Eduke32 texture problem

Hi all,
i have been using Eduke32 for quite a while now (since its beginning i guess) and never had one single problem (P4 3.2GHz, 2GB Ram, WinXP, Ati x1650pro AGP, newest drivers). Last week a friend of mine gave me his old PC (P4 3.2GHz, 2GB Ram, WinXP (fresh install), Ati x1950pro AGP, newest drivers) which is about the same as my own, but i can't get Eduke32 to run properly on it. When i start it all textures are washed out, i can't read the menu entries properly. It works when i switch to software renderer, but i'd like to use the hardware renderer (32bit). I also tried to copy over the config files from my old machine, but it's the same. I don't think it's a driver issue because i tried several drivers, from catalyst 8.12 to 9.3. Is this a known issue? Couldn't find anything about it here in the forums.

thanks in advance for help

Harlock

I had this problem, make sure your CCC Standard settings are on Balanced or Higher.

Argh, i don't really want to install CCC, just hate it. I always only install the video drivers without CCC. But i'll try... :P

Unless you install CCC your graphics in games are always going to suck.

Well, not really. I haven't had CCC installed for quite a while now and all my games look perfect, and i have many of them installed... :P
CCC didn't help with Eduke32 though, so back to the drawing board... :P

Sorry if i bump this thread, but i have tried everything possible to get Eduke32 working with my Ati x1950pro, but all i get are washed out textures and a menu text i can hardly read... any ideas what's causing this?

Edit eduke32.cfg or dp.cfg or whatever name has your .cfg file:

[Screen Setup]
GLTextureQuality = 0

The GLTextureQuality = 0 sets Texture Quality to max and solves such problems.

It's a problem with the ATI driver's, your going to need to backdate quite a few all the way to 8.8 (with CCC) any drivers after 8.8 (or it could be 8.9) cause these washed out textures.

So well, no. It hasn't anything to do with the drivers. Actually i found out thanks to supergoofy. It's GLTextureQuality and GLTextureMode. Both have to be =0 to work properly. Thanks!!!

GLTextureMode = 3 enables Bilinear
GLTextureMode = 5 enables Trilinear

Try with either Bilinear or Trilinear, to see if one works. Logically Bilinear should work fine and improves image quality.

Uh, yeah, that does make it a driver problem. By definition, ATI's shitty GL driver failing to correctly perform standard GL operations like texture filtering is indeed an ATI driver problem.

I believe you TX, you should know. But why does it work on my other machine with the absolutely same driver, OS, Setup and Hardware and a slightly different card (x1650pro instead of x1950pro, both AGP) then? I now changed GLTextureMode to 5 in the cfg as suggested by supergoofy and it works great.

I also have a X1650Pro AGP card. I noticed that when I was trying out earlier versions of the Catalyst drivers to get my sprite issue resolved in Polymer (which isn't resolved yet, unfortunately), Trilinear and Bilinear texture filtering actually worked better than the latest drivers. With the latest drivers the textures look slightly misaligned and there are jagged edges to things like screen fonts and sprites.

ATI sucks. Somebody please send me a good nVidia card for free! :)

OK... I'm trying to play Duke Nukem with the HRP project already loaded... haven't played it in a while however I have the latest files and the latest snapshot (apparently March is the latest one???) and I've deleted the texture cache...

However I'm getting the slimy tile texture every time an explosion, decal or fire is displayed. Any chance we can get this fixed????? THIS REALLY PISSES ME OFF!!!

delete cfg files (if exist)
delete textures folder (if exist)
delete textures and textures.cache files (if exist)

retry and try the tips I wrote in my posts above
