Ion Fury "formerly Ion Maiden, launching August 15!"

Only one thing... does it really have to require Steam to be installed to run or is that only on this preview version? Wanted to clarify this so I know what I'm getting into here.

If you got it on Steam, yes. The version on the 3D Realms site is DRM-free.

I've told you there will be a demo! Nobody beelived me!
Bought the Early Access version without any thinking, despite the huge-ass price.
Judging by the trailer, I like the Shelly's voice already.
EDIT: 64-bit only? That's bullshit, I can play it on my laptop only

Right on, I'll blag the Steam refund system and get the 3DR version instead - wish I'd known about that beforehand, but oh well. I'll just put it down as a system-specific issue if I can, hopefully doesn't leave any black marks anywhere.

-Feels a lot more Apogee-ish than 3D Realms if that makes any sense, mainly in terms of sound effects and general presentation
-The lack of auto-aim broke my brain for a while but I kind of got used to it eventually.
-I like the glass-cannon design of the enemies, it used to irk me a little how much the Duke enemies were bullet sponges, so having most of the baddies go down in one well placed shotgun blast feels good.
-Very, very nice level design, DUSK should take notes here.
-Kind of hard to distinguish pick-ups from the scenery, but I'm probably just too used to the Duke items so far.
-Minor capitalization issues, 'ammo for Loverboy' as an example
-All the weapons have their use, although the grenades are a little awkward to get used to.
-Kickable heads are cool
-Nice spritework in general, and the skyboxes are great.
-Nice voicework for Bombshell, although I still have no idea what the baddies are saying. (kind of sounds like 'get down on the floor!')
Overall it plays and feels really good right now. If I could change one thing I would highly suggest adding some sort of visual indicator if the breaker box switches are on or off. Duke's had a big green light turn on if they were activated, while in Ion Maiden on two occasions I found myself second guessing myself if I had pulled one yet or not.

The end boss fight was rad as fuck, loved all the destructible environments.

If the DRM free version is purchased from the 3dr site - will the early access preview version be upgraded to the final version when it's done?
I'm not a frequent purchaser of video games, so I'm not sure how that would work.
(i.e. back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, plutonium pak had to be purchased)
Is there a difference in monetary distribution? If the game is purchased at 3dr, will voidpoint still receive the same amount as if it were purchased on steam?

We get more if you buy it from 3DR. All purchases of the early access version get upgraded to the full version later this year, indeed.

A free demo could potentially spread word of mouth about the game much further and make people more eager to buy.

* Close background applications, particularly anti-virus, browsers, etc.
* Disable vsync
* Raise or remove the framerate cap
* For hitching: Disable Palette Emulation. Lower or Disable Anisotropy.
* For Nvidia users enable Multithreaded Optimizations in the NV Control Panel
* Please make sure that your CPU performance mode is set to its maximum.
* Due to texture and audio streaming, faster drives like SSDs can lead to better performance.
Classic video renderer issues:
* Enable Pixel doubling to raise framerates.
* Set your resolution to 720p and below if performance remains low.

Any tips on why is it running like some trashy console port? How to solve it? I refuse to believe that a Build game should run this badly in 2018. Not using the classic renderer of course.

Turning on threaded optimization in the control panel solved most of the drops (it was on automatic though so dunno why) but I'd really appreciate some smooth, low latency vsync (which EDuke32 does not have so it's just as bad in Ion Maiden too) and more options when it comes to frame limiting because performance is fluctuating wildly which results in hitching, stutters, tear lines all around the place = a quite bad gameplay experience.
Too bad because the gameplay seems awesome, it's just a technical mess.
Edit: Setting the fps limiter to 144 helps but I'd really like more options, most preferably a fully custom value like in BloodGDX (I don't remember exactly if EDuke32 has that option).
