I can't wait! It sounds like it's going to be interesting, it'll be nice to finally hear something, no matter how little, about the next Duke game. I would like to hear something about the movie, but that's probably not going to happen.

Let's wait and see what'll happens on July 7...and hope it's not other disappointment again...

I'd very much rather have a brand new well made Duke game than some more info about a old unfinished build that was mentioned here to be mostly scripted stuff.

-Release a downloadable patch to restore the sound FX files to the original quality (but maintain the re-recorded music and dialogue) for the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Duke Nukem 3D 20th Anniversary World Tour.
-Create a true "Definitive edition" of Duke Nukem 3D that includes all expansion packs from the Megaton Edition, the Duke 64 port, and a full-fledged remake of the game in modern, photorealistic Unreal Engine 4 visuals, with the chance to switch between it and the original Build Engine visuals like the Halo remasters.
-Allow the Xbox 360 version of Duke Nukem Forever to be compatible for the Xbox One.
-Release earlier builds of DNF as playable material.
-Create a new, reimagining rendition of Duke (but still with Jon St. John's voice) for the next game, in the vein of the Shadow Warrior, Doom and Wolfenstein series.

This. There's just something about sprite / pixel art games that make it age graphically way better than the "early 3D" games. You see the same with Street Fighter 2... which still holds up today, while Tekken 1 on PSX has aged terribly.
Sorry, went a bit off topic here
Anyway, really looking forward to the interview / discussion with Randy !

This. My idea of an open Unreal-based mod, sort of like what Reloaded was originally supposed to be about. Failing that, see if you can get him to commit to supporting modding on whatever new title they are developing. Everyone here is very cozy in their little bubble, but that bubble is shrinking. The DNF betas are not going to bring a lot of new talent into the modding community, not unless they can hack it to run on a more modern version of Unreal - hmmm, there's another idea.
There is a lot of support for Duke. If you look on Polycount, or any website that mentions Duke Nukem, there is a lot of positive feeling towards DN3D and Duke in general. You need to have some avenue where these people can feel they can get involved and not be wasting their talents.

1) A proper, 3 full new episodes with different layouts, a couple comple new proper enemies (like the aweasome netherdrone from the Atomic Edition) (unlike the WT one) with 3 original, cool final bosses that fit the context (like the Atomic Edition episode with the blue mother alien) (unlike the cyclops emperor of WT)
2) A ROBUST netcode just like the modern source ports of Doom have like Zandronum so people can easily gather and enjoy coop and DM in the included or user level maps
3) Polish the source code so the input feels tight (the mouse feels responsive and so on). We dont really need fancy graphical gimmicks, the build engine looks fantastic in modern resolutions. The graphical additions of WT are great but I think its not properly optimized because it takes way too many resources to get smooth fps for a 1997 game with some graphical revamping.
4) Make mappers and modders have all the tools needed to do their job to share and play with the community
thats ALL. thats all we need to keep DN3D community alive. The reason the Doom community is huge and its introduced to milenial kids its because you can play online with no lag, and you have all these constant stream of maps and new mods. Brutal Doom has popularized retro Doom again.
But Duke always had trash online play (sorry its the truth, the netcode has always been terribly bad) so it never got anywhere. It also never got legit oficial good content since the Atomic Edition. I guess you can count Caribbean Edition which was a pretty cool mod.
The WT had really good moments but it doesnt feel like a new SOLID episode. The final boss is a complete joke and the new enemy is just annoying. With more time spent on existing maps and a couple more maps added + better new enemies, it could have been a really good and solid episode.
I wish we could get a proper repackage of DN3D with 3 new episodes to give people incentive to buy the game instead of having yet another copy of DN3D on their steam collection with barely no extras that we haven't seen before a million times (and I would rather have new DN3D episodes than some unreleased old stuff..).

1. Fan made mods.
2. Hopefully eduke soon.

All I'm hoping for is enough good will tomorrow to make this an annual or even bi-annual event.
That way, not all questions need to have an answer, and there is room to grow.

