Well, there's a policy for my engineering degree is that you need 12 weeks of work experience with a professional company in order to actually graduate.

That is a reasonably good policy, in a general sense. Education majors have to student teach for so many semesters in order to graduate, nursing majors have to do field work to graduate (so many hours of clinicals, I think). It is generally a good idea that students get actual experience in the field they are studying, not just book experience. The book will only take you so far.

However, as you noted, the economy is shit...so...that sucks.

In your defense, engineering is something people can "do" on their own. However, if you ever want to make money, you need to know how to operate within a corporate structure (that is, not do anything the right way or at all, as the case may be).

But good luck with all of that.

The Christchurch earthquake is old news, assuming anyone cared about NZ in the first place Posted Image

That wasn't even the point of the post (it's also still not old news btw) but more the fact that Google now allows a new feature to switch between looking at post earthquake and after on the street view.

Also wishing to have an earthquake of destructive magnitude is most stupid to say, because it's not as easy to just get some builders in and fixing it up.
Go look up the apparent old news regarding the rebuilding of Christchurch. There is so much red tape political bullshit going on still it's not funny.
There are still people that are living in homes that they shouldn't be, but they have no choice to because the insurance companies and politics get in the way of rebuilding.

I went from a 486 to a Hebrew Super Computer and I keep running and gunning instead of regenning my health.

I recall seeing a fox on my way home from work.

Edit: Digging around for my phone for 30 minutes (need it to access GMail). Turns out it was under a file folder, which the file folder was on my dining room chair that was pushed in. No wonder I couldn't find it.

I totally agree that it's a good idea for engineers to get a proper taste of how engineering companies work and what they do before graduation, it's just that the policy was created during a set of conditions which are no longer met. (Like I said, it's not just the economy, but the number of students has also increased dramatically, which is ironic because in high school everyone was encouraged to do engineering because they're "desperately in demand all over the world").

If I do get it, it wouldn't be bad at all, because you actually get decent money for it (unless you're desperate enough to volunteer for free). However due to numbers the whole thing just isn't practical. Luckily unlike most people I'm studying an extra year, which gives me a 2nd chance next year if I don't get it, and I'll also be more desirable because I'll basically be an engineer by that point anyway and can do some proper work for the company.

Edit: How do I create a partition with files on it? I.e. I have a 1000mb disk with two 400 folders, and I want each folder on a separate partition of 500mb...

move one folder's data to the top of the current 1000Mb partition sector, the other to the bottom, split the current partition in half
defrag moves everything to the top. the trick is to find something that moves things to the bottom

otherwise make your small partition and do the shuffle files then resize dance

Surface to air missile takes down helicopter in Ukraine... Another weird accident in asia takes over the CNN news feed... Is the next big war starting and are "the media" trying to hide just how bad things look. I told my wife months ago this invasion was the start of something NASTY. She said to stop being silly. I'm not being silly, this is going to get FUGLY over there real soon. Ukraine PM "We cannot defend ourselves. Help." Pro Russians keep taking ground, and now surface to air missile, that ain't no civilian rebellion. That is a real military taking over eastern Ukraine.
