I thought making voxels like that was hard work. According to the video it takes only 34 minutes.

How did you come to this conclusion? The video starts at May 20th and ends an May 27th and everything is in fast foward. It would rather says it took more than 8 hours to complete just one frame of the battlelord. Since this voxel is build from single components, the other frames might be done faster.

But I agree it takes a lot of dedication to to do...

My joke was derived by the length of the video. 34 minutes. I guess you missed it. :D

Native EDuke32 voxel support for addons has been added, thanks to the new ifmatch definition subtoken. It should now also be 100% safe to use the Voxel Pack with any mods since voxels will only be used if the checksums of the corresponding tiles match.

Note: You will need EDuke32 20240604-10578-30deaa520 or later for this. If you do not wish to upgrade for whatever reason, you have to edit duke3d.def to reactivate duke3d_voxels.def instead of duke3d_voxels_crc.def.

So, looking at Cheello's work, am I right in thinking that all of this is behind a paywall on his Patreon? Does supporting him on Patreon get you access to all the voxels he has created so far, or is it almost a pay-per-voxel project? His Patreon contains very little public-facing information regarding what you get when you support him.

The way I understand it, you pay for access to the latest dev build of his Doom and Duke3D voxels. I'm sure the final product will be for free. Nevertheless, cashing in on such a project for unfinished content is pretty... questionable.

I can appreciate the huge amount of work he is putting into it, but I guess it is a sign of how things have changed in the last 10-20 years. I might throw some money at his Patreon. Judging from the updates he puts out, his progress and speed are impressive, though it would be nice if he joined forces with the existing community to work towards creating a single completed project.

hmm .. I don't see why this is questionable when the creator is a honest guy and open about the stuff the creates. I'm supporting him for over a year now and every month you get an updated duke voxel pack with a least ten new voxels. In June he was unable to create voxels due to his relocation for a job and didn't charge for that month. You only have to decide if $5 is worth for what you get.

He is still making profit with content based on a game he isn't associated with. Not sure whether Gearbox (or whoever holds the rights ATM) would condone this, if aware.

Thanks, that's useful to know! I couldn't tell from his Patreon what you were getting in exchange for supporting him.

I can see your point. Its pretty complicated with IP nowadays and especially with the duke franchise. What comes into my mind are all the youtube channels that are related to games, tv shows, movies etc. I'm not an expert on this , but I don't think that gearbox gets a share on the profits when people are making videos with Duke Nukem 3D content or any other IP that belongs to them. If I'm wrong please enlight me.

@LeonV: You cannot make much wrong. patroen subscriptions can be canceled monthly.
