Shelly and the game are supposed to be a spiritual successor to those kinds of games and their heroes so she should have the action figure look.
We hardly ever looked at those guys during the games yet their designs along with their personalities helped them become legendary.

Put this Shelly in a line up with them and she looks way out of place.

If Shelly's personality is all confident and witty in this game then that outfit won't compliment her character at all.

My guess is the actual in-game sprite will look similar but not an exact copy of the above pic. Its probably going to look just fine. Why go negative with your speculation? Wait until after you see the real thing.

I'm just judging what has been shown and what I know about Shelly from Interceptor's game and I'm not feeling it.

I've been wanting some cool new female leads for a long time now, ones that don't fall into the "well written", "realistic", "feminist role model" or even just generic solider crap.
Just some cool action ladies in the vain of classic Lara Croft as she's been killed by modern gaming.
Classic Lara wasn't just some Double Ds that walk like everybody says, she was a kick ass female lead who had fun doing what she did, had a fun personality and it was complimented by her outfit and signature weapons, I kept wanting more of her.

Currently I can only count the amount of badass and cool female leads in gaming on one hand if I had an accident that made me loose 4 fingers.

I was hoping Shelly would break the trend, but based on appearances it doesn't seem like I'm gonna be wanting more of Shelly.

I'll wait to see what her personality is like before I make a final judgement, but so far it seems I'll just have to wait for Bayonetta 3 for a kick ass female lead.

(Keep in mind that I'm only talking about the character here, I'm not saying the game will suck or anything, I'm counting on it being awesome.)

Not really. Many game studios put an enormous effort in creating the main character for the game, especially in cases where the look and the attitude has some meaning to the game. Imagine Duke Nukem as an normal boy-next-door with a less rude attitude. Think about why Core Design designed Lara Croft the way they have done.

And from my perspective the change in the design of the bombshell character was the dumbest thing, interceptor have done while creating their game. From a greater than life woman, a female counterpart to Duke Nukem to a generic sci-fi girl with zero personality.

So you basically want something that is more sexualized? I think that would be pointless here.

Why does Bayonetta look like a high class escort? Because she is using her sexuality, being sexualized is a character trait for her, she likes being sexy.

Why does Cate Archer look like a sexy lady? Because she's a superspy, being seductive is part of her job and his character.

I don't see how something like that could fit Shelly, I mean she's there to kick ass, not to seduce her enemies. Making her look like the original Bombshell would be like the boob armor in Japanese MMOs: it wouldn't make sense.

And really if you look at Duke it's easy to see why the flashier look make sense for him: the dude is an egomaniac, he's all about machismo so of course his appearance will stand out.

I use the F7 view mode to look around corners - this is a seriously overlooked capability of this feature that nobody ever seems to mention or use, it is especially useful in Blood with those damn monks.

As it is, we're supposedly gonna have access to CON and stuff anyway, so if something minor like that is missing we could just put it back in ourselves anyway.

Didn't you read any of my other posts? She doesn't have to be skimpy or sexualized, in fact she can't be cause Interceptor wrote her character into a corner in the last game by making her a generic and unlikeable bore.
But this takes place before that mistake so she can changed a bit.

Bayonetta's sexual nature is part of her character which is one of the reasons why I like her, but it's also cause she's a kickass character, a character that is so much fun to watch and play as and a character that I want to see again so bad. She's pretty much the female version of Dante from DMC who I also desperately want to see again.

What I want from Shelly in this game is for her to make me want more from her like those characters, make me like and enjoy her so much that want to see her again, beg for her return like I do for Duke because he's a character I love, doesn't matter whether he's in a side scroller, platformer or adventure game, Duke himself is the reason why I love the franchise and play every game in it, I want that for Shelly, I want her character to truly deserve the title of Ion Maiden.

Also it's not just Duke who has the stand out design, pretty much all the famous heroes of that period have the stand out look, Duke is Red, Doomguy is Green, Lara Croft is Blue, Freeman is Orange and BJ is Yellow(now at least. Before that his famous design was shirtless).

All their designs had color and personality to them which made them their characters.

When I look at this:

I just see a generic female GDF soldier, not the Ion Maiden or Bombshell. Still I hope her personality makes up for it.

At least the suit doesn't have a helmet and visor like most of them do now. Personality, that's the important part, character has very little to do with appearance, Duke really looks generic as all hell (and was probably supposed to) when you think about it and people still remember him just fine.

I do care about player sprites, even in Single player, but I'm fine if Ion Maiden won't have them...since I think it would adding some of immersion...
