...Almost every Danzig album is a subgenre of metal. Maybe you're thinking of Samhain?

Got my monitor today... unfortunately, the guy that packed it was apparently an idiot and it was damaged in shipping. This seems to happen to me often. The damage is superficial (a few gouges on the bezel and some of the plastic popped open) but it pisses me off that I paid so much for something nice only to have the guy selling it be too lazy to pack it properly. It was literally wrapped in a shirt and thrown in a ragged old box with a couple of those inflatable air cushions thrown on top. The shirt doesn't even fit me. I'm getting a partial refund (65 bucks back) but it's still irritating. I didn't want a partial refund and a scuffed up monitor bezel, I wanted to pay the price I originally paid for a perfect looking monitor. :)

At least the screen came out of it unscathed. The monitor ended up being a bit bigger than I was expecting because I guess the number of pixels per inch is a bit less than the screen it replaced, but it's not so far off as to be jarring or anything.

Had a job interview with a grocery distributor today. For the most part, everything went well, I'm pretty sure I made an A+ impression with the people interviewing me, but they weren't interviewing me for the job I applied for. Instead, they were trying to get me into a merchandising position which isn't necessarily bad, but it is commission. Commission, in this gig, isn't worth panicking over because it isn't sells; for the first three months they train you and pay you a salary of 2400/mo (nearly 1000 more than what I make now) and after that you get your own set of stores that you're responsible for stocking. As long as you show up, order your shit and stock it when it comes in, you'll never not make money. I'm just worried that I'll get a really shitty hand of stores that barely make any business.

In any event I asked them about the position I did apply for (reset merchandiser) and that I was opting more towards that, and they said that there may be more openings, but they weren't sure and would have to check. We talked about it a bit more, and I gave them my (quite sound) reasoning on why I wanted to shoot for that first. Overall it went well and seems pretty promising, though I wish some more progress could've been made.

At work all I hear is the full time staff bitching and complaining all day long. There are people here who I swear never work, they just complain all day.

Yet, all of them make more than I do.

People I work with are usually pretty nice. Most of them work part time though, except for management. Then again it's retail, so that's pretty normal.

I kind of wonder why there aren't more part time jobs in different fields. Perhaps working part time would make people happier. Whenever I search job boards and such, 95% of those jobs are full time.

Ugh. I totally all the time see people who do like nothing but Youtube and play like CoD at work while I'm just stressed and working hard. No fair. >_<

Full-time is the new part-time. I hear more and more about people who work 75-hour workweeks. I work 40 hours a week in administration and even I am planning to get a second job.

Yeah like it's being mentioned, for a lot of people, not even one full-time job is enough to sustain yourself these days. Either way, I'll never willingly step foot into the part-time vacuum again. I've worked for the same suck-ass company for five years, and for the first two I was a part-timer (even though when I applied I specified full-time; they made me part-time anyway). Absolutely awful experience. They'll cut you off at 37-39 hours a week so you're just under the wire. This way they don't have to give you any benefits, and if hours need to be cut, you're the first person they go for.

I'm really hoping I can get this reset job, but even if the commission gig is all that's left, I'm seriously considering it. Nothing would make me happier than to turn in my two weeks notice, because if/when that happens, I know my boss is going to sit me down and try to talk me out of it and at that point I can tell him exactly why I'm leaving. With the way things have been going for me here lately, I'll take my happiness wherever I can get it.

Because having free time is not for you?

75 hours per week means going home from work just to sleep or working every day. Sounds like fun.

Disaster averted. Someone plugged my sodder iron in (presumably not knowing what the plug was for and then just leaving it in even when their desired appliance (VCR maybe) didn't operate) - wondered why I kept smelling burning wood and plastic. Eventually, I stepped on the iron and noted a smell of burning wood and rubber. I unplugged it, but it doesn't get as hot as it used to. It was a £30 iron and I've not had it a year, I want a new one.

When I tell people things like "Never touch ANY of the plug sockets in my house as you may start a fire or disrupt my network." I expect them to listen, but no, nobody ever does, that rule obviously went ignored, the iron must have been plugged in for over 8 hours, several of which the house was empty for with the iron sat on a wooden board out of it's stand, surrounded by paper, fag ends and even a can of lighter fluid.

Rant mode on:

I'm seriously going to have to put my foot down with my friends, they're all peeved at the moment because I succeeded in getting exemption from paying a TV License - I don't like or watch TV, I'd rather chuck a few quid away on a movie I might not like as chances are I'll get bored and watch it again anyway as well as only having to pay for the DVD/download once, not every year. Funny though, they won't pay for the license themselves. Incidentally, I worked out that I only use around 33% of electricity and water here, but I pay all the bills, all the rent and all the tax in full.

