Where is this press release you speak of? The dukeisback website was updated but this definitely is not a press release.

There was an apogee press release that came today - it was promised last week stating it would have Duke-related news. It did, just not DNF.

His reputation can be repaired if he releases the game one way or the other.
If he releases the game finished then he will regain lots of reputation back but he will have people hate him for pulling a marketing stunt like this.
If he will release stuff half finished for free he will regain a bit of his reputation back.
If he will announce that duke is dead and he will not release anything people will hate him + he will loose even more reputation.
And if he doesn't release anything not even a statement then he will loose so much reputation and make so many people angry that even attempts at ending his life might be tried.

Hey now, there's no need to go overboard.

"We are opening the floodgates on the search for the next live-action Duke Nukem. Before we were reaching out to the fans with a three-city nationwide search, but due to the high demand we have chosen to expand our search to allow every Duke fan a chance to submit their entry, said Chad McNeil, marketing manager for Deep Silver, Inc. "We want to see your best Duke Nukem, so get ready to kick ass and chew some bubblegum because this is going to be one of the craziest promotions the videogame industry has seen for a long time!"

For those who cannot upload their auditions online, but still wish to participate in the Search for Duke will be allowed to submit their entries by mail on a DVD, VHS tape or video file on USB drive (not returnable) or burned to a CD-R.

Deep Silver and Apogee are calling on all Duke fans to step up and compete to be The Next Duke Nukem. If you think that you have what it takes, or know someone who does, head on over to www.dukeisback.com for more information, as well as contest rules.

The Duke Nukem Trilogy is comprised of three episodes: Critical Mass?, Chain Reaction?, and Proving Grounds?, and will be released sequentially beginning in 2009 for Nintendo DS? and PSP? (PlayStation?Portable) system. More information is available at Apogee's recently relaunched site, www.apogeesoftware.com

This is the duke nukem press release apogee promised for this week.

I've had to clean up a mess by two of you. Don't make me pull over to the side of the road.

Dude seriously. You're going overboard and sadly there are a lot of nutjobs out there *cough* enigmahood *cough* who could be capable of some fucked up shit. Don't make yourself prime suspect.

I can't see them making a duke nukem movie unless DNF is coming. I'm a little more hopeful, even if they didn't announce anything DNF related.

Stuff like this just goes to show that this board has some way to go to become a valid alternative to the 3DR forums.

Have you seen the actual 3D-Realms forum with this similar topic?? hahaha its no better and I'd say the 3D-Realms one is even worse, its gotten so bad that Nacho had to lock it till a significant event or news piece happened.

But really, until there's a press release, what else is there to comment on?

You could say that, but you wouldn't want to tell a lie, now would you?

I think this board could use a more strict form of moderation.

Exactly but talking about it I guess helps relieve the pain and pass the time till eventually something comes up. Eventually I'm sure this topic will die down as there will be nothing left to discuss.....or the speculations will get wilder and wilder to the point where they are not even worth replying back to.

Up until now I've only been getting back into the idea that I'm an Admin here after taking a hiatus for about a year. I know it's a bit late, but I'm rolling up my sleeves now.

What do you propose the guidelines for strict should be? Perhaps a few examples?

My proposition is that any flames I have to put out are going to result in an increased warning level for a first offense. Any offense after that is going to result in a 24 hour post moderation flag on that user and another increase in warning level.

What about warnings for double-posts? ;)

** Darn, you removed it before I repied.

I don't know - I don't see much wrong with the speculation at 3DR. It makes the forum busy, and that's not all bad.

This will have nothing to do with a healthy argument so long as it doesn't include bashing of other members and threats correct?

What about ranting to join the bandwagon of other rants because we have nothing better to do while sitting at our desks at work? ;)

Well, for one thing there's currently a bit of an "anything goes" vibe going on here that results in the sort of posts you're seeing a bit further up the page.
I'm all for open discussions, but kindergarten style curse fests are unnecessary, annoying and counterproductive.

There are some smaller items, such as disallowing all-caps user names and thread titles, but mainly it's about keeping the conversation civil and adult.
Duke4.net doesn't have the excuse which that particular thread in the 3DR forum had (being overrun by immature newcomers), so I think it should be easier to crack down on those that spoil the party without cancelling the festivities altogether.

Well I dont think no matter where you go that many conversations will always be civil or adult. You tolerate them so long as they do not get out of control. If somebody says something that you do not like you simply do not reply to them or encourage them to continue on or pestering. If you do not like it simply report them to an admin as its ultimately their job to be the peace keepers of the forums. Just my opinion anyway.

There was another developer where his resume read that he helped put DNF on retail shelves, so all very contradicting info at this point.

Uhhhh, no. It's pretty clear that the developer you speak of wrote about "putting DNF on shelves" BEFORE all of this happened, while the project was still alive.

And about the other guy who posted that the game had been canceled on May 8th?? I'll take his word over any rumor. What reason would he have to lie?

Now people can't say anymore "but the game hasn't been officially canceled yet!!!"

Well, now it HAS. Cold, hard proof. Straight from(one of) the horses' mouth(s).

If anyone still wants to continue with this whole ludicrous "there is still hope" campaign.....well, it's your choice but at this point the overwhelming majority of evidence is against you- to say the very least.

Well it could be that the employee thought the game was canceled at the time of writing that you know.
They should still put out something official, "It's dead now guys" will do nicely.

Some earlier posts in here were pretty disturbing... Please don't talk about potentional threats or such about GB or anything like that, i don't care in what way it was meant to be interpreted as, any such talk doesn't belong on Duke4.net and shouldn't ever be mentioned anywhere in the first place...

Please don't make us lock/nuke this thread just because you have to mention extreme things like that...
Sorry for being the serious administrator-asshat for once, but you guys should know better -- that talk like that only stirs up unwanted ideas into the heads of people and unwanted discussions...

Yeah, please carry on the discussion about 3DR shutting down...

On a quick side note, I was re-watching the leaked footage to determine (by the on-screen movements) if the footage was being displayed via PC or console (i.e. 360, PS3). By most of the on-screen movements, it seemed that some sort of joystick/thumbstick was being used (unless it was simply just keyboard arrow key style movements).. but once it got to one of the 'boss' scenes, it said on screen "..Press E.." and then almost immediately after, "...SPC.." ... assuming SPC is short for SPACE. Sorry if this has already been covered, just an observation I made.

So it seems, but all these events and speculation still make for great conversation including the hope that DNF still will make it out somehow.

The forums are closed due to a temporary search index rebuild. They will return later today when this reindex is complete.

WTF? THAT was the press release? Why isn't it mentioned in the latest headlines in the Apogee site?
