LOL, we could always play though, because we're closer. Micky wasn't getting so good results before this release candidate update.

Also, I made a quick, fun DM map yesterday. It's up on steam. It's called The Courtyard.

Yeah now that Norvak's mentioned it, the map could use some rudimentary shading. A lot of the walls seem to be the same shade which makes it seem very flat, and some very basic shadows would help. You'd be amazed how far 5 minutes of shading would go towards making the map look much more natural.

Sorry, that one pic was pre 5 mins of shading, lol. It looks like this finished, really dark in mapster, but lighter on Megaton.

@termit

1) (minor) When browsing through the User Maps menu, press up at the topmost map and the selection goes an invisible list entry (probably the "USER MAPS" text). You have to press up another time to get to the bottommost map, same goes for scrolling down from the bottommost map.

2) (major) When I joined a lobby with a map I didn't already have, the game got stuck in the "Downloading map..." state, even though the map is only 50 KiB (800 KiB, read my last comment) my download speed is 10Mbit (1.5MiB).

2b) I went ahead and deleted the contents of the "workshop" directory and tried subscribing manually to the map, I found out that Steam doesn't automatically create the "maps" subdir (which I didn't know was the case).

2c) I tried rejoining the lobby WHILE subscribed to the map but without having the map file (as I deleted the "maps" directory), the game froze for the host upon launch and I got a black screen, pressing ESC during this screen would show up the main menu (but not allow me to use the menu at all), overlayed to the Lobby menu under it (can post a screen if necessary).


Also, why does the game force you to download the cover image for the usermap you're downloading. For example I had a 50 KiB map here but the download almost ended up being 1 MiB because of the cover image. What relevance does it have to the multiplayer experience?

The image comes with the zip, so it's nothing to do about it.

Keep posting more maps to workshop please. My favorites seem to come from members who are also members here. Must be experience, i know everyone likes a classic map but i want some new maps brand new ideas 2014 made DM or Single player don't care Let's Rock! To me there is nothing like a fresh idea for a classic game. I like to see those type of maps that you just wouldn't see in the original single player. Fresh! i want 2014 maps.

edit:Oh i also saw your map The Commanders house it was nice we had a few matches on it but i only think that the doors are a bit to big :S. They were looking like giant doors... fe fi fo fum where is beanstalk, no i'm just playing. But i think you should re size your doors unless you were aiming for Shaq doors on purpose. Anyway it's not big deal we had a fun match on it who pays attention to door size while killing and it was pretty good for a 4 way on it. Nice house.... if that is really it :( We really did like the aquariums with little sharks in them that was pretty bad ass

In other news, Sex City got passed the 3k downloads on the counter on Steam. I'm still very amazed at this.
Now, in the sad news, in the meantime the episode on modb grew of less than 200 downloads. Which means that less than 1% of the people who played the map on Steam bothered to download the full episode and eduke32 and play it even though I advertised it in the description of the map with a link which has a very simple tutorial on how to play it.
I think this tells a LOT of the mindset of the new playerbase we got from Megaton : they just will NOT play outside of Megaton, or only very few of them.
It's very saddening to say that, and as much as I prefer eduke32 over Megaton (I don't see anybody who uses both linking the other more, except for online play) : if you want to get your singleplayer maps played, play them with Megaton compatibility in mind, not eduke32 only compatibility. TCs, Mods and episodes are a different story, they're all generally more played and downloaded than single SP maps anyway (Steam included) as proves any download counter you can find on any TC/mod/episode.

And no, my "downloads counter autism" still hasn't faded away since I asked DN-R to put one on their site 5 or 6 years ago.
