Pretty sure just disabling the leaderboard with quicksaves is the way to go. Generally the type of people who would quick save would be the ones who just want to have a good time and don't care about scores and rankings with people on the internet they've never actually met.

In fact, I'd be willing to bet that the percentage of people who do care about leaderboards would be the minority. It's not like the original game had a leaderboard.

Yep. This, IMHO.

I think the way they chose is a good middle ground.

In this thread: bitching about useless stuff (what else should I expect on Duke4.net anyway?).
If you don't care about leaderboards you also don't care about the score punishment (or you shouldn't), it's simple as that.

Hey, cool your jets there is plenty to bitch about with this game and very well justified. I respect Interceptor for what they tried to do and hopefully with a bit more experience they will make more polished games that we can all enjoy, but until that time they need tough love.

Yes there's things to complain about this game, but score penalty for using quicksaves (that certainly makes the game easier, thus, is justified) is not one of these things, specially if you guys don't really care about score.

We're just saying its weird that they're putting so much effort into having perfect leader boards when not many people care about it. Those who do care about the scores and are good enough to want to prove themselves can probably play the game through without dying and won't need the quick saves at all, especially since the new air control makes the platforming somewhat less frustrating.

No one is denying the game is generally fun between its problems, but it does have numerous problems which constantly get in the way.

I don't care about score or score penaltys. I really can't imagine anyone except the devs giving a shit about their score in ROTT.

I care. My brother cares. I see it as a challenge. No reason to be that arrogant guys, some people do care. I payed 1/3 of what SW costs, however I got multiplayer as well. I have two major complaints. 1. This game is badly optimized. Some maps I run at 250 FPS but other maps such as you mist I get drops down to 60! I mean from 250-60! :P
Second problem was that the game was so bugged at release that I just didn't play it. Why would I play a game that doesn't work correctly.
After 1.1 it's worth more than I payed, however I DO understand people lost faith as selling a broken game is just.. Especially if you are a new company. :P
But yeah 1.1 patch should have been how the game should have been released at. (Sorry for the English I am writing on my phone and I made so many weird mistakes)

Weird, I was just about to ask what was happening with quick saves before I saw this thread was posted in today.

Thank god for that though, it's about time. Now I can finally finish this game when I get some free time.

I can't wait because my current new computer is so powerful to handle this shit without problems but the checkpoint system ruined that at all...and I hope the savegame will saving my current powerup/powerdown like God mode or even the combo count...

Because I found SW 2013 won't save my "style-killing-combo stars" in the savegame, if I kill all monsters but leave one or two of them and save my game then load the savegame, I won't get my Karma bonus in that whole battle when killed that remaining monsters... :P

Surely there must be an option to remove god mode, or at least general powerups?

And in me and Lunick's case, we don't play the death-match because it isn't fun Posted Image

You guys are scrubs. Multiplayer has a high skill ceiling and is fun, except for the heatseeker which takes no skill.

That's the beauty of the system... it's impossible to lose a game Posted ImagePosted Image

I love how Interceptor went through so much effort setting up independent networking thing so that gog.com and steam players could play on the same servers, and then this happens...

Wonder if anyone's actually going to bother modding the game.

They wont. It's taking too long to get it done and their community had fallen apart in a matter of days. Then again, it could bring everyone back. we'll see.

What's Coming in ROTT v1.2!

Hey guys, we've been hard at work on v1.2 and it should be out SOON. Like actually SOON not usual SOON. Meanwhile, I figured I'd let you know what's coming in the update, so you can prepare and hopfully share my corny marketing copy with your friends and family!

Rise of the Triad v1.2 is here and with it come some of the most requested features!

The Ludicrous Development Kit!

Create your own custom maps and mods with over 16,000 ROTTen assets including the complete set of assets imported from the original classic so you can party like it's 1995!
Check out the previously released video of the Classic Editor Mode on YouTube:

Quicksaves!

The most requested feature by the community allows players to now save and load their game anywhere at anytime! Try not to use it TOO often: http://i.imgur.com/B68eYHC.jpg

No More Loggins, Kenny!

Forgot your username? Forgot your password? Who cares! With ROTT 1.2 you will only need to login to our servers if you want to sync your offline saves, post your high scores to the leaderboards or chat with other players via our in-game chat rooms. Logging in is no longer required for multiplayer at all! Now nothing gets in the way of you and your game - not even a few simple mouse clicks and keystrokes!

Dozens of new fixes, tweaks, changes and optimizations!

There are simply too many to list here, but you can read all about them on our forums: [insert forum link which doesn't exist yet here]

How can there be multiplayer without logging in? Are they removing multiplayer DRM?

That's what it seems like. Maybe the pirates can play now?

Since the original ROTT 1.2 (or was it 1.3?) changed the FM timbres maybe they can do the same to their "Classic Audio" with 1.1 FM music, rather than "babbys first winrott experience. dat 2005 nostalga!!!!"....
