That would be a quick fading. I think we only had a handful of complete games (not counting all the current early access) and it seems most of them are good (can only judge Dusk and Project Warlock so far). Now, if everyone goes in the Doom / Quake direction like Dusk first and now Prodeus, Wrath, Hell Hunt, HellBound... it may end up boring people. But it could just evolve, like there is the current wave of super fast, movement based shooters, and the next one coming might be more like immersive sims. Personally I started mine in 2016, it's kind of a mix of duke, half life and immersive sim. Kinda like an action/arcade immersive sim. On facebook indie groups, I notice they usually don't give a damn about retro shooters, but recently a couple wolfenstein-likes got some good attention, but I guess most devs there are into pixel arts. Personally I doubt the future is in games similar to Gun Godz when we had Project Warlock, that would feel like a regression.
