Sadly I won't be getting Youngblood. Too much crap.

But for some reasons I really like the 2009 Wolfenstein, despite the fact that it mixes too many things in one game. I like it even more than RTCW, which never has been my cup of tea. And I just love the sound of the MP40 in that title.
You mean you didn't want to fight robots in the new Wolfenstein games?
They actually only make up MAYBE 20% of the enemies you face, even less depending on which game.
I thought 09 Wolf had a great atmosphere. Really reminds me of Indiana Jones or the Brendan Fraser Mummy movies. Would've liked to see Raven go all out on a sequel, especially considering their fate now is just Call of Duty maps, but such is life.

Yes, I don't like the robots in these games. I don't like mutants either, but I got used to them. So how many robots are there in the New Order?
Wolfenstein 2009 had indeed a great atmosphere, with a feeling of continuous danger. The old king Heinrich the 1st was a douche and I really didn't care. Besides that it was nice to see the id Tech 4 in action again, with all these medieval elements representing what could be done in the Heretic/Hexen universe.

Going based off memory, I could be wrong about some of this.
New Order - Robots were typically either bosses or mini bosses or scripted events (like being chased by a giant robot dog). Some levels had no robots at all, some might've had at most maybe 3
Old Blood - Giant cyborgs with miniguns make up most of the first level, after that there might be like 1 or 2 for the entire rest of the game
New Colossus - Quite a few robots, some of which become regular enemies they throw at you. Some of them remind me of the T-800 exoskeleton that can teleport all around
Youngblood - Has the most robots. Most enemy spawns are random with robot enemies being one of the possible spawns
Old Blood is definitely the most like Wolfenstein 2009, without spoiling anything. The first level is a slog to get through but after that it really picks up.
You also don't need to have played New Order to enjoy Old Blood since its a prequel. It also has far less cut scenes and breaks in the action than the rest of the games

Does the game get any better?

Mods like that are really important, I think. They're a way to somewhat preserve multiplayer-only games. Don't get me wrong; they're hardly a perfect substitute. But multiplayer depends on other people playing the game, and it's inevitable that will stop eventually. SP mods are a way to at least preserve the assets in a way that resembles what the game plays like.

That said, if whoever doesn't wanna host the mod as it is, that's their prerogative. I just really hate messing with people's creative vision. Makes me lose respect for everyone involved.

Looks like they might even have to replace a boss because the artist isn't ok with them intending to change his artistic vision (breast shown in ONE F'ING FRAME of the death animation), and rightfully so. I mean FFS, they even complained about stuff that wasn't used in the actual game at all.

BTW: Posting basically the same thing I wrote above over at Doomworld already got me into the crossfire. Just tried to be constructive and telling my POV in a very civilized manner, getting the shit right into the face already, lol.
Anyway, there are apparently controversies about the way Torm handled the criticism presented to him early on, also by playtesters, which is admittedly stuff I don't know anything about, so there might be more to it than what I can see right now. Oh, and it seems they banned Torm from Doomworld already, indefinitely.

Anyway, they are going to change all this shit now, it's not going to be the same any more and actually I guess those feeling offended won't even touch the revised edition once (if?) it gets released, out of principle, pride, stubborness or whatever. The damage is done.

Am I the only one seeing the irony in removing any references to the Holocaust and changing concentration camps to prison camps?
#322 Posted 09 June 2021 - 07:36 AM
I don't think they should change the game. Max thing I would have done is put a disclaimer screen a la Disney, stating s.th. like "Hey, this is our artistic approach to the topic, no harsh feelings intended. If you don't like this level, you can skip it by pressing key x now or quit the game entirely, your BoA team." That's it, take it or leave it. Ofc we can also pretend WW2 and all the shit that went down there never happened, but that should not be the message that should come across in a game with this historic scenario. And yes, actually removing these references is making it only worse.

To be honest, some of the things definitely need to be changed. For example, the Randi Heit character (a character in the game who's a tribute to the prominent transwoman in the Doom community who created ZDoom) should definitely be changed she is deadnamed and misgendered and the character named after her is also a shitfaced drunk who jokes about his huge dong. Similar story for Enjay's (another prominent Doom memeber) character.

Something that was completely unnecessary and done without the permission of said person. Not to mention, its the person who made the source port (ZDoom) that Tormentor and co. used to create their artistic vision.
