#61

That guy released a bigger version of City Crackdown. With highres textures for one or more levels. It was called City Crackdown Fragments.
I forgot where I downloaded it. But I could upload it if you guys want.

I would like to take a look at this :)

There you go:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=M60JBC7T

You have to put the Eduke32 port and Duke3d.grp in the main dir AND in the Church/hires dir. Because the Church map uses a different Tiles014.art than in the main directory.

It was Mike von Skellington who released the fragments, not 2Bad, the "leader" of the project.

Just looked up the maps. The level design and the textures is just brilliant. Why this TC have been cancelled?

I just looked at the City Crackdown Fragments as well, and I agree that there's some mouthwatering geometry and textures in there. I sent the guy an email to see if I could try to combine some parts and blast it with polymer lighting. Sounds like it could be an interesting holiday project.

I have version 3.15, which was last modified in March 2010. I'm pretty sure that was the latest one.

Don't worry DT, Forge seemed to have the latest one. Someone needs to upload it to Dukeworld or somewhere secure. I had a look at Dukeworld and couldn't find it in the TC section.

For those who haven't had a chance to check out the City Crackdown Fragments, I've taken some screenshots of a few impressive areas. I don't think these screenshots do the levels justice (they look better in-game), and there are other good areas I haven't captured. Even by today's standards, it's amazingly good.

Who did that map? I remember like two screenshots and one 2d shot of it. Must be the best looking usermap I have ever seen.

Duke Nukem Army is actually already on the Dukeworld server, back from when Forge created a torrent of all kinds of TCs and whatnot that I had downloaded directly to the box. Nobody ever had time to go through all of it and sort it into the Dukeworld directory structure but all of the data is still present on the server.

IIRC the City Crackdown maps were meant for GoD TC in first place.

That would explain it, GoD 2 got cancelled part way through.

The readme says it's supposed to some kind of alternate version of Duke 3D episode 1, kind of like what DNE turned out to be.

But whatever it is, it looks good in polymer;

I got a reply to the email I sent the author (describing recent advancements such as TROR and polymer), and he's given me permission to use it as I like, so I'll spend the next few months tying off loose ends and such. If anyone else is interested in working on this, it could be an interesting group project, but I'm willing to work on it by myself.

Ok I've spent a few hours adding polymer lights, gameplay, and some odds and sods to the first warehouse map from the City Crackdown Fragments package. If you're going to play this, you'll need to download the full pack because of the custom textures. I recommend playing without the HRP, because it hasn't been tested with the HRP, and the map will probably be unplayable due to horrible framerate (it has some pretty heavy lighting).

It's a really fun map to play IMO, even if it has a few empty rooms and needs a touch of trimwork which I might add later. The superb layout and above average architecture by Mike von Skellington, more than makes up for it.
Reminder: You will need a beefy PC, because polymer isn't optimized enough *cough*.

Nice work. I actually think that somebody should take all the fragments and combine them into some kind of mini episode, that would be awesome.

About GoD 2: is it possible that the creator of GoD still has some kind of early version of beta of GoD2? If this TC is dead, it would be nice to release some kind of alpha version, I would like to take a look at this.

Actually, I think that everoby, who ever worked on TC, which got cancelled or forgotten, still has some kind of hidden versions of different cancelled TCs. It would be a good idea to find those people and ask them to post those treasures here, so everybody could take a look.
I know, it's obvious, but I keep thinking about this every time I see this thread.

The host site for the full download must have reached it's limit. I'll try again some other time.

Alejandro Glavic released one of his maps for GoD2, I don't know if anything else exists or even if anybody who once worked on it is reachable (nor who they are.)

At first glance, the warehouse maps look completely different, however the readme states that they're actually different iterations of the same map, and closer inspection supports this, as there are some locations which are common to all four maps. This means that it's not feasible to treat each map individually. Perhaps it might be worth breaking the other 3 maps up in segments and making them into one urban themed Dukebike map?

That looks good, I'll try that download link later (I need to eat right now). Just keep an eye on it if you start combining maps, not only will it impact frame-rate, but there's a chance lights will stop working in-game, this happened to me around the halfway point on my map... Having said that, it was probably due to my incompetence and uncanny ability to mess things up as opposed to Polymer.

I might as well keep them separate and modify the areas that look similar until there's only a passing resemblance. Each map would only take about 10 minutes to play through anyway so hopefully it won't be so bad playing through 4 of them in a row.

I'm somewhat disappointed there's only 4 downloads; it's a solid map, and I invested several hours making it playable. I guess the combined effort of having to download the full package and the possibility of low framerate were too much of a deterrent for most people. I'll just work on the rest of the maps quietly until I've finished the episode, then release it as a complete single file download.

Oh and I thought I fixed the nuke button, but apparently not, because the last time I played it, it wouldn't work. So if anyone plays the map, gets to the nuke button and can't use it, just quit - you've finished the map.

I think it's due to the fact that the full download of custom stuff to go with the map has been unavailable for the last 24 hours from your link. That is why I haven't downloaded the map yet and probably the same reason for others.
