3D Realms Shutting Down

The news on every site mention DNF. That's the main news. Not some chaps losing their jobs(which happens every day).

Uhh, the news I've been reading everywhere is that 3DRealms has been closed, and the employees don't work there anymore.

That's the news.

The secondary issue they talk about is the fate of DNF.

I meant that I haven't talked with Joe much to care about him. It's not barbanic to care about the game more than about something else. Because I don't really care about the game itself as a, ahem, being. I care about it in a way that I want to play.

That's egoistic basically. I want to play it, thus I care. I don't care about Joe because he's nothing to me. Of course I want him well, but when I saw the news about 3dr's problems my first thoughts was about DNF.

Oh, and you knew DNF more did you? And interacted with it? You probably know as much about DNF as you do about Joe.

Besides that, the bottom line is it's pretty barbaric to care about a game more than a human being...even if you don't know him. But whatever, guys. Keep your opinions. I won't argue.

People were really hyped about the Dark Knight and that took 3 years to make. Then heath Ledger died which by anyones standards is a far greater tradegy than losing your job. Imagine if they had canned the film out of respect. Do you honestly think that everyone would have understood that decision and not cared about seeing the film?

People are invested in Duke, in 3DR as a company, what they stood for, what they created, what they promised. They are not invested in every employees personal lives. Some things are much bigger than the individuals involved and the loyalty and support that the fans have shown them all this time gets a cursory fuck you when someone dares to be upset about the game itself.

It's starting to appear it sums up 3DR's mentality. Fuck you we're 3DR! Not anymore.

I feel like everyone in the world misread and/or did not read 90% of what I wrote. let me say this: PLENTY OF PEOPLE IN AMERICA HAVE BEEN LAID OFF, HAVE LOST THEIR JOBS, HAVE LOST THEIR SOURCE OF INCOME AND HAVE FAMILIES TO FEED MORTGAGES TO PAY (HELL MAYBE SOME OF THEM HAVE A BABY ON THE WAY TOO) THIS ECONOMY ISN'T BEING NICE TO ANYONE. HE SHOULDN'T PITY HIMSELF LIKE HE IS THE ONLY ONE.

BTW im not yelling I just wanted that part of my post to be heard and seen. I don't hate Joe. Hell I feel pretty God damn bad for him. BUT having said that, he has shown the same attitude towards fans before he lost his job aka when 3d Realms was still "doing well."

Screw you man. Joe was a flipping blessing to the 3DR fanbase. Not only was he an excellent moderator, he's a nice guy. He did little things for the community here and there mods on other forums wouldn't even bother doing.

And before you pull this miss America "it happens to a lot of people" bullshit, I'd imagine you have a source of income. you have a roof over your head. You have meals. Joe now has to find a way to FEED HIS FAMILY. KEEP HIS HOUSE. And you use the excuse that because it happens to others, Joe shouldn't be worried? This isn't a game. the 3DR staff and their families are many times more important than the Duke Nukem IP will ever be. It's easy to criticize someone when you're on the outside looking in. Give him a fucking break.

Seriously, the apathy of some of you guys is sickening.

At least some guys aren't hypocrites.

If you care that much about Joe then make a donation. He's more than willing to accept those.

To be fair, it does happen to a lot of people in this field we're in. The average length of time in a job at a software house is 2 years.

But yeah, people need to understand that good people lost jobs, and because of poor management, there likely won't be a lot on their resumes to get them into new jobs.

Everyone coder coming out of that company will have to start over, from scratch, at a new company. Entry level jobs. That's gonna suck. If they had more projects completed, they might be able to move into senior or staffs.

Alot of people that have left 3D Realms have gotten good, senior level jobs soon after that. For instance all the peopel that went to Gearbox.

Joe's a good guy. A bit moody at times, but I always got along with him well enough.

Wasn't that discussed on 3DR few times? You might find Joe or George commenting on that, iirc they said that he just quit the scene but is alive and well.

I'm not saying that he's not. I just don't know him.

Either way, we need this stupid press release ASAP.

This is such a shame. From looking at the screens posted it was going to look amazing.

My best wishes to those who lost thier jobs. Sadly, this isn't the first time that a bunch of game creators wound up out on the street with no notice. The industry in general is very volatile.

I thought I couldn't feel any worse about the situation. And then I saw those AWESOME screenshots. It really didn't hit home until then exactly what we were losing...

I'm sure he's alright.

Besides, he was crazy to begin with. Or he was just a troll.

No, he couldn't be a troll. He was by far the most enthusiastic even when things weren't looking too good.

I just hope he doesn't take it too hard and try something stupid.

Stupid? How could he possibly do something stupid?!?!!

If someone offs themselves because of a video game, I think that is evolution doing its part.

Well... I'm not going to do it because of the game, but DNF was one of the reasons not to do it. Now one reason is gone. Though, it would also be gone if DNF was released.

No. If the game was released and I played it, the wait would have been over.

P.S. Hell, those stupid tenses. I'm gonna get sick trying to figure where goes would or if or something.
