Elite Force was awesome. Still play it every now and then. That and Jedi Outcast/Academy.

Nowhere near as good as Quake 1 and Quake 2 though. And it could have used a killer soundtrack just like Quake 2's Sonic Mayhem tracks.

In a sense, it is somewhat of a retcon of the Stroggoverse. The Strogg in Q4 are hiveminds whereas the Strogg in Q2 are individual beings. There's also a few other inconsistencies with Q2, but it's mostly brushed aside by "we thought x, then it turns out y" or "y is actually part of x".

Quake IV was pretty solid too. Strangely enough my brother was the one who busted ass on that one. I lost interest after the mech battle. Still, there was nothing nessacarily wrong with it, I just missed the way things were in Quake 2 and would have preferred something closer to Quake 2's feel. Including and especially the music.
However, the beast game made with Doom 3 tech would have to be Prey. Hands down. They did such a wonderful job getting the most out of the engine.

The "push it to the limit award" for id Tech 4 goes to Raven Software because of Wolfenstein 2009... but we don't talk about that game because it was the mutant child of console and PC FPS.

We don't talk about it because it doesn't have kickass portals and gravitywalks and all that other stuff.

Not the first time he's claimed this either.

I play it, it's pretty cool, well worth checking out. Could still use some work, but I think they did good. Haven't bought it I'm still playing the free version since I played the beta, but will most likely buy it. Not quite as fast as Quake 3, but I like the feel of it and it's just some good solid Quake (plus stats and abilities that don't overpower to me). Deathmatch is especially good.

Next on my schedule is Wolfenstein '09 and then Singularity.

Haha, I'm kinda doing the same thing. Recently finished Quake 4 for the first time. And now I'm playing through (old) Prey. Really loved the opening from Prey with the song from Blue Oyster Cult.
Of the id Tech 4 games I would rate Doom 3 the highest though.

I played this one a little, and the second on too... a little too awkward when it comes to shooting things (especially in the second one, where you're using one-shot rifle most of the time... frustrating!). It could be such a decent game, if only devs did notice that stabbing stuff with knife is almost always a better option than using guns.

I like to tune in the Judas Priest's song. You have another thing coming, indeed...

Imo this is exactly the kinda thing that Randy is looking for, a way to have Duke be seen and heard without it being a project where Duke is the main focus, or one that would require massive funding because of Duke.
Think about it.. Here is this game that represents what Duke is known for (fastpaced action) where the other classic fps heroes are already in. Wolfenstein's BJ, Doom's Doomguy and Quake's Quake Ranger. Duke would feel like at home, because he could move fast and carry all the guns and even be able to do that something that he got used to in DNF, rocketjumping.

Indeed. I like this idea ! All those 90s action stars in one game. He'd fit right in.

@leilei I guess you're sick of this question, but will there be another version of engoo?
#504 Posted 06 September 2017 - 10:01 PM
It was still a learning experience though, but not something I'd want to try and satisfy a broken fanbase with anymore. Doom's in a far less dysfunctional state than Quake, and Engoo's even more known in the doom circles (and understand its point better)

Honestly it would be a better idea than Bulletstorm, it might even be a fair bit better integration, at least it's his kind of fast-paced death match. If they could drop in a few unique weapon skins too, then it would be fitting.

I agree. Putting Duke into a Quake game would make A LOT more sense than putting him into Bulletstorm or ... apparently in a MMORPG called Wildbuster...
Along with Blazkowicz, the Doomguy and the Quake Ranger, Duke is one of the most iconic badasses from the 90s.
