Duke Nukem 3D Steam Community Workshop  "Usersmaps playable on the steam version of Duke3D"

Is there a glitch with the "most recent" list of the workshop? Fernando uploaded 3 DM maps and I just uploaded Castle Of The Damned (a FANTASTIC and overlooked map from 1997 by the same author as Warzone which you all should play NOW), and none of those maps appear in the 'most recent' list for me while cadamned is definitly there (i can access it thruogh "my workshop files")

It was reported this morning by another Steam user. It seems to have effected the whole Hub where the most popular things on each tab (Screenshots, Videos etc.) are from months ago. I've already shown Termit so I'm not sure if any action has been done yet.

The last time this happened (well, something similar) it got fixed over time :/

Okay, I hope it will be fixed soon as it hides visibility for the newest uploads :(

Anyway I just started a new collection for good old maps, with 3 maps in it (including castle of the damned i mentionned above)

Edit : added a fourth one, Dark City 2, a solid unoriginal map from '96.

Added another good one I had never heard of before, and it's quite amazing... After a quick google search I discovered that the guy is a French architect from the town of Nantes! EXACTLY like Pascal Rouaud ! Hmm, except that Pascal Rouaud might not live in Nantes anymore but I'm pretty sure he used to. I tried to contact him.

Anyway the map is really good, check it out :

Hey does anyone know if the workshop allows for sharing of things other than maps? (art, cons, etc.) Not saying I want to make a megaton mod, but I'm wondering if it's possible. I have megaton but I haven't even played it yet.

Only thing it supports right now is .ogg music.

haven't seen it applied by anyone yet, but the workshop guide says you can upload art and voc files

I've gotten voxels in with a grp file and some new def code. Also, I ran evil.grp an older mod, saw some new art and heard new sounds, but didn't really test much. None of this is supported on the workshop at all though, only usermaps, supposedly with art, .ogg does work for music. I needed to use launch parameters to get any mods to load.

I'm publishing another DM map soon :(

Yeah, with launch parameters it seems to work, but that means if you'll have to put instructions if you put it in the workshop on how to install and launch it with megaton. Which means, if you follow the logic and the 1% I got from my post earlier comparing Sex City from the whole episode Metropolitan Mayhem, only 1% of the people who will find it on the workshop will actually bother to do it as they'd rather stick to simple things like "click&play".

Still, that 1% COULD be worth it, it's still a few more players anyway. Now, I wonder if the developers of Megaton would agree to leave something on the workshop that does not work like the rest and that does not work in "click&play". Perhaps what one could do if he uploaded a mod or an episode is to make a fake map as well, a map which inside has the instructions on how to install and play the mod, like this if someone doesn't read or doesn't try to launch the mod properly, and does like it was any other usermap, the game won't crash and the player will find himself inside a 'map' that gives instructions on how to really play.

Finally, this is limited to mods and episodes that are jonof compatible and that don't require eduke32. Those aren't made anymore. I think the last was WGRealms 1 which didn't need eduke32? Even Metropolitan Mayhem requires eduke32 because of the number of maps in the episodes.

Try this one http://steamcommunit...s/?id=223092074 Subscribe, start the map straight away (don't choose any other map or original game) and the pistol sounds will change. If it doesn't then I don't know what to tell you but it works on different computers I have tried. No art though, just .voc.

And as I have said before, the only problem is that this only works once and if you try any other map the sounds will persist from the custom map.

Why don't you be a little more aggressive and do what mappers from ages ago did and write on the wall at the start or maybe near the end of the map with a website link or something. Surely couldn't hurt for fun. :(

I have uploaded Cleat The Coast by the Oostrum Brothers, but for some weird reason it crashes for me when I get out of the helicopter. (can anyone else confirm this)
This is a really great map and Megaton should be fixed ASAP to work with it!

EDIT: Confirmed by Jimmy that it crashes...

What a sack of shit, this map was great for SP and COOP

When I have the map downloaded and open the usermap menu, the whole game crashes for me before i even pick a map. It's fine now that I unsuscribed to the map.

Shame, it's really weird, and a great map indeed.

Check out my map on the workshop called Ghost Town, when i first released it was okay looking but very plain and missing a few things. So i added an update to it , and it's a lot better then the original now  http://steamcommunit.../?id=223507162.

Or if you would rather see in eduke32 then http://www.mediafire...y/ghosttown.zip but i must say the lighting shading etc etc was made to fit with megaton. But on eduke you might need the night vision goggles which are provided in some places !! Which was also intended. But it is single player coop and DM available.

The readme says it needs eduke32 to run..........

People used to say "requires eduke32" just to say it needs a sector-limit-enhancing sourceport (that is to say, jonof or eduke32, but nobody uses jonof anymore), but perhaps CtC REALLY requires eduke32... I really don't see how though, what eduke32-only feature could the map use besides going over the old limit?

For some reason you have to unsubscribe from the map remove the workshop file from the gameroot and redownload to see the updates :S

None, it only uses the extend sector/walls limits. It doesn't contain any TROR (didn't exist then) or Polymer lights etc.

I tried to open the map in the Megaton build editor but that thing is a piece of shit, first it wasn't displaying any Duke Nukem art and some weird looking shit instead, then I couldn't use the 3D mode and was stuck on 2D.

It could have been a crash bug in the original game that had been fixed in EDuke32 years ago.

i tried my maps with the megaton edition. they all crash the game. some will crash randomly at various points, others won't even launch-they just crash immediately.

could be coincidence, but it seems the closer the map is to the extended eduke32 wall and sprite limit the faster it crashes

I'm having an issue with Megaton completely breaking most of my Sector Effector effects as it doesn't handle them accurately. Whatever.

i really didn't use any advanced effects in my maps. the only thing out of the "ordinary" is some old style ror/sos sector work and some heavy doses of sprite based construction.

what about grid area and extended grids?

the one i'm having the worst problem with fits in 131072 grid
no corruptions
no "blue" walls that are too long
almost maxed on wall and sprite limit

tried moving around the start position and that didn't help

still works fine with eduke32 - though the lighting/shading is all screwed up cause of so many changes over the years.

Club 97 breaks either instantly or rarely the map will load until you reach the other side of the map http://duke3d.freehosting.net/maps.htm and I have no idea why because I'm pretty sure that map was released before any source ports were made...

What effects? Not normal effects I suppose? perhaps only effects that take advantage of glitches in the original game like the effect you did in my episode cbp map?

The Beach CBP Beta crashes Megaton instantly. Apparently unlike the other crashes, it doesn't even reach the loading screen.

Termit if you're reading this, it's a hidden item on Workshop, but you should still be able to subscribe to it. It doesn't use any eduke32 features or anything.

Clear The Coast crashed the game as soon as I opened the usermap menu for me.

Also, ever since I installed Clear The Coast and even though I unsubscribed to it, now every time I launch the usermap section right after launching the game, it FREEZES the game.
If I want to play a usermap I have to launch an episode of the game, then get back to title, and then select a usermap. That way it won't crash.
