You show up constantly in the "Suggestions" thing on mine, it's almost as if Facebook knows I visit Duke4.net a lot.

I tried it out before and spent 0.80 USD to highlight my post and I see no visible difference in the post.

And that is what bothering you?

One of the Newsfeed options is "Highlighted Stories" which is what it often falls back on (despite the fact that you should probably always have it at "Recent Stories" instead). I imagine that if you pay the whatever to "highlight" your story, it shows up there without any help. I've found that the naturally "highlighted" stories are the ones with lots of comments/likes (in other words, the ones worth looking at in the first place).

I ordered some "new" (as in new to me) computer stuff recently. I got a Dell U2410 24" 1920x1200 monitor with 2 years left on the warranty, a Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5 motherboard with about 2.5 years warranty left and an 8 GB set of G.SKILL "Sniper" DDR3 2133 CL9 RAM (the RAM is new instead of used). Going from 4 GB DDR2 1066 to 8 GB DDR3 2133 in my Windows box should provide a moderate performance increase under various workloads and the new board will let me use my existing CPU (a Phenom II X4) for a while longer until AMD hopefully releases a socket AM3+ processor that doesn't suck. I would have liked to build some brand new i7 based rig but I don't know if I could have afforded it even if I didn't get the monitor.

Going to set my mom up with a new computer tomorrow. Time to replace that old 2.8 GHz single core computer she has. It's from 2006 or something.

Does she game on it?

Nope. She's doing some presentations for work, and with trying to stream video and such, the Adobe Flash player was eating up quite a bit of her CPU. I figure if she had more cores it would be better. For one of the presentations, I had to re-encode one of the videos just to get it to play without stuttering.

I just recently joined Deviant Art, but after spending a bit of time on the forums there, I have lost a good bit more faith in the human race. I have never heard such stupidity. We are fucked if this is the youth.

You're not just now figuring that out, are you? We've been fucked for years. Most kids today are frankly idiots... they don't know how to spell, they can't do basic math, they think ignorance and not knowing how to do basic stuff is "cool," and one day they'll be running the world.

"Fucked" is probably putting it lightly.

I set up my mom's computer, although the video card seems to be bad. The screen is all flickery and everything looked all jumbled. Going to return it tomorrow.

Yes that's true, its not just that, its the general stupid Internet "culture" thing, where everybody speaks in memes exclusively and delights in bullying anyone who is not in the in crowd and up to date with fashionable Internet speak. I recently watched a kind of stupid film called "Idiocracy" its about the dumbing down of society and gradual inheritance of the world by complete morons to the point where there is a wrestler as President of the US and they water the crops with Gatorade or some shit and I tell you it seem quite possible if the "lulz" culture does not stop. I'm not familiar with sites like 4Chan and encyclopedia dramatica but it seems these places are seriously influencing idiot culture and the youth are embracing it like its their surrogate parent.
On this site, stupidity is pointed out and ridiculed, which after seeing what happens on Deviant Art is really refreshing. I have said stupid things here and have had it thrown back in my Internet face and I'm glad its like that.

Well, it's not quite that simple. Most of this stuff was created sardonically, but then idiots got a hold of it. Once idiots get a hold of stuff, there's just no hope. If you'd like to delight in more idiots, check out the Steam forums.

Christ, it couldn't be worse than DA forums, could it? I better not check out Steam, I already want to punch too many people I will never meet in the face.

That's true. I like to let people do and say what they want here, within reason. There's something comforting to me about a forum that's run the same way it would have been in the 90's. :)

Yeah, forums that are a free for all attract really annoying people, there is something to be said for moderation, you have to draw the line somewhere. A place like DA has millions of users so they can't contain the shit, that's why its full of shit "artists" and shit people. I have seen people come in here with the "lulz" attitude and they never last more than a day or two, they either leave because they realise nobody here is eight years old or they get ridiculed out the door. Its better to have a smaller more steady community, for the users anyway.
I don't know how forums were in the nineties ( I did not know what a forum was until I started using the net to find out what was happening with DNF and lurked on 3DR) but I remember Mr Blackcat telling me that they were seriously strict as in some places would give you an infraction for not replying and such.

You know that might be an improvement over the current presidential candidates.

Ha Ha, oh I agree, at least on the Republican side.

Edit: Achenar, yeah, I'm not sure a millionaire Mormon would have the peoples best interests at heart, but maybe that just me. Because you know Mormons really know whats going on and millionaires always care about the small folk. :) I really hope I didn't make you think for a second.

Well, that's not the sort of 90's forum I was referring to. It's closer to the free for all situation you mentioned than it is to that. I don't discourage people from arguing with each other or voicing unpopular opinions or anything.

Jesse is a decent guy very rare for that type, but you would hardly vote for Booker T, can you imagine him doing that breakdance in front of Vladimir Putin? Wait you are an anarchist you would probably like to see that!

Can you dig it suckaaaaa!.. Vlad just leaves the room and pushes the button.

Edit: Sorry for the double post but I'm a drinking, so its perfectly excusable to me.

I'd vote for Booker T just because he slips up and says 'Nigga' all the time by accident. (I'm not a bigot, you just know it's hilarious when shit like this happens) I'd probably vote for Ultimate Warrior just because I'm a rabid fan.
