Jhect doesn't read long posts, so I guess this is not for him... but I just HAVE to look at this post. (and I didn't down vote it for reasons)

Ok here is the biggest problem about the rep thing.
Using "problem" suggests the systems doesn't serve some purpose... maybe you just can't see the purpose, or don't like the purpose.
In fairness, the system is "young" too and people might need time to decide how they want to use it. I am positive I have already seem some users explain how they use it and see it has changed.

If you go to the normal modding/mapping/youknowwhati'mtalkingabout section of then you will suddenly get a lot more votedowns, probably because people only upvote their friends.
Maybe I am naive, but there are some wise people here, especially in the mod section. It impresses me to read there sometimes how they can all work together so well. Upvoting friends? This was mentioned before. I am beyond that... or maybe I should say that my friends are those who contribute to the forum, in some way. Like Mr.Comedy, Mr.Fairness, Mr.Responsibility, MsAll the Previous etc... (I realize contribute is subjective, but that is the best I can do and this is already getting beyond a comfortable length for many forum members)

But then you go to the duke nukem forever section. And then suddenly people aren't as pessimistic, and you upvote people simply because you just like the good news. It is way harder to get downvotes in that section.
Aren't as pessimistic? You sure you are on the Duke4 forums?
I read around some posts of yours... I just can't see what you see. But I never post in the mod section, and most of my posts are in the Duke Nukem sections... so maybe there are two different mentality of members in these two places?
With that said... that would indicate a more useful system than I would have guessed. Why? Because what you said suggests the Reputation system is "precise" enough that it allows you to see that how you "post" is accepted differently from area to area within the same Forum System.

Just a small problem i thought i should share
i got about 10 upvotes in one day simply because i only posted in the duke nukem forever section.
Why is this a problem? Sounds like your posting style is more compatible in the Duke Nukem Forever section. <?>

It just proves that the rep system isn't to take seriously.
It might prove that to you... I have been proved nothing of the sort.

And you simply just shouldn't care about it. It only makes your experience here on the forums worse.
I will care about the Reputation system.
It does not make my experience here far worse. It has helped me to better understand some of the members here and allowed the debunking of some usage concepts.

Which means that the rep system really isn't such a good idea.
The reputation system might not be a good idea for some... kind of like jails aren't a good idea for criminals.
It is very subjective I agree. If I was into the fine art of trolling, it would help me find Blackharted for instance. (and yes, I am serious)
