Duke Nukem 3D Steam Community Workshop  "Usersmaps playable on the steam version of Duke3D"

It Lives Readme File said:

Distribute this map in the original package only. Do not include it in any mod, TC,
pack or episode.

When reading this in your readme file I understand that anybody can distribute this map on the Steamworkshop as long as the person uploads the whole thing

EDIT :
So i've decided to upload Sex City (my map, #5 of Metropolitan Mayhem) as it plays fine on its own, while advertising for playing the full episode not compatible with megaton but using eduke32 (with a link to download and installation instructions). I won't upload any of the other maps I made or contributed on from the episode though but at least this one is there to link to the full thing. Plus I consider it my most solid map anyway so I wanted it to be there even though it takes only about 10 mins to beat it.

Now I'm just waiting until they censor the name of the map and I have to rename it to XXX-City

Too bad my 2 mapping specialties are incompatible with Megaton Posted Image

doesn't that just gives him an account without the game?
He still would have to purchase the game to test out his projects

if my maps weren't crap i'd almost be tempted to take up the offer.
There are so many excellent projects out there that should be shared before bottom of the barrel desperation is reached

Well the steam key is the equivalent to someone buying the game for you and give it away IIRC. So no need to buy anything :wub:

So, I think I have found a glitch with the json system.

At first I uploaded Galbadia and Sincenter as singleplayer only, then I updated the json to add co-op.
However they still don't show at being playable in co-op, while Sex City, which I set for both single player and co-op to begin, shows as being playable for both. And I used the same json basis as the updated versions of the 2 previous maps so there is nothing wrong with their json files...

Anyway - I find it funny how map downloads go : it always ends up being the same maps getting downloaded more for some reasons. With the same ammount of exposure, Galbadia got downloaded much less on moddb than Sin Center, and same on Steam. meanwhile, like Lunick mentionned, The Slums of L.A got downloaded a LOT as well on Steam just like on DN-R...

Also do uploading musics as .ogg work? if so, does it have to be named dethtoll.ogg ?

A very important member of this community gifted me the game last night. While I´m very grateful with him, the part where I say I don´t want another task in my todo-list stands.

your reservations about letting someone else test out and post up your map(s) are understandable, but only hurt the (steam Duke3D) community by depriving them of the opportunity to experience one of the best user maps to have been released

btw, someone should post up the Red series

They´re not going to miss that much. The Megaton Edition has no visibilty at all and polymost is forced on it*, which ruins the atmosphere of the map. With this, I still consider testing the map to see how awful it looks and maybe get over that and release it, but you should realize how little desperation I have about that.

*before anyone comes and says they can play the classic game: well it´s the original duke3d.exe running under dosbox, hence maps with extended limits obviously dont work.

I agree that Megaton's lack of a classic mode renderer should factor in wherether to put the map up since maps like Gambini's heavily rely on the old shading tables that the Polymost renderer just can't match. I remember that TX and Plagman have added features to replicate this in the newer renderers, but ultimately there's always gonna be a big difference between how they both look.

I'm not sure why the option to use the classic renderer was taken out to be honest, apart from simplicity and less bugs to fix (which I can understand somewhat)

Yes, they´re fully functional and you´d be surprised how well they imitate the classic renderer. I have been using the usetileshades thingy since TX made it. Plagman´s version is even more true to classic since it also uses the old visiblity, but unfortunatelly doesn´t fix most Polymer problems. With this, if Polymer ever gets past its issues is gonna be an awesome replacement as dynamic lights look like Quake´s with the shadetables!

Can anyone confirm that my map buenos aires explosive remake is playable? I've got a "map is not downloaded yet" message that won't go away, even restarting.

Heh, I've deleted that section... but noticed an error on the map and now I can't update it with a new version.... i'm using the same json file that worked before but now it doesn't!

I vaguely remember reading Methy had a similar problem with updating Galbadia. Maybe he found a workaround?

So I couldn't update the map and now I've deleted it.... tried to upload it again with the new modifications but I've got the message "wrong syntax" again so I won't bother with this anymore.

Can anyone post an example of their JSON file? Mine goes like this:

{
"Title": "Buenos aires explosive remake by DavoX",
"Description": "Hey",
"Type": "Map",
"Category": [
"Singleplayer",
]
}

But it's incorrect it seems.... I've tried deleting the last comma after "singleplayer" but still doesn't work (without comma it works on this site: http://jsonlint.com/)

Hell even the example code given by the devs is incorrect according to that site... (the site was provided by the devs as well...)

I'm baffled....

Looks fine to me. Try creating the JSON file like I did. I just made this video:

And the guy released the map yesterday. It's absolutely great and you should play it. It is however recommended to play it using eduke32 for better shading and in order to have the music intended for the map play.

Review (by me) and Download link at CGS :
http://www.scent-88....s/A/acb/acb.php

This shows that not only Megaton brought tons of new players and attention to our maps, but it even brought new quality mappers. And while Ancient Coffee Bean went back to duke thanks to Megaton, he quickly found out about eduke32/mapster and used it.

You should have sat on it. Sometimes their servers are overloaded (especially these days with the christmas sales) so it takes a while for the map to be playable. I had the same error message, waited, and after some time it worked. Just one thing : make sure you have co-op in your json on first release or then it won't work if you put it during an update (at least it didn't for me).

I would appreciate that. :wub: Like Gambini's levels, they were made with 8-bit in mind, but I don't think the graphical glitches will be too bad (and the old ones don't use the expanded limits). Clear the coast and Red1 should look good in all modes anyway.

Why don't you ask Termit for a free Megaton code then you can upload them yourself?

so what are the restrictions for the maps exactly, what does the megaton edition support ? i do not have a steam account, not even a gamer in the first place besides my duke 3D obsession so i don't even go that site, thus i am out of the loop as far as what the megaton edition really is on the technical side as well - but apparently it is something a wider audience of players have access to, which is an idea that i like, and i do have quite a few maps i would like to share with them. some of them break the original duke 3D sector / wall / sprite limits though, or include new sounds, so i am going to have to make a selection or reorganize their respective archives - i just need to know what is supported and what isn't so that i know where to start accordingly.
