I was in the middle of nowhere Nebraska along the I-80 corridor between North Platte & Cheyenne, Wyoming about 10 years ago. Stopped to get some gas & take a break. There was nothing around but a gas station, a hotel, & a starbucks. Went in and ordered a large black coffee. They looked at me like I just rolled in from the backside of one of Saturn's moons. They had to explain to me their sizing nomenclature; Grande = what ever the fuck size it is & I had to explain to them that black coffee didn't have any extra stuff added to it to make it coffee candy.
Starbucks offers pretentious douche-baggary with their service. The coffee was fine.
They also have the habit of asking me how my day is, and if i'm ok, when I order my Veinte cold brew with 5 or more espresso shots.
Also, asking twice whether or not I want it black.
If I planned to kill myself it would be with caffeine powder and strychnine, not 80 mg per oz shots of caffeine from Starbucks.
then proceed to add ice to it when i say no ice.
water it down when I say straight cold brew.
Well if you didn't make your coffee out of a very low caffeine espresso bean, and burn your beans 1/2 the time when I ask for a hot coffee,
therefore making yourselves assume that all coffee needs cream and sugar,
when in reality coffee never needs cream and sugar,
maybe my day would be better.
I miss Washington, where there's actual competition, people know how to make proper coffee, and Starbucks has a reserve store where they remember how.
In all reality, I need to go back to making my own 30 oz. of cold brew a day.
Once I finally settle somewhere I probably will.
