sorry though.

Holy balls, the store I work at had a copy of that book a few months ago! Now I really regret not flipping through it when I had the chance.
