What are you working on for Duke right now?  "Post about whatever Duke related stuff you're doing"

1) Going by what I've seen here I doubt they'd approve of it even if it was done well. Just look at that quote I posted again.

2) Why don't you follow your own advice? What I am saying is I'm rejecting what you said as an analogy or in general. I don't literally think someone is going to show up at my door with a board with a nail in it. Don't be ridiculous.

probably for the best, you'd be first on the list of hrp & polymer users complaining that it doesn't work right

Whatever! No I wouldn't. That's just your assumption...

I made several contributions to the HRP. I don´t hate it, In fact I tend to use it if a map or mod recommends to use it.

And you still don´t see my point, because you are a hater of HRP haters. I get down this train. You certainly haven´t payed attention to all this page except the parts that read "No HRP".

Quote

BTW, I'm not going to play that mod at all. All this drama has turned me off from it, thanks. Sometimes ideological stuff drains out the fun from gaming.

It was going to look horrible anyway. Because it´s not meant to be used with the HRP.

Well I'm sorry I don't have the time to pay attention to every single thing you have ever said. I'm not an internet stalker. What you said to what I said and other stuff I've seen speaks volumes though and yes I get it. I just tried to explain something but obviously it didn't go over well.

You say I missed your point. You missed mine if you think I was going to just use the current HRP as it is with your mod. No I never advocated that... EVER. As for my true meaning.. I've already explained at length earlier and I'm not going to go around in circles.

Your point is you made your mod with 8-bit graphics and insist everyone play it with 8-bit graphics ONLY and they are not allowed to even make a HRP for it even if they had the talent, motivation and time. Is that right? I'm pretty sure it is. Am I off the mark here?

Also, the only time I ever mentioned the HRP to a modder is to let them know how well it worked rather than complaining when it didn't work. Of course though how well it was working was a matter of opinion and taste more than anything.

So it's cool if someone paints over the Mona Lisa in an anime style? Nice.

I'm sorry but that's an asinine analogy that has little bearing as to what I said. That being said, If someone went and defaced that painting it would be a crime and should not be allowed. However, if they took a photo and modified it at home for their own personal enjoyment that's up to them.

It's not a silly analogy, this is their art.

Read what I said and comprehend it, thank you. Also, if you are to be technical they already did some "mona lisa defacing" of their own. Do any of them own the rights to DNF, Duke3D or conceptualized anything of which they are basing their mod off of? They are standing on the shoulders of the original artists that made Duke Nukem. Not that that's a bad thing. We're talking mods here not original art.. certainly not renaissance art.

In reality this is all some various misunderstandings due to poster hard headed-ness on the part of pretty much everyone. So we're going to drop it and play nice. If you want to have a discussion about whether modding a game is okay or not it should go into General Gaming or General Discussion.

If you don't like the HRP, that is your choice. If you don't want the HRP played with your mod, that is your wish for your creation. I agree with you that using the HRP with a sprite-based mod can lead to some strange sights, I'm not arguing with that.

What I don't like, and I have never agreed with, is the amount of hatred levelled at the HRP. They can't just not like it, they have to go shouting abuse from the mountain tops. The moment one of HRP haters lets off with a rant against the project, all the others come out of the woodwork and up-vote him for dissing a fellow Duke modder. We shouldn't be praising someone for insulting others work.

If you shout "NO FUCKING WAY" and refer to someone using the HRP with your mod as "pissing" on it, then yes, people are going to assume that you are hating.

I'm working on cleaning my apartment so I'm ready to go on a trip. That way I can get back to a nice working environment and do some textures in peace when I come back.

I guess that counts.

Geez man, haven't you learned anything from Marked? You need to post pictures! (Marked knows I'm kidding Posted Image)

I recently messed around with the speed-creation of smooth cliffs of the side of a valley. The cliffs can be constructed pretty quickly, but the assumption is that the top and bottom are at a constant height. Now the actually valley floor looks rather empty, flat, and undetailed. Any ideas?

Block the player's movement to the hills and make steeper hills beyond them, you can possibly even cut the hills in half for saved space, so they they're basically vertical walls on the other side. That would allow you to make more hills beyond them easily.

That wouldn't be too difficult, but wouldn't that make the middle bit look even flatter and emptier by comparison? Btw, I don't intend to use this in a map, it's just practise really. The problem isn't so much the cliffs as the empty flat bit the player is on.

Make the hills flat (extending to the edges of the map), then build more hills (with varying heights) on top of that flat?

For the actual player space, don't be afraid to add more height differences, even smaller than the ones you currently have. Then vegetation, rocks and water can help too.

I don't believe that tiles correctly... Posted Image

Anyway I guess if I add lots of small vegetation that could help fill it up quite a bit.

wow! I would never have thought of creating controversy with these words "HRP + Dukeplus" ... :)

Sorry, I did not want to offend Gambini. Personally, I play duke 3d classic and Duke HRP / Dukeplus without any preference. Both are really awesome. I like these two ways of gaming. So I do not care whether with or without HRP.

My aim was to compliment all the work around this awesome mod (without judging anyone). And according to me, I really love DNF from 2011 as much as duke 3d from 1996 since the beginning. I just mentioned my interest for this awesome DNF 2013... I sincerely thought it was a joke because it was so amazing ! So, good news, this is not an April's joke. :P

Finally : Congratulation for this mod (with or without HRP/dukeplus, i don't care). And don't mind for my words "HRP + Dukeplus". :)

I LOVE THAT !!! I don't know why, it reminds me a map from Serious Sam First Encounter (even if it has nothing to do with this). REALLY GOOD ! :)

What I'm getting from this thread with a quick skim, someone said HRP, Gambini overreacted, everyone else overreacted to his overreaction when it should have been shrugged off in the first place with a nice disclaimer about how it's intended to be played. Chill out, geez.

That screen looks nice, Bruno!

What a coincidence, because I'm actually making a Serious Sam inspired episode for WGRealms 2.

Here's some WIP gameplay footage. Gameplay and music is not final.

Well. I´m late to the party as things seem to have cooled down. I insist that my reactions are based on the connection many people insist to make with this and the HRP. I don´t come to the HRP thread to say I hate it or whatsoever. some of the stuff there is really good, like your pistol and most Ozz´ textures -just to call a few-. But it drives me mad that with every project I show/release in which i don´t advice to use the HRP, i have to deal with so many "why´s" that i lose my temper.

And I´m sorry Tetsuo you sense arrogance on my replies. It´s not arrogance it´s determination.