If there is a list, some things I'd like to see put on it are:
- Stress to Randy that Jon St John needs to be directed, preferably back in the teeth grinding Clint Eastwood style with the charisma, no more letting Jon do as he wishes.
- Talk Randy out of the Duke movie or at least into a CG movie, there is no way a live action one will work.
- Make sure he knows that with Duke's character they need to start at 80s Action Hero and be built around that.
- Stress to Randy to keep Hashtag and Meme humor/jokes away from the franchise.
- Make sure Randy knows that Political Correctness or feminism cattering is a big No No. He needs to have thick skin when he markets the game and Anita Akbar worshipers go nuclear.
Duke Nukem being made by the same company that put "Feminism is Awesome" in their game makes me feel sick.
- I know we all want mod support, but since 2K is likely to be involved and 2K is part of Take Two and the whole thing that just went down with GTA mods and Take Two, I don't see Gearbox caring enough to fight back like Rockstar did, but by all means discuss it with him.
- A good idea is to tell Randy that Duke Nukem doesn't have to be restricted to high budget First Person Shooters, I've always seen the Duke franchise as multi genre so they could easily make low budget Duke games to keep fans happy until they can make the next FPS Duke. Yeah we all want to see Duke Nukem 3D 2, but do any of us believe Gearbox are capable of that?
- Mention the Demolition Man concept, please!
- I can't stress this enough, tell him to have a long hard look at how they price their games!

Agreed they should direct JSJ (who is the man!) to do more of that badass voice. Even though I like his performance in World Tour better than most on here, the stuff from Bulletstorm is not Duke enough by far.
- I like the idea of a live-action Duke movie, it could easily work. Many creative and fun movie makers are out there. It wouldn't be exactly like the games but that's okay, adaptations can be fun because they adapt. Neveldine & Taylor (the guys who did Crank and Gamer) I could see pulling it off, or Robert Rodriguez (Desperado, Grindhouse Planet Terror, Machete, etc). So many could easily pull off a great fun Duke action movie, and plenty of actors could achieve something like Duke's delivery and attitude. (JSJ is always the voice of Duke though, never replace him in the games)
- The next Duke FPS (I think of it as Duke Nukem 5 or other cool title instead of Duke Nukem 3D 2), I'd like a full on new game. Can Gearbox can pull off a high budget Duke game? I'd like to see it tried at least once, sure. They also mentioned a year or two ago they might get outside help there, so as owners of the IP they could hire plenty of cool devs to do it or help with it as well. I agree with you on more Duke games including lower budget ones along the way would be fun too, more games the merrier.
My personal take on a new Duke game's concept, back to basics. He starts out in a sleezy LA bar (he owns a more modest pad there because why not), maybe you can play poker with a couple cool babes or something, and mess around with throwing darts or something, but have aliens attack without warning, within 5 minutes. Get right to the action with a much shorter intro than Half-Life and DNF etc did, kind of like the new Doom, get you off and running right away. We can find out how the new aliens are different or whatever later on, and go wherever along the way.
On a question for Randy, my one question/comment, please don't make the next Duke game a "reboot" or "re-imagining". The concept and character is evergreen, like James Bond which didn't get rebooted for many decades, I don't think we need a Duke reboot or continuity restart after just two FPS games. On stuff like Duke running for president at the end of DNF, could just not revisit that. Maybe he did and they voted for a politician instead, maybe he changed his mind, doesn't need to be brought up even. They could make any new Duke story without really needing to reboot it.
I'm always excited for a new Duke game, but if it was a Tomb Raider style reboot where we're just meeting a "new" Duke for the first time, this would be appalling to me. Ditto for the prequel idea of Duke Begins that was rumored all those years ago, I think the concept is terrible, but everybody has their opinions here. Since Duke's concept is he's an experienced badass who's kicked ass and saved the world before (even in the hit game Duke 3D), starting over and having him inexperienced in kicking alien ass just doesn't make sense.

Indeed. Don't infest Duke with meme/hashtag/sjw-approved shit.
You can't cater to the "PC" or "SJW" types because they'll never be happy. You'd have to change Duke Nukem to the point that it wouldn't be Duke Nukem. It'd have to be something like 'Undertale'.
A Duke Nukem game should never be made with them in mind. They should be ignored completely.
#297 Posted 06 July 2017 - 11:09 PM
But like others have mentioned already, Duke doesn't need to involve politics. He's a badass macho guy who is into chicks and beer etc, this is his character. It's fiction, there's nothing more offensive about it than again say James Bond being into several chicks in one movie etc. And GTA is the biggest selling game ever with strippers, all sorts of crazy offensive/satirical humor, Duke is as viable now as ever.

Indeed. EDuke32 is definitely the future of Duke Nukem 3D. A source port made by and for fans that is regularly updated. Once Alien Word Order is fully compatible with EDuke32 (firefly, incinerator, ...), there is no more need for WT....
However, this doesn't mean Gearbox shouldn't fix their own port.