I also forbid the abuse of my network, basic rules are; No wireless devices to be attached to the network, no torrents and no excessive video streaming as I can not afford the bandwidth. The Wireless rule has never been broken as far as I can tell and you'd have to go out of your way to do anything with that, but the video streaming... check this out;

I also discovered yesterday that every time a certain guy uses my network he's been seeding torrents. I'd been bugging him about constant network activity for a few weeks. I recently got a 16 Port Hub for £5 so I'll be WireSharking people from now on via the second ethernet jack on this computer - I have my original 5 Port hub from when I first went to Ethernet as opposed to BNC, but I think people might notice 10Mbit/s Half-Duplex. My router is a bit ass, but I may be able to implement some measures against this stuff with my Switch - damn, I love having a managed switch with fibre onboard (D-Link DES-1526), never looked back.

Ugh, well, I'm tired, so I'm going to go to sleep.

Edit: Oh, now, talking of switches, nobody happens to know where I might be able to get the old management software for the D-Link DES-1024F do they? I recently accuired one and it uses a parallel port for management, D-Link do not appear to list the variant I own on any site and the DES-1024 they DO list is one that doesn't have management. I guess I could write to support.

Yes, I'm sure. And it never sounded that heavy to be metal. At least first 3-4 albums.

What classifies as metal, then?

Oh, no. I'm not going into that futile and subjective discussion. Call them whatever you want.

But it ain't black, death, doom/death or thrash, that's for sure. Not that there aren't other metal genres.

Some of his stuff has some Blues Rock elements (Some songs following basic blues tempos/chord patterns, 'She Rides' for one example), but some of it also has a slight tinge of bands like Mercyful Fate/King Diamond (Choice of song titles/some subject matter), but I wouldn't say that Danzig's work sits in one genre alone. It steps in and out of different genres on different songs and at different stages, which I guess is what he goes for. One thing that is clear is that there's a Jim Morrison quality to his vocal style, especially on the first album. At the end of the day, it's personal opinion.

Well, you can't base musical genre on subject matter. It may influence it one way or another, but that's it. I even saw someone called Danzig black metal which was ridiculous.

Very easy to do here. You just inform the powers that be that you're no longer in possession of anything that could be used to watch television. They have inspectors going from house to house every now and then to check whether the people who're not paying the license really have no tv but they have no legal authority to enter your home so you can just choose not to let the inspectors in (let alone answer the door, which no one in an apartment building does anyway).

For me, there's a lot more to life than making lots of money. Unfortunately, some people work to live, while others live to work. I just see work as giving myself something to do during the week to keep busy while making a few extra bucks for the stuff I want.

Most people work because they have to afford things to live off of. Food, clothing, shelther, and of course, new computers and toys! I've asked around, and some people said if there wasn't any money involved, they wouldn't work.

Well, of course, involuntary work without monetary compensation is slavery. But I don't believe people should expect to be given money to live if they aren't willing to work.

I realize that my opinion is contrary to those of some members of this message board and the Occupy movement, but it's the opinion I've held for as long as I remember.

It's all heavy metal, and some of it after the first few albums he experimented with industrial metal quite a bit.

I guess when I asked this person the question, I said, if the world wasn't based off of money (capitalism), would they still work. They said no. I think Star Trek is resource based (moneyless).

Well yeah, but blues is the foundation of all rock and roll. Some people just don't utilize it as heavily as they should (which is why a lot of metal blows.)

Nah. It's just that while listening lots of metal Danzig just never sounded to me as metal compared to other bands. Elemets are there sure, but I never thought about them to the point of calling it metal.

What's a hard rock then, Guns N' Roses?

As I wrote before, I don't want an in depth argument either, but you made a good point here. - I think metal is a loose derivative of Hard Rock, but with an edge. Most good bands use a variety of music genres and I judge them by their songs I listened too, and so did you. Thus you are right, from your perspective.

Guns N Roses - His voice has the chalk on the blackboard affect to my ears. So I looked it up a bit, apparently they fit into Hard Rock and Metal? Yet, we have two major Rock Stations. One caters to Hard Rock and one to Metal. You will never ever hear Guns N Roses on my station (Metal, Alternative), unless for concert promosions, ergo I say they are Hard Rock, mostly.

I made some really good chicken salad last night. It was pretty much a clone of the pecan chicken salad from Arby's, but I think it might have come out even a little bit better than that. I used grilled chicken strips cut into about 3/4" pieces, apple chunks, grapes, celery pieces, a lot of chopped pecans and just enough mayonnaise to hold it all together without resembling soup. Everybody here had it for dinner and loved it, and I think I only spent about 15 bucks on all the ingredients. The equivalent number of sandwiches it made from Arby's would have been almost 40 bucks. :)

Next time I make it I might use glazed pecans instead, and I might also let it sit for longer before serving it. I let it sit for about an hour and a half last night and it was delicious, but the leftovers today for lunch were even better. Must be something with the juices from the different ingredients mixing together and soaking into everything.

I would assume it's relatively easy to beat a mass-produced fast food chain once you have the actual recipe ready.

The "leftover" effect is common, I think the example I commonly think of it with is chili. Mmm, chili.
