Lol, even Doom had more height variation.

I wonder what they where thinking when they decided to have really awesome game models but no height variation.

Devolver Digital on twitter:

"If we were to release Duke Nukem 3D + three expansions with smoother graphics along with the original on Steam how much should we charge?"

https://twitter.com/devolverdigital

They were giving some steam codes for the game on facebook, so it should be out soon, I guess.

I gave them my 2 cents. :P Hope this turns out well. I would of loved it if they released the lost episode in the bundle.

Is it just me, or does that shot of HH have filtered textures but classic renderer distortion?

Ok, I have permission to talk about the game now. Yes I was a Beta tester :P

There is Retro look and there is a Filtered look.
There is no HRP either, the only HRPish things is the hud, the stuff in the hud (like inventory items) and the menu screen and pregame cutscenes. The end boss cutscenes are the same.
DC, Nuclear Winter and Caribbean are in the game and can be chosen from launch. They each have an achievement when you beat them.

As far as what I can talk about, I can talk about what is in the game right now. Nothing about the future.

The main question: can this crappy texture filtering be disabled?

I am so sorry, why don't you teach me with your vast expertise?

I said I have first hand experience in dealing with a C&D. Twice, in fact. Not vast, but enough. Not to mention being witness to the end result of literally telling a corporation to stick it up their ass.

It's not about being scared. It's about the simple realization that corporations like Gearbox, 3D Realms, or Fox, who are notorious for sending out C&D's don't mess around when it comes to the legalities in these kind of scenarios. We shouldn't let the reverse be true of them, either.

View PostFox, on 15 February 2013 - 12:39 PM, said:

That's cool, but it doesn't increase the chance of them facing legal trouble.

Not with the attitude that perpetuates most game sites. The rare occasion when game communities get organized, or Hell even in some cases as simply sending an email with legitimate and valid concerns/grievances they can get something done about it. It's not unreasonable, and it's not irrational.

I am not sure if I like that filter, are they trying to pull a false detailed look? Or is it some loosely compatibility with the new HUD sprites? Speaking of the HUD, I don't really like it, but at least the inventory icon is interesting to look at.

So that's all that's plus about it? filtered textures and an HD HUD? Man that's a disappointment. So far the only redeeming feature is that you can finally legally buy the expansion packs somewhere.

I hope that there are some core functionality additions which make the game more modern such as mouse controlled menus and an FOV slider. I mean seriously, moving between menu options with the keyboard is so 1996.

I think this is great news! This will give a new light and new players for maps mods and episodes we've made, especially if we can advertise them through the community hub!

Bright Thinking!

People still needs to buy the game on GOG for that purpose, or does the game from Steam comes already with the .grp file?

I'm forced to agree with Captain Awesome. Taking JFDuke3D (now without updates for 8 years) and throwing some extra textures on top of it does not impress me at all, probably because the mere existence of such an effort completely eschews all advancements made by everyone who has remained dedicated to the Duke Nukem 3D community over the years (like the EDuke32 team).

The ancient version of Polymost, complete with unimplemented sector visibility, lack of fullbright pixels, no support for the full range of sprite shades, etc is equally unimpressive. I'm just not sure who the target audience here is.

Hey Lunick, I'm feeling nostalgic... how about posting a screenshot with "Duke3D+" running in a 5:4 resolution like 1280x1024 with the player looking all the way up or down? Haha. :P

Edit: haha, I literally laughed out loud at Fox's post. Bravo.

eduke32 will have that relatively soon. Besides, even if Duke 3D+ does have it, it's not exactly a brand new feature.

Maps and mods?

I might be wrong since I'm not an expert on code or the historical development of duke 3D source ports, but I believe that JFDuke3D doesn't have eduke's code functionality, especially not eduke32's latest code additions. On top of this, it wouldn't support maps with TROR, this means that not only the present and future mind blowing 3D maps can't be played, but every map that used even the tiniest bit of TROR for whatever reason is suddenly incompatible.

That means that two of the bigger and more impressive TCs, the AMC TC and WGRealms 2 (not to mention all the other recent mods), suddenly can't be played, because they use both TROR and the latest con code. So this "Duke 3D+" is automatically cutting out a huge and arguably the most impressive and appealing section of user made addons from being played by a new audience, which is a damn shame.

Ugh, if you're going to have the pistol THAT far to the right, at least move the crosshair!

Wait, what? :P

Was that possible? Is that sarcasm? Did my request of this get added to EDuke32 without me knowing? I'm confused...
