Duke Nukem Reloaded abandoned? "An interesting facebook post."
#181 Posted 29 September 2011 - 02:09 AM
Duke Nukem 3D's lighting may be unrealistically bright, at least in the outdoor environments, but it has a special quality to it that is hard to replicate.
Back in '99 3DR managed to increase the nighttime realism while retaining a certain warmth and colour brilliance despite the added darkness, but I don't see that in any of the post-2001 material, either in their own work or in the various mod creations.
Interestingly though, CryTek themselves got closer without trying:
Still more like how I would have wanted Deus Ex: HR to look rather than DNF or a D3D remake, but definitely closer.

If a release was guaranteed, we would love to continue working on the game. But without a license that allows us to show and share the game with our fans, we have decided to put it on hold.
We don't have a problem with a media blackout - But when the license doesn't secure us a release, we can't justify spending so much time with the development, knowing that it might never see the light of the day.]
Fresch, are you honestly saying that these conditions wasn't clarified for the team when you earned the license? It seems to me here, based on your claims, that the thing didn't happen the way was agreed before. I seriously doubt that you would waste all this time making the game knowing that "the license doesn't secure us a release" in first place.
Otherwise, its just bullshit.
And smells like a dead project to me.

Since you are not involved with the team in any way, It's not your point to make whether it is real or not. Now GBX will be very wary of dealing with any kind of Mod wanting to be taken seriously. Instead of 'sticking it to the man' you've inserted it into the backside of Duke modders everywhere.

That's quite a stretch and you know it. The only people "inserting it into the backside of Duke modders" are working inside Gearbox. Whatever happened to the DNF editing tools? End of discussion.

There, I've modified the links and forwarded them to my Photobucket account. Thanks for the downvote, though!
Not much can be seen out of them, but it could surely have beaten DNF's graphics.

That fresch guy actually had the nerve to try and tell me through PM that the build I had was months old based on the things I reported being broken... funny thing is, all the DN3DR-specific files in it were modified a few days beforehand. I essentially told him I thought he was full of it and was willing to disclose who I got it from in return for the newer build with all these problems fixed (since if he knew it was old by the problems I'd reported, that directly tells me that there's a newer one without such problems). You know, just to make sure the Duke community wasn't getting dicked around by someone yet again.
I never got a reply!

This does not surprise me in the least. Has anyone noticed, that after a majority of forum members called them out on their bullshit, they rarely post here...if at all? What happened to the "big news" that was promised two weeks ago?? Oh, that's right, they were just saying that to make the game sound relevant still. This title IS NOT coming out. Bottom line...

but I just don't like the tone at all. Too much "horror" style for my taste. I think that a more serious aproach is needed (after the clownfest that is DNF) but this is too much.

After was posted here that some artist from the team declared on the GBX forums that was a decision of the team to move up to other project, "simple as that", they couldn't keep the hype alive anymore.

I was thinking the same thing, man. They'll never post here or any Duke Nukem forums again. Although, fuergerstef seemed like an alright guy who fell for the bullshit. I haven't seen him on their own forums in the last several weeks.

This is what I posted about DN3DR previously that they managed to get deleted from here by whining to someone else with mod access:
Quote
There are quite a few Duke3D weapons and items implemented but they're all (barring maybe the pistol, shotgun, RPG and steroids) horribly bugged. I'm talking about bugged to the point of holding fire on the chaingun and having the sound just stop playing after a second or two, throwing a pipebomb, picking it back up, pressing the detonator and having the empty space where your pipebomb once was explode, etc. These are 5 minute implementations of basic weapon concepts and not much else. There's also a complete lack of any interactivity with anything yet, even simple stuff like shooting glass and having it break... pretty much the only possible interaction with the single unfinished map they have is leaving decals on walls from bullets, and those seemed not to work sometimes as well.
If they really flew to Gearbox to present this and Gearbox was somehow impressed, well, heh, I don't know what to tell you about Gearbox's standards. Maybe they were impressed by the models, sounds and textures--which are actually pretty decent, a lot of potential there--but not much else is up to snuff. The unfinished map has potential as well but whoever was in charge of actually programming this thing has clearly been doing absolutely nothing since it was announced.
Anyone with moderation capabilities here who has the nerve to censor my posts on a forum I run is getting fired immediately if this ends up deleted again.

thank you for the post TX - that was the thing i was scared of. I always tried to believe otherwise, but from the sound of it - fresch is just an attention whore.
Sad - and i would happily change my mind if i see some gameplay of a working multiplayer. I don't have anything against fresch and his team - i don't know them - BUT i know quite some stuff about game development.
And it looks like i was right all along
Thank god i didn't join the team and wasted time.

It was merely a distraction for the lack of mod support after DNF's launch. Unfortunately, they didn't think more than a few weeks ahead.
