Yeah well it's DNF, I still expect it will definitely be big (for a 100 years or for as long as humanity lasts) when it releases. Still that article was definitely an interesting read it sure seemed real though...

Yeah, he better be. Because DNF will last for 1000 years, as Hitler visioned for the third Reich! Why, you ask? Because George's descendants will still be working on it, and hence it will last through time. And our children will be waiting for the game just as we were, with their rant threads now in form of 3D cyberspaces which you can physically enter.

Joe Siegler:
If anything was being released, I'd know about it. I don't know about anything.

Nihilanth:
Like you would tell us.

Joe Siegler:
That's a valid point, but I'm telling the truth. Really.

source: Twitter thread over at 3DR

I'm deeply disappointed now. :)

Seriously...this christmas seemed like the PERFECT moment to release a trailer. Missing this Duke3d xbox arcade heat is just idiotic in every way you see it.

I posted this in the Twitter thread on the 3DR forums.

It is just my opinion but I thought you guys might want to read it as it will probably get deleted (not that I said anything offensive in anyway):

IMO all that George saw twitter as was a reason to create a bit of speculation about DNF again. In all the dry spells of media that we have had (and there has been quite a few of them) these forums were dead. But with twitter all George has to do is tease us by posting a couple of strange images and it gives us desperate and ravaging fans something to keep us at bay with.

Unfortunately we have all wizened up to the tricks. We are aware twitter wasn't meant just for some random updates on George's life, it was about getting us all interested in DNF. I think us fans are a bit sick and tired of being missleaded and left in the dark. Sure 3DR isn't required to give us media but they are in a different situation to other developers. 12 years and counting with nothing substantial to show. I know I shouldn't expect to see media this year but what else do I have to hope for? There is nothing more to discuss other than wild speculation. Everything has been talked about before. What do you want us fans to do now?

And that is why George created a twitter. To re invigorate the forums by giving us something to talk about. Now Joe don't say we are creating all this stuff in our heads about 1up previews and things. Don't say those recent twitter pics weren't meant to tease us and make us search them for secret messages. Because thats what those pics were meant for us to do. If they weren't can you please tell me what they were for then.

Sorry for this rant guys and 3DR but I have never felt this frustration before. I know it is only a game but I have been following this for so long it has become so much more than just another game to me. The idea that duke could be released in 2009 and the fact we could see substantial media (trailer) just makes me want to play the MotherF**KING DUKE again!

I have been playing other games while I wait but they aren't the same. I only have little hope left that I will see duke again in 2008. If I don't see him then what the hell does "Stay Tuned" mean then?

Come on 3DR you guys are my favourite developers. It is time to get your act together.

/END RIDICULOUSLY BIG AND PATHETIC RANT

It seems that this end of the year is kind of like Luke/Emperor/Vader climax in Ep.6.

Luke - we
Vader - DNF
Emperor - George

There is possibility going to a Dark Side for many people(who aren't already there).

Of course, there is always Jan 29th. But it's the last resort.

P.S. Sharpie, I've just answered you there. I hope those posts won't be deleted. Those are valid critique to all that is happening.

Remember the Dallas news crap where Scott said there was an internal push to get the game out in 2008?

Notice its Dec and no news of that yet, meaning that its not happening.

It not being that close to being done is a pretty good reason not to drop a trailer. Obviously the 2008 thing didn't work out, so it wouldn't be bright to have dropped a trailer in June and then have it be December and no game. Then people would probably be complaining just as much now even though they did get their trailer.

So in this case I can understand sitting on the trailer until the end is more clearly in sight.

The biggest reason some people are probably complaining is that Christmas time happens to be known for a time when 3DR gives out some goodies. But now people are being pissy ahead of time and if I were George and planning to release stuff for Christmas and saw that much complaining I'd probably be inclined to just shove it back until February. :)

It's not Christmas. Teaser, "stay tuned". That was one year ago.

looks as if Joe has had enough of the attitude on the twitter thread which is fair enough.

Quote

Look, this thread has really turned into a "gimme media" thread, which is what the sticky thread asks not to do. Please don't make me have to close this thread. Thanks.

I apologised if my comment was taken in the wrong way and to any rule it may of broke but I still stood by what I said. After all the post was about the frustration about the way events have unfolded over the years and all the comments that 3DR have made. It wasn't a blatant post asking for media.

Poor Joe he has had to put up with alot of crazy and unhappy fans lately.

