Over time I think what has been going on regarding DNF is doing is more accurately described as *taunting* fans. The only reason I say this is that if you stop and think about it, the only discernible purpose of what goes on seems to be personal amusement at the expense of the fans. This is the conclusion I come do based on the facts of people having waited so long, and that the various teasings never actually lead to anything.
I don't know which is worse when it comes to 3DR's management of the DNF project, their gross display of incompetence or the insincerity in their treatment of their potential customership; perhaps the latter is worse, because it is done by choice rather than necessity.
After more than six years of blackout and promises of only releasing media in substantial form and in a proper timeframe out of respect for the fans, 3DR starts bullshitting with fluff like thumbnail screens, teasers with split second 'gameplay' and fuzzy shakycam footage.
As if this isn't crappy enough, George Broussard deems it fit to 'defend' these releases with phony stories that are so transparent only the diehard fans fall for them (or try to convince themselves they do).
I really don't know what makes some of the people at the 3DR board tick; do they like this kind of treatment, are they masochists, or is it a question of wanting to remain recognised as a believer in case Broussard has got an ace up his sleeve after all?
If that's the case, then I don't understand this position either; after all, if DNF does turn out a universally loved masterpiece, then the believers and the naysayers will be playing the exact same game - no behind the scenes footage or extra levels for members of the DNF cult.
Sure, we got some grumbling from the diehards towards the end of last year; "where is our Christmas trailer", "DNF better come out in 2009 or else", but as expected (because as so much else regarding this game plus ?a change) it only took a handful of weeks and a buglist to silence the discord.
What's up with that (some of you) people, why the hypocritical flip-flopping?
Take a side and take a stand.
