The Beach CBP and Coast to Coast both run fine in JFDuke from JonoF's website. Something has gone wrong with Map Compatibility in Megaton...

Also, ever since I installed Clear The Coast and even though I unsubscribed to it, now every time I launch the usermap section right after launching the game, it FREEZES the game.
If I want to play a usermap I have to launch an episode of the game, then get back to title, and then select a usermap. That way it won't crash.

Shit, I've put a warning on the map not to download it till he fixes the damn problem. (I will hide it when I get home)
Hopefully people will start reporting that it's causing a menu crash and he is forced to fix it quicker.

i didn't upload my levels. i merely dumped them into the maps directory on the hard drive.

i did manage to finish one of my maps in a single run without crashes

If you can edit the description, why can't you make the map "friends only" or "you only"?

Forge I've played your map Duke 12:12 in Megaton, played 27mins until I got the blue key, haven't finished it yet, but tehre was no crashing and it played fine. The only problems I had is that for some reasons some of the sprite letters you used for names of shops and their funny descriptions appeared bigger. Also a Commander kept going through the sprites floor mezzanine, up and down, quite annoying, took me forever to kill it.

But the main issue of that map still is the button "puzzle" in the dukeburger :blink:

That's the map i manged to finish


duke 23:4 is the one that crashes immediately
duke 3:16 crashes randomly - i've had it crash with a few seconds of starting, i made it as far as dropping down the sewer manhole before the game exited
i've only tried duke 6:8 once and it crashed in the large water turbine room with all the sprite girders

i've been concentrating on 23:4 to figure out why it crashes straight away

i think i figured out what the problem with duke 6:8

if i delete the large sections of water down in the river canyon and at the marina, the map will play

coincidentally clear the coast has similar large sections of water

possibly something about seeing too far across the map or having too large of a sector (with it being a water texture)?

Is it the texture it's self or the sectors being tag as a water sector?

iirc clear the coast has the water tagged - at least in the playable area

other than a small section at the marina, the water in my map is just for background scenery and isn't tagged


i'll experiment, change the textures, break up the large sectors. see if i can narrow it down


changed the texture - no fix
broke the large sectors into small sectors - no fix
deleted one of the huge sectors at the beginning of the map thus preventing the player from seeing very far - map plays until the next large open sector is in view then map crashes

likely conclusion - being able to see too far across a map (possibly across too many sector lines) causes megaton to crash

I think you are right because Club 97 lets you see all the way to the end of the map too. Not sure what is causing Micky's map to crash though.

Are you kidding? The Beach CBP is HUGE. You can see the entire map at virtually any time.

The Beach CBP crash is cased by this patch https://github.com/j...10411fce7b02eef We applied it during our work on Eduke32 lighting/shading for Megaton. I found a workaround, so it will be fixed in next version.
Clear The Coast and Club 97 crash comes from original JFDuke, I tried to find why it's happening couple times before – no luck. I will ask TX about it, he probably knows what is the issue.

This is the second time that patch has caused trouble, and porting it to Megaton was something I tried to fix the flashing rain/water/lava bug and kept even though it didn't help. Sorry guys. :blink:

Yeah, it played fine until you looked in a certain direction which I didn't initially as I went down into the canyon. Club97 crashes as soon as the map loads.

tried turning this "new lighting system" they added on the 29th of jan off when testing?

these errors have only been recently noticed a ton lately, maybe its a pal combined with this new lighting system

After close look to difference between EDuke32 and Megaton I found the fix for Clear The Coast and Club 97 crash :blink: Will test a little bit more and will push an update tomorrow. Thanks for reporting about this issues.

Thanks for the update Termit, it works now. I'll try playing through the full map later in coop. Unfortunately there's still the issue with disappearing sprites, but I have confidence in your ability to get to the heart of the issue.

I'm sure it's been mentioned on the steam forums by Drek and maybe others.

Basically on the Beach CBP, it's a very big map and sprites are kinda flickering in and out of the game when you move or look around, generally the further ones away tend to disappear more easily. It's very obvious on the long beach segment. I'm not sure how much extra detail I can add.