Yeah, I feel sorry for Joe having to endure all of that. I have 0 beef with him and no real beef with George or anyone else at 3DR either. Just some disappointment and most of that is based on how other people have reacted to things like this.

Edit:

Since Laokin's huge post in the Twitter thread at the 3DR forums will probably not last very long, I will say this here:

"I mean seriously in 2006 GB stated the game was almost finished. Further more he elaborated that the last few levels were being finished and that the game was going to polish runs."

Laokin, this is complete, total and utter bullshit. He NEVER said the game was almost finished, he NEVER said the last few levels were being finished and only a lack of reading comprehension can result you thinking he said the game "was going to polish runs".

I hope things will calm down in the twitter thread, even if it's clear now that there's nothing to expect for this year, as well as in GB's twitter thing.

But wtf did GB insist to put this the dnf forum ???? It's like playing cat-and-mouse with a starving lion.

What bugs me is that stuff like this is obviously designed to create interest of some sort, yet we're not supposed to dare speculate as to what. If you're going to have a forum for a project for which there is almost no information, all one can do is ask questions & speculate - and we're not allowed to do that. So what's the point of the forum? I've been saying it for years - the DNF forum over there should be closed if we're not going to be allowed to post about - of all things - DNF!! :)

Nice, twitter thread closed. I hope that it's soon nuked. The attitudes from both side where astonishing.

On DNF forum you can't do much other than speculate, and that's denied too it seems.

The good thing is that Joe didn't delete all those posts.

Also, Monkey Butler's post was spot on.

P.S. Several years ago I asked about closing DNF forums altogether. Too bad the poll was nuked after 20 votes. Can't remember the outcome either.

There should be a thread like this over there, so that people don't have to vent their feelings in threads that are unrelevant. That kinda happened to the twitter thread. Joe is in a tight squeeze between company policy and the forumwrites, he has to go with the policy and disregard forumists for the most parts.

Some wondering aloud on my part regarding Joe's post:

Quote

It's a shame a few people turned it into something it was not. It was intended to be something cool for the fans. Oh well.

This confuses me. It always seems like theres an otherwise good thread and then theres "a few" people that apparently ruin it. Why not just delete their posts and tell them to stay out of that thread then?

Why punish everybody for a few people?

Its kind of tedious ever attempting to have a conversation in a forum area that insists on continuing to exists even though theres no real information to have for people to talk about, but whenever a certain button gets pushed the conversation is over.

It's to a point where a couple non moderators can probably get any thread locked. The conversation can be 100% fine, but when a few people get in and talk about "reg flag" topics for a few post, the other 30 people that were doing fine get fucked and the entire conversation is thrown out.

Like I can understand those "reg flag" topics not being allowed to be discussed because it makes sense. What I don't understand is why the threads always just have to be locked instead of giving a warning, and then if it continues to just delete the additional offending posts and tell them to do it again. If they do, then just do a week long temporary ban or something.

I was going to PM something like that to Joe but he's always been irritated with me in general forever now. Although it's funny cause I joined in 1999, so theres a difference between 16 year old me, and 25 year old me.

Oh, as for the Christmas party, we'll probably have better pictures than Twitter, although I would expect George will post something from the party.

Joe gave us a sign!!! (did he? cause the picture thing sounded to me like they're going to post dnf media from the christmas party)

(then he locked the twitter thread)

Zach, I'm quite certain that's no sign. He literally meant pictures of the party, nothing more.

Also, I'm attaching an HTML version of Laokin's post because it's relevant to the discussions here.

Hey Laokin, I really enjoyed reading your post. It really sums things up really well from the fans' perspective. I invite you to join our fan forums www.duke4.net/forums for further uncensored discussions. We're currently discussing your post here.

With that in mind, I also want to tell you something about Joe. I think he's a kind person at heart, but he's stuck at a job where he has to put up with George's sick antics. I think when he does damage control in the Twitter thread, he's just doing his job. George is paying him to moderate the forums in the favor of the company, even if it means he has to be a mean person in our eyes to do it. It's a price he pays to make a living and support his family.

I believe it's in Joe's interest to maintain a website that favors the fans, given his job at 3D Realms concerns the public more than anyone else who works at the company. As such, I think it's best to direct your full anger onto George, who is the source of the problems.

Damn that was a really awesome post! and kinda touching, it shows that George is really playing us for the fool here. Although I disagree in what he says about the teaser graphichs, I thought they looked amazing! And I completly disagree with what he says about hl2 being an on-rails shooter//

But other than that yes, it sums it up nicely and really gives you a taste about these twelve long years! four, no FIVE stars!
