Doom 3: BFG Edition  "PC, 360, and PS3."

I really don't see why they had to increase the ammo amount in the game. I'm playing the original Doom 3 on veteran and I haven't run out of ammo yet, or had any ammo trouble (I'm a little less than halfway through alpha labs), and every time I've been low on health there's always been enough health nearby to get me at least above 60.

It was my answer to Mr.D's post: "You would have to be a bit late to the doom3 party, to buy it on steam anyway".

Thats ignoring the reason why people buy games for steam.

Got done with Doom 3 a couple days ago. Get this - I got the 'Speed Run' trophy (complete Doom 3 in under ten hours) with only seconds left on the clock. Not a great achievement until you understand that I was being very meticulous for 90% of the game, soaking up all the atmosphere. I was trying to get the trophies for finding all the PDAs and video discs. Failed at that, and knew I had. So while in Delta Labs (already over 8 hours in) I decided to try for the Speed Run. I must have done the bit leading up to Excavation, and the latter itself a million times. With less than ten minutes left, hoardes of demons, two Vagaries and the Cyberdemon had to be killed. Not easy! I was on Veteran, as well. Fuck my life, but I did it.

I've been playing Ultimate Doom on 'Ultra-Violence' since then. I'm on the second map of the fourth episode, called 'Perfect Hatred'. It's completely kicking my ass. Hats off to anyone who's done this one! It's been a while since I've played old Doom. Been getting lost a lot. Shows you how hard these old games are. It's been awesome playing it, though. Best pump-action shotgun in video game history, I say.

I got the Speed Run achievement by just playing the game :| (I never had previously beat Doom 3 because of my fear of spiders)

Based on Steam playtime, I finished original Doom3 in 16 hours...

Well yeah, but I played it before on Xbox1. It was a bit different, but mostly the same.

So, has anyone played Doom 3 BFG with the Oculus Rift yet? The re-release supports it and it seems like one of the few positives about the PC version, other than increased performance and quicker load times.

Really? I didn't know that. At some point I will be investing in it, but right now, funds are ever so tight. :/

So I finished Ultimate Doom! On ultra-violence! Tough game, for sure. I'm currently wondering which part of BFG to play next.

Doom II, Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil or The Lost Mission?

The Lost Mission shouldn't take you too long but you should play it after RoE in my opinion.

Meh, went on to Doom II instead.

Of the BFG edition, I'm actually having more fun with the "No Rest for the Living" Doom II levels. The game was brilliant.

Yeah, well I'm just playing the original part of Doom II at the moment. Had it on PlayStation many years ago, but can barely remember it. I'm only a few levels in, but I just don't think it's as good as Doom. I'll look forward to No Rest for The Living, then!

Just to note, I see Doom 3 on the Steam store again: http://store.steampo...d.com/app/9050/

I believe the game was 20 bucks before?

Doom 1 and 2 are also 5 bucks each so...

That makes the games separately cheaper than Doom 3 BFG edition... what

I meant 'Doom' in general. My favourite is still 'Knee Deep in the Dead' , but the 'new' episode is reminding me of how great it was to play those original levels.

I'm concurrently playing the 'Lost Mission' in Doom 3 and it's fun. There is some good use of the Archvile and you see something other than just Imps during the game, which is to be praised. The level design is very uninspired though - to the point where you can tell that bits have been recycled from the original levels.

The changes they have made to the game have completely transformed it. It's no longer a dark, scary game. No more creeping around dark corridors with your flashlight at the ready. It's now a fast-paced shoot-em-up. Whether this is a good thing or not is entirely up in the air.

I'm gonna differ somewhat. I still think it's creepy shit. You have to bare in mind that you already played it, so differences aside, it's going to be less scary. I do agree it's less scary than original Doom 3 because of the changes, but I wouldn't call it an all-out action shooter game. There's still horror and creepiness. I'm glad original Doom 3 is back on Steam. Not that I play any games on PC, but it was a bit shameful for them to brush the original game under the carpet like it never happened. There's no reason why the original and BFG can't co-exist, is there?

Still tucking into Doom II (not the Nerve episode). I have to say- I love the way the chaingun enemy falls to bits when you kill him. I miss awesome sprite animations.

Off-topic, but I wish they'd get around to putting Duke 3D on PSN. I have it on 360, but I don't have XBL Gold any more and never will have again. I miss co-op.

The Spider Mastermind's death animation (and death noise, for that matter), in my opinion, still trumps any scripted enemy death in any modern game.
