Hey Joe, I still got a 3DR gift certificate you send me from a photo challenge (thanks for that, really nice sending it across the ocean, really cool).
Not going to use it (I like to keep it), just wondering if these would still be valid for the 'new' 3DRealms store.
Also wondering how you like your 'new' old job.

Also Hi Charlie, didn't see you there, are you still working at Certain Affinity doing Halo 2?
Btw. always wanted to say I liked your ROTT maps.

Actually, yes. We've talked about the old 3DR cam cap certificates, and the new 3DR says they'll honor them. We need to work out the details first, though. Thanks for the reminder, I'll ask them.

Howdy! Still here and just waiting for the 11th at this point. Looking forward to seeing what people do with the updated Forge. :)

I think you are the first person besides my roommate in college to ever mention those. Thanks! I actually gave up on Duke/Build level design at first because I was struggling so much to understand it and went back to ROTT for a while.

I've got your uploads of ROTT music playing in the background now.

The level editor for ROTT was great. After playing your maps for a long while me and my friend (still young at the time) tried to make maps ourselves, and we made lots of them.
Sadly after a LAN-party his hard drive broke with all the maps on it. We tried to redo them while we could still remember how they looked/worked but it was no use.
After that I always thought how the sequel would be like (Return of the Triad?).
Started to learn programming just to try to create some sequel myself, but turns out I needed to learn more than only C to program a playable 3D game.
Tried to get jobs a game companies also, but they only hire if you already had experience.
After those failed attempts I started experimenting with restyling ROTT music, did some Duke and Shadow Warrior songs also. Always loved the songs in ROTT, probably from spending so much time playing your levels.

Seeing the work done by the 'new' 3DRealms makes me happy, just like you guys are doing okay too.
Hopefully I have some time soon to play forge with my wife, she likes Halo.

I'm not sure I understand this. The FTP site is online. It does however, seem to NOT show up if you try to access ftp://ftp.3drealms.com through a web browser. Use an actual FTP client. I had no problems getting in, although make sure to turn OFF passive mode.

You're right, this does work in FireFTP (with Passive mode off as you also mention), but weirdly the /Stuff DIR I mentioned earlier is *not* there. Where'd that go?

On sale for a limited time and do I get to re-download the Anthology for free like GOG.com?

Hmm. That. And I would like to see GOG Duke Nukem 3D get updated with Duke it out in D.C., Duke Caribbean, and Nuclear Winter addons. Addons in a DOSBox enviroment instead of Megaton Edition. The GOG & Steam version of Shadow Warrior has Wanton Destruction & Twin Dragon. I don't want to sound like a broken record on that one.

One thing. I think the reason Balls of Steel isn't on the Anthology is that game is desinged for Windows only according to the supporting OSs on GOG.com.

Hmm. Why is Dark Ages not on the Anthology?

Those add-ons for Duke were not made by 3D Realms, they were released and sold by a third party. The Shadow Warrior add-ons you talk about, were also developed by a third party, but those third parties released them freely on the internet, so it was most likely easy to obtain the rights to include those for free.

About Dark Ages, since it was developed outside Apogee, like a lot of their games were, they would have to get permission to do so. Sometimes with those old small (sometimes single person) development teams, i would imagine it is hard to track down the owner 20+ years later. Or maybe the owner is still waiting to get that big game deal, and did not want to include his game in the anthology.

The free full version of Dark Ages was available from the 3DR website prior to its re-launch. While the game was not developed by Apogee directly, its authors are Todd Replogle, Allen H. Blum III and Keith Schuler, all of whom are definitely Apogee people.

Also the Dark Ages Freeware License says:

Quote

3) This game is released as freeware. That's not to be confused with public domain, abandonware (which is illegal), or releasing something under the GPL. This is a freeware release, which means we retain full legal rights to the title and it's materials. You are free to play the game as we've released it, but not free to "do whatever you want with it", which includes selling it or otherwise using the materials in other projects.

Which kind of suggests that Apogee/3DR still owns the game (or at least owned it at the time of freeware release in 2009).

I'm not sure if this is the right thread to bump but 3D Realms is bringing the Anthology to Steam with some games that didn't make the first cut:

SteamDB entry: https://steamdb.info/sub/61948/apps/

Edit: Some things judging from the SteamDB entries:
Blake Stone and Rise of the Triad are separate entries from The Apogee Throwback Pack
Duke Nukem 3D is not the Megaton Edition
Raptor is not the "2015" edition on Steam
Shadow Warrior (Classic) is not "Shadow Warrior Classic (1997)" on Steam

There's a bit too much an overkill with the glare on the art, but I will definitely be grabbing this.

Interesting. I didn't realize the 3DR release of Duke Nukem 3D includes all of the expansions including Duke!ZONE 2. They should make that clear somewhere.

I was asked to package the expansions for it a few days ago, and Duke!ZONE II was requested by name.

(I hope you like my choice of colors.)

I also figured out how to launch ROTT: The HUNT Begins and Extreme ROTT without going through SETUP.EXE and sent them a patch while I was at it.

For some reason, I always saw DC be blue and Nuclear Winter be icy cold. A summer breeze color fits Duke Caribbean too.

But I digress... Love the launchers!

Atomic, Caribbean, and Nuclear Winter match the dominant color of their box art.

I thought about the colors also... :)
I would have had to weigh the ideas of Physical Box Color with relative meaning or them. Caribbean, while primarily lighter blue, I relate to brightness, or other colors that might represent the tropical warm/bright nature of the game. I like how the Duke Title font color fades from orange-ish red to yellow... very appropriate.
Nuclear Winter, of course mostly colder/darker, but daytime areas of actual gameplay could be super-bright.
Duke it out in D.C. I relate mostly to the patriotic colors and sense of patriotic boldness, though I am not certain how I might try to translate that to colors with only text.
Duke Nukem 3D, Red or Reds is the right colors for that in my opinion. The Box, the Booklet etc are so red dominated... plus the "harshness" of "atomic" blast etc.

Glad you did think about it... too many people don't even have "reasons" why they do so many things. (just a general statement about people in life)

I might do it like this...

1. Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic Edition
2. Duke It Out in D.C.
3. Duke Caribbean: Life's a Beach
4. Duke: Nuclear Winter
5. Duke!Zone II

6. Setup Utility
7. Exit

Anyway... but I could burn up a LOT of time playing with it, within the limitations of textual representation. :(

Small bump, just noticed that the games in the anthology can be purchased separately now except for the freeware releases http://store.steampo....com/sub/61948/

The 3D Realms Anthology is now 75% off but I noticed something strange:

In this video it says that the package is being removed by the end of the year...?

I got a gut feeling that the Duke Nukem games are gonna be removed from Steam, GOG.com and the 3d Realms Store on New Years Day 2016. Not to mention the Duke Nukem 3D ports on Xbox 360, PS3 and PS Vita available. Good thing I purchased the 3D Realms Anthology immediately after I noticed the warning.

Hate to see Duke go. :-(
