Supaplex was a kick ass game. I used to play it in the early and mid 90s. :)

It sounds like a great game.  I do have a 386 with Doom installed on it, but it's probably too fast.

I thought it was a 486 you had? But anyway, a 386 is slow enough (32 mhz?), you have DOS on that one, right? Then you can play it on your 386, yes. (Considering you can find the original supaplex... it's freeware, but many websites offer the inferiour speedfix instead, so make sure you've got the correct thing B))
It'll keep you busy for YEARS :)

EDIT: http://www.elmerprod...ware/sp_org.zip
I just found the original B)
However, that version requires codes to start the game, and the creator doesn't want to give the codes for some strange reason (even though the game is freeware).

I have a 386 and also a couple of 486's too. I got those 486's off of ebay because I was having trouble getting certain Duke Addons to run after my original 486 stopped working. I always got a runtime error. So I needed another 486, and ended up with two, because the first one that I ordered had problems. It ended up working out and I could play Duke it out in DC, and Duke!Zone2, again. B) I also have a 533 mhz celeron with windows 98 on it. I got it in 2002 to play Duke Manhattan. I'll get supaplex now. B)

Thanks a lot for the download link. :)

Edit: I just installed the game, but I couldn't figure out the code to play. B)

Hitman 3: Contracts

Awesome game... I finished 4 levels now, I recommend it to you, Ultra Tree... (However, isn't it better for you to play Hitman: Codename 47 first? You said you have the second, but not the first, which is a shame B))
Yes, I know, I'm progressing slowly. The day before yesterday I was in level 3, and now I'm in level 5. It's just because Hitman 3's missions are huge (compared to Hitman's and even Hitman 2's). By the time you know the layout of the levels, including all points of interest, and you developed a strategy, a lot of time has passed already B) And then the executtion takes a lot of time as well (including death and retry). Luckily, the missions are way more interesting than Hitman 2's, so it's actually fun.

Why? it works perfectly on a modern computer.

Okay, I'll get Codename 47 before I get Contracts. I like to go through games in order. B)

The reason that I got the celeron computer was, at that point in 2002, I didn't have anything but one 486(now broken) and the 386. It was the fastest computer I had ever owned back then.

I like to play series in the correct order as well B) But why did you get the second first, then?
I hope you enjoy the first one, not everyone does. Maybe try the fish restaurant demo first.

It IS too much trouble, but because it's Supaplex I'll make an exception :)

I found this link on an abandonware website, so I didn't need to dig out my old floppy from under the dust.

Thanks a lot! B) I'll go try Supaplex now. :)

I got Hitman 2 as a gift, so I didn't choose which one to get.

I just downloaded the demo of codename 47, so I'll try it as well. B)

Keep in mind that it's not a straightforward shooter. Enemies only see you as a threat if you don't have your guns holstered. So you have to solve levels with tact (only killing people when there are no witnesses around etc...). But I think you know that by playing Hitman 2.
I didn't know what when I first tried the demo, so I ended up having "mission failed" constantly, because my targets kept escaping B)

On your 386? Or are you playing it under Windows XP?
If you're playing it on your XP, I recommend to migrate to your 386, because of sound issues. The music doesn't work perfectly under XP, because only internal speaker works, and the VGA graphics don't look pure. With VDMSound you can turn on Soundblaster, but the background music will only play at half the speed for some reason. I got the sound to work correctly under Dosbox, but there are graphical errors there (some objects on the screen shaking when you go to the left or the right).

If you're playing on your 386, here are a few hints (things you HAVE to know, they're not spoilers):

- Go to the controls tab and use Soundblaster music (or adlib if that doesn't work.. heck try whatever works best, but don't use PC speaker :)). Turn on music if it isn't on yet (When I tried the version from my link, music was turned off, but sound FX was turned off, so I had to turn music on)
- You only need 5 keys: the arrows to move, and spacebar for grabbing things next to you or activating a red disk. You won't get red disks before the 23th level, but you'll need to use your spacebar to "eat" something in one of the 4 boxes around you. To do that, press and hold the spacebar and then press one of the arrow keys while still holding the spacebar.
- The game allows you to skip 3 levels (in the menu you can press "skip level"). Later, you can retry one of the levels you skipped, and if you succeed, you can skip the level you're currently in. So basically, there are always 4 levels you can have unsolved: the level where you are, plus the 3 levels you skipped. I hope you know what you mean.
- Press the function keys (F1, F2, ...) while in the menu to see demos.

Hope this helps B)
In what level are you currently? Be sure to inform me from time to time about your progress, I think it's exciting people can still discover Supaplex today and have fun with it B) I should send the creator of the game an email one day to thank him for wasting literally thousands of hours in my life (no exaggeration!).

On the 386?

Hitman 3: Contracts

In the previous level, it was the first time I got Silent Assassin rating in this game. Now up to a remake of one of Hitman's best missions!

I have to switch over to the 386. I'm currently playing on the celeron running in Dos mode. I was surprised that it worked on that computer. The celeron has a lot of sound problems, though.

