grp  "what is Duke3D.grp?"

What does Duke3D.grp stand for? Does the grp stand for graphics rendering protocol?

LOL no. It's a group file. A grp can have a bunch of files of different types inside of it, it has nothing to do with graphic rendering.

Grp stands for group.
Think of it as some kind of zip file that contains lots of other files like sounds, maps, music, cons, artfiles, animations and several other weird files that the game requires to run.
