I'd rather have a 144hz TN than a 60hz IPS honestly.

Edit: I'm tempted by the Asus VG248QE now. Some reviews claims it has better colours and reactivity than the AOC G2460Pqu, and it does 3D too. It's a little more expensive though.

I wanted one of those, but I heard the tearing got worse the more Hz the monitor had, and I hate tearing. I also don't see the need to run games at more than 60 fps.

The AOC price has inflated drastically since last you were here, so I suggest you get the asus, as getting the aoc now may cost you $350. Also screen tearing is only caused by the fps produced by the computer exceeding the monitors output, so the more Hz on the monitor , the less screen tearing actually, as you have a more viable monitor output to compensate. (I personally always use Vsync or Gsync if my monitor is capable to help eliminate tearing) I think what you were thinking of was more Hz produced by the computer , the more screen tearing...

The AOC is still 250€ (+shipping) on a French site, against 290/300€ for the Asus. I still haven't ordered anything but I'll probably go for the AOC indeed.

It's hard to tell what to choose. Depending on which review site I check, I don't get the same answers at all even on things which are supposed to be factual such as colour accuracy!

I went for the AOC G2460PQU. I've just recieved it and hooked it up. It's crazy good, I'm loving it.

I've been (re)playing Bioshock 1 and 2. It's absolutely amazing, super smooth and fast and beautiful.

I've tried more recent games too, but Wolfenstein TNO/TOB don't seem to be able to run above 60fps themselves; and actually if I set the native res of my screen (1920*1080) it even goes under at highest details when there is too much shit going on.... I have a quadcore 3,2ghz, 8gb of ram and a GTX 660 and it used to run perfectly on my old screen at 1680*1050 but it seems that I've hit the limit of what my computer can handle. Same for Shadow Warrior, I'd have to tune down details or resolution for it to be smooth at 1920*1080.

In other words I'm a little disappointed, I thought my computer could handle those games at max res on this new screen smoothly no problem. I wonder if buying more ram would make a difference...

Though this "issue" isn't due to the screen itself, and it's still miles ahead than my previous screen anyway. I can even feel the difference with Doom or DN3D.

Friend of mine bought an AOC from a supermarket of all places. Jesus wept! It only had 1 VGA connector on the back. That was the only connector apart from the power lead. If you looked at it at any angle off of a direct line to the screen, you couldn't see anything on it. Honestly the very worst display I've seen that wasn't on a 1980s laptop.

Like every electronics company there are low end models to high end. Some companies high end, isn't always so "high" and this is where research pays off. Sounds like Methy is happy with his choice and that's all that matters. As long as the purchase meets the expectations of the consumer, it's money well spent. According to Tom's Hardware the 2014 AOC G2460PQU is a smart choice and great buy compared to the 2015 AOC G2460PG which appears to have less options IMO.

One day I will need to make the leap from CRT to LED.

Oh yes, I'm loving the screen. Especially for games that can run well at 144fps, but not only.

As far as computers go, what you find in supermarkets is always terrible and / or overpriced, no matter the brand.

Maybe he means OLED... (which are actual led screens and are very expensive right now) an LG 55 inch 1080p is $2300 and a 4k 55 inch lg is $5500, compared to a standard (led backlit) lg 4k which is roughly 1200 dollars and a 1080 p (led backlit) which is around $650. Which may be why he's waited for so long as OLED screens (made out of LED) are still very expensive. ( I used lg as its easy to research and more reasonably priced then samsung)

OLED is a substantial improvement in quality, but maybe not longevity yet.
I have a couple of older/early Video Wristwatches with OLED screens which are noticeably better when compared to a couple of standard back-lit types. Battery consumption is much lower and color quality is the main visual increase, but speed is also very noticeable when side by side. Mine are not very high resolutions compared to current generation smart phones, but for their time, they are excellent. Of course the examples I have are all very small, around 1-1/2 inches (3.8cm) diagonally.

When the technology is worked out, owning a monitor or television of OLED is something I look forward to.

OLED is probably very new.
And has issues such as lifespan etc.

So maybe LED LCD you should try it and in the future OLED may improve and last longer etc.

I hope monitors don't get too much better. Its scary enough now seeing the whiskers, pores and pimples of some actors on the screen. :)