I'll put it on the 386 as soon as I can(The computer isn't ready right now, because the power strip that I had it plugged into doesn't work anymore).

Remakes of a few classics, like the Cheng Fau Fish restaurant B) Most remakes have a few additions to make them extra hard.

Hm, I've been thinking about buying Hitman: Contracts a few times already. However, I'm still not sure. I really loved the first part (the Rotterdam missions are probably my favourites, they are so damn atmospheric) but I was kinda dissapointed with Silent Assasin. The missions were cool but I just didn't like the level design/atmosphere so much.

Same, I like Hitman 1 a lot but Silent Assassin was boring as crap. The susupicion system of Hitman 2 is just unfair. It has been fixed partially for Hitman 3.
So, basically, Hitman is good, Silent Assassin is bad, but Contracts is good again B)
However, the suspicion system in Contracts is not perfect either, sometimes your cover is blown when you run past a guard. That's not fun, sometimes it happens sometimes it doesn't (it happens very little though). Well, at least it beats Silent Assassin where you get shot for running even if you don't run past a guard, and walking next to a guard also got you shot.
But don't be afraid, in Contracts it's really not a problem anymore. And the levels are also a lot more fun & atmospheric (just take a look at my screenshots :)).
And this is coming from someone that blasted his way through Silent Assassin without doing an effort to be sneaky (except the first few times I tried a level) because it's just too boring.

Thanks for the little review. :) Looks like Contracts could get me excited with the Hitman franchise again, so maybe I'll finally give it a try next month (when I played through Prey).
What was your favourite mission in the first Hitman game, Cerb?

I like all Hong Kong levels, especially the final level against that Chinese guy, I lost his name. But it was cool in that mansion, because you had three levels of access: one for normal people, like 47, another for those security guards, and another for members of the Red Dragon. So you always had to find a lonely member to assassinate so you could access their territory, and you also needed to find a way around the fat guard in order to get to the big guy. Top notch level (but the remake for Contracts was kind of "minimised", altough the escape with Mei Ling is way better executed).

As for the rest, I hated the jungle missions, and the last one was abnormally hard. However, it was VERY satisfying once I could escape by plane after killing the drug lord, so after all I liked the level once I got the hang of it B)

I also like that level in Rotterdam where you have to place a GPS system on a car. It's very fun because all signs and some speech were in Dutch, which is my native language. In Contracts, the Rotterdam missions are 100% in Dutch, which was cool. (All levels have people speaking in their native language with English subtitles... way better than the "everything English" trend many games seem to follow B))
But to get back on that Rotterdam mission, I loved the part after you killed the gang members, that you had to hide the bodies within 90 seconds or so before the gun dealer arrives.

Traditions of the Trade was also a very memorable mission, but some problems with it got me frustrated.

And what about you? Also, what is your favourite Hitman 2 mission? Mine are Anathema, most St. Petersburg missions, and the one in that skycraper with the bad guy taking a bad B)

I don't have to ask your least favourite Hitman 2 mission, since it's Himalaya, just like everyone else :)

He, I also hated the jungle missions in the first Hitman game. It took me many days to finish them, but boy, was I happy once I was past them. :)
My favourite missions were definitely the Rotterdam ones(kudos to Jesper Kyd for the awesome soundtrack!). Maybe it's because I want to visit Rotterdam in really life since a long time, but I definitely loved their style and atmosphere. The hotel level was also very exciting. It was extremely difficult but still, I enjoyed it. Mabye I'm a little masochistic, don't know.

As for Hitman 2, I don't remember much of the game anymore. I played through it, was dissapointed and didn't touch it since then. But the skyscraper mission was very cool, so I guess it was my favourite mission back then.

Hm, I'll probably play through Hitman 1 and 2 in the next few weeks again. I think you awakened my appetite for the Hitman games again. B)

You should play Contracts instead, because if you play Hitman 2 again you'll be discouraged to play Contracts, I had the same problem :)
When playing Contracts, you need to try to get Silent Assassin in most levels (otherwise expert or professional), it's very fun (much more fun than to shoot your way through when your cover is blown, it's way more satisfying when you completed a level without too much unnecessary kills).

There is one odd thing about Contracts though, and that's the fact you almost always have to use the same tactic to kill a target. I mean, a few levels that way is cool, but if 90% of the levels are that way it starts to become predictable.

I didn't like the Demo of Doom 3 much...
At least not near as good as the full game... There are lot's of cool moments, while the demo only shows how the game is like, without showing any of the impressive highlights...

Yes, but if you don't like the demo, you won't like the full game either. So in that regard the demo is good. At least the demo isn't a compilation of the game's best levels, like some games tend to do.

That said, if he likes the demo, or doesn't find it bad, he'll like the actual much more...

Very much that is how games shuld be made. The best game ever made for any genre or any platform is the Super Turkey Puncher 3.

Try to beat the high score...
Just keep punching it, or when you get a very hgih score, save, and return once you feel like you wanna try again...

When you get enough points, you get a funny PDA message... :)
